Learning some of the history is a lot of fun, and also maddening.
Very, very much so. With these we learn how a lot of the photographers works are lost in time, many of which never seeing the light of day, because of police raids destroying the work. Since queerness was illegal they could just raid and destroy (or make up some bullshit to make it "reasonable" after the first few times).
that's happened a lot to anyone who wasn't "in power" and those in power decide aren't living up to whatever ideals they have chosen to believe in. Some people who faught so hard against others way of life I always thought perhaps leant to that way and didn't wish to voice it for fear of rebuke
I just wanna get a squirt bottle and squirt people with it while yelling at them to stop being bad. ... Or punch them, whatever.

I feel like really it should be halloween after the 4th. But then I'd miss out on the day off for labor day :P
I'm still on the hunt for some really good vintage pin up references, and so going through blogs dedicated to them and it can be a little wild. Posts usually list the models name (or as "unknown model") but sometimes post little things about the shoot or model; like they like to wrestle, they're a marine, they were a hustler (code for male sex worker; and not shocking a fair few of the models were sex workers; and a hefty amount were navy/marine/arm/etc men but I digress), etc. Some are more juicy like "this model was nicknamed Mr. PITA, for being a massive Pain In The Ass" and "this models wife liked to be on set during wrestling shoots" But then one just slaps you. Like the post about Paul Ferguson, who was noted to be a hustler... That shortly went on to meet the very famous Ramon Novarro in 1968 and after being his "late night guest" for half a dozen weeks, decided to rob, torture, and murder him and tried to pin it on his 17 year old brother (who tagged along that singular night but wasn't involved with the sexual aspect), got life in prison, only served 7 years, got out, raped a woman, got on parole, raped another woman, got sent to prison and died there in 2018. I learned this all because while scrolling I happened to note 'wow, he's a bit dashing but needs to stop doing the I'm Sensitive Furrowed Brows douchebag look'
