- Yeah, 1667 feels longer and longer every year! The first year I did nano I could crank that out in like 45minutes, now it's like... I've been writing for an hour and have maaaaaaybe 500 words OTL

We started today, and they all did so well. I only set their goal at 3,000. The really nice part is that in the 20 min I'm giving them to write in class, I was able to write 500 words, so it's a nice sneaky way of being able to write while I'm at work lol.

How's your first day going?

- It... hasn't yet! lol. Off to a great start! Got a migraine driving home form work, waiting for this advil to kick in, it's been almost an hour! Ugh.

Maybe that means we're better writers now?? 😅 I'm sorry to hear you had a migraine! That's the worst for trying to write

- I hope so! lol. This year is going pretty slow, cus I'm blocking this into a script for for turning it into comic pages, which means I have to visualize about what I want the pages to look like at the same time, and it's hard!

My user is Starfire2530, add me if you like! I got about words on the first day but my kiddos have come down with the flu so its been hard to get any writing down. Well, I have been writing in my notebook but not a whole lot. That's a great a idea to set myself a treat reward! Maybe that will motivate me more. I know in two weeks a month ago I was able to put out 10k words but I haven't been able to since. xP

Yesterday was a day off, so I managed to get back on track. Wanted to get ahead, but only managed to get ahead by about 300 words OTL.

Getting my spinal epidural today for my back, so I took the afternoon after that off just in case my legs get wobbly again like they did one of the other times, so should have some nice writing time this afternoon too. Have a trip to Disneyland planned for mid-month, so I want to try and get a good head start!

I gave up trying to visualize individual pages, that was taking too long, so for now I'm just writing dialogue and key actions, and some of the visuals when they come to me, or if I have a clear vision of what I want something to look like. I can hopefully edit in the individual pages and panels later.

That does sound very intensive! You're doing two whole jobs instead of just one then! Also, I hope everything is going okay for you health wise!

Now it's my turn with the migraine, but I'm determined to stay on task ha haha

Thanks! I'll look for it! I've been in bed most of the day with the flu...so much for that flu shot xP so I haven't gotten any writing done today yet. I had to struggle out of bed to finish an assignment and fix a meal for the kiddos lol Oh wow! Get some rest so you aren't so wobbly, and have a great time on your trip! That sounds awesome!

- Oh no! I'm sorry you got my migraine! And I gave up on the second task, pretty much just writing straight dialogue and a few key actions now! haha. Going much faster.

- Aww, I'm sorry, that sucks :( Hopefully the flu shot means you won't be laid up for days and will be back on your feet tomorrow! It always seems to be during Nano that these things hit us!

Its my own fault, I didn't eat or drink enough this morning before my tattoo appointment. I should know better by now! 😅 That's good to hear! Last year I tried to draft what would eventually be a multi-media choose your own adventure & I got so overwhelmed by the scale of the project and trying to make sure I would be able to fit everything with images and sound that I gave up rather quickly. I wish I'd had your sense to scale back a bit!

- Well I spent the last two years of nano writing out a very detailed out line for my story, starting with the 3 main overarching plots, then the story beats for each one, then chapter by chapter events, then finally expanding each chapter to each character's individual actions... the outline is 85k words. I'm really glad that, after 3 attempts at a first draft without an outline, that I decided to break it down like that! Choose-your-own adventure would probably much benefit from that too! Scaling it back this year to dialogue, and maybe I can get a chance after nano to go back and add the page/panel details. Nothing is set in stone yet, and won't be until I gain the artistic confidence to actually draw it.... which still feels years away OTL. I have some smaller writing projects I'm going to try to turn into short comics first for some practice and to get a feel for the tools.

Right?! I was super excited to get it started, I even picked out a pretty cover for this book lol

- Oooo cover art! Nice! According to nanowrimo statistics, people who chose cover art are more likely to complete their novel :D

Still on track, but ugh, I was hoping to be able to get ahead prior to my upcoming trip :( 6 days of probably not getting any writing done. I don't want to bring my laptop on the plane. I guess I can type on my phone, but what a pain! lol

85k for the outline is insane!!! Now I'm thinking maybe my outlines aren't detailed enough hahaha You sound incredibly organized! I fell behind over the last weekend bc I was out of town. I'm back 2 days now, but I'm catching up! I hope you can get some words down so you don't get too far behind on your trip! Also, where are you going??

- Lol, yeah, it is a bit! haha, but it has actually been quite helpful keeping the story running smoothly so far! I think your outline can be as detailed, or as loose as you want, but since this is a huge project, I wanted it to be more well constructed. I worked backwards; I started with the main idea, broke that down into 3 main sub-plots, then each of those I broke down into about a dozen key events, then I broke each of those key events into 5-10 chapters, then I wrote each chapter in bullet form. And now I'm fully writing out the chapters (sort of, mostly just writing the dialogue and key visuals/actions)! I'm going to Disneyland! I have been to Disneyworld somewhat recently, but I haven't been to Disneyland in a long time! I've got friday off before my trip for remembrance day, and the plane ride maybe I can work on it a bit on my phone. If the phone thing works... maaaaaaybe I can throw some words in while waiting in lines. Hopefully won't have to do that too much though, because I got a disability pass since I have to lay down and do yoga every 20 minutes to keep my back happy and my leg from falling asleep. (it was a fight to get it though >( cus they were like you can get a return pass for some rides, and the rest are wheelchair accessible, which like.... sitting (on a chair or scooter or bench whatever) makes it 10x worse, kthx. )

I've never actually taken part in NaNo before, a friend of mine suggested I take part... I had a loose idea for a few of my oldest characters and managed to smash my 50k word limit in less than a week 😂 with the help of one of my writing buddies, I'm still working on it... But I'm so excited <3 I've just started prepping another story idea - I'd love to turn this into an actual novel, so I'm going to see how well I can do between now and the end of the month :)
