I'm happy about the changes and still pleased with how hard I worked years ago to get the names that were unique at the time. I like not being shamed for having names that I hadn't gotten around to doing profiles for and I like that people won't be asking me for my pets anymore. That being said, legacy names are still important to me, so if legacy LotR names come up for adoption, I'll still be watching for them. Just no more trying to sneak to the bathroom in the middle of a meeting to refresh an adoption screen when a name cleared. Love that, too.

I'm with Necolasa. At the very least, they should continue to legacy out the first time usage of a name. Open naming takes away any effort or satisfaction (since I don't care about low IDs).

Ugh, please. Finding open fitting words was my favourite part of the process and I always felt so proud when I found the perfect one. Why can we not still have legacy names for pets that don't currently have a dupe in the system when created?

This is actually a good idea I think. You should suggest it in the suggestion forums. c: I think having a perfect name for your pet is nice, and I still will probably look for unique names that no one has. lol.

This has been suggested by the way see A Wish(tm) RE: Legacy names In previous feedback boards the answer was no. I will try to find the quote.

I'm pretty new to Subeta, but I've managed to find a couple legacy names in the Adoption Center. They're a special little treat on those pets (Lec and Saqqara), something that makes those two special, but I don't find them a necessary thing. I suppose I might have stronger feelings about the matter if I'd been around sooner?

I don't know, I'm just glad I can name a pet whatever I'd like without having to get 'creative' with real words or obscure names. It made it a lot easier to make my pets what I want them to be.

They're kinda cool. I have a ton of legacy name pets and some of them will just get it hidden on their profiles, I love having the original Aariston, for example, but he's got a made up and not very desirable name, so seeing it twice doesn't do a lot for me. I have a couple pets I was thinking of adopting out or name changing and now I'm wondering how I might rename them so their legacy name is part of their story. I don't have any aversion to pets with no legacy name, I have a couple slots open now and if I don't see any legacy name pets UFA that fit the names I want, I'll make new pets for them.

Really excited to finally make Planchette! I've wanted that name for years and I am really excited for it. Do not care if she doesn't have Planchette as a legacy name, she's a character I've wanted on here for ages.

My biggest disappointment is just in myself and how the whole thing played out. I'd adopted out a couple of my OG 2006 pets years and years and years ago, and in like, idk 2017 I found one of them in the pound and grabbed him again. He had his same name but I still didn't know what to do with it, so I ended up changing it in 2019. I would have loved to have his original name be listed as his legacy name before I changed it, but I couldn't have known this change was coming. But it fits with his character, which is a son bitter at his parent for abandoning him, lmao. "Everything is a disappointment to you, mom!!" Sorry buddy, that one was my fault. xD

I think the new naming system with legacy names still preserved was the best approach they could have taken. It was a great way to balance more naming freedom with the effort involved in getting/attachment to the unique names. It's a shame you can't create new "legacy" name pets, but I'm not sure how they would have done that... a nickname system maybe? Non-unique naming means we won't run out of actual names to give pets, and that people can have whatever names they want, which is all good in my book.

(Slightly off topic, I just adopted an Experiment named Cinder, and their legacy name is NonbinaryCinderella, which was a delightful surprise bonus.)

i would like to offer an argument for a feature on pets that were stolen from "inactive" users.

how about a badge displaying the username of the original owner? my legacy pet, Goodnight, was stolen from me and even though this happened some years ago i am still bitter about it. obviously, legacy names mean a lot to users of this site - even ones who no longer frequently play and only occasionally log in to check in and relive fond memories.

i do not believe it is fair for this user to masquerade under the false pretense they were the first one to own "Goodnight" when in fact that was ME. a legacy pet from 2008 mind you. i created her when i was a child just beginning my journey on Subeta. this is like having a memory stolen from me. i would like to be recognized as being her original owner.

the pet once named Goodnight, renamed to Kanis[numberchain], is now named Martyr on my profile. you can check Martyr's profile for evidence of her birth legacy. i have the comment text evidence that this user stole the name from me, but that is not enough. i want everyone to know that this user stole their legacy pet name from ME through a cruel action somehow deemed legal by mods. i find this a gross act of injustice against me. if a user wishes to steal a pet name, then let the original owner be forever honored on that pet's profile.
