Intended to make a scarecrow, but then this happened.
If a business has been treating their employees right (including good communications), the employees and employer band together to get through the crisis. But if there were problems before the crisis, things just keep getting worse. Its nearly impossible to fix pre-existing problems during a crisis.

Yeah I'd have to agree. There's been coordination/org issues for ages and I think things are slow to change in part because they've been that way for so long, and there was a lot of conflict because of it. It's tough that the push for improvement comes at such a poor time when people are less likely to cooperate. The people who were cooperating before are holding together, but where there was conflict before, there's still conflict. The bosses aren't really in the best position to address that directly to be honest, and it's going to be slow to change, since any new organization will be slow to take amid the high tensions. There's not a ton I can do, but I've at least been trying to keep tempers cooler in general when I can, just checking in and coordinating with folks so they don't just feel like they're being treated like machines. When they first brought up the potential for financial cutbacks and people not getting raises this year and stuff, they were also saying that they were thinking of also starting to charge for (or just remove) the lunch room free coffee. I was just like @ DEAR GOD NO. Coffee ain't my thing, but I know people need their coffee when they're used to having it and taking away one more thing like that on top of the pre-existing problems would have been suicide. One does not simply take away the coffee during a crisis and expect things to go well afterwards, unless your plan is to inspire someone to set fire to the offices. I went to my boss and flat out told him that I'd pay for it out of pocket if we needed to cut the budget. I've been stocking the breakroom with candy out the wazoo since the Kurzarbeit started just to try to give people something to keep them in a better mood. You can always tell when it's been a worse week because they go through the chocolate in particular faster.
nickel and diming is the worst! It seems petty in some ways, but providing free coffee is a huge boost to morale at very little cost to the company. There are way better ways to save money. You're star for providing treats too!
