AFAIK there isn't an official hanzi transliteration (that I could find), but gui and guo are (turtle) and (country), respectively. I'm not sure which shen it is, but I've been assuming it was (spirit/god).

Oooh yeahh, makes sense. I'm one of those second generation Chinese kids who are really bad at Chinese, haha.
“spirit and demon country"

OP just needs a Chinese hug.

Please remember that we do not allow foreign languages on the forums including text that is on images. I get why you all are posting the characters, but unfortunately it is not allowed.

The subetapedia states 'According to legend, the land itself is carried on the back of an enormous chelon, which is reflected in the country's name', so it should be the character for turtle! And spirit for shen should be correct as well, since they're mentioned a lot in the same entry.
And man, it's kinda frustrating that y'all have a country named in a foreign language but I can't type out its name in the language its from. I get the moderation thing, but man.

Foreign language that is literally the name of a Subeta country has to be an exception to the rule. We need to be able to discuss Subeta countries by name.
It's unfair to allow transliteration of the word and not characters. They are equally "foreign language."
Please reconsider how this rule should be applied, since this conversation is impossible without using "Guo" or other words that aren't English.
I am just pointing out the rule to be helpful. I am not able to change any rules.

I agree with this.
And shame on the users who immediately tried to poopoo any sort of conversation, 2020 is the year where we realize fiction does not exist in a bubble. If Chinese people and native Chinese speakers have an opinion, it is worth hearing out what they have to say. (Edit to add: upon further reading OP has some opinions that I do not endorse and I understand the situation is more complex than i initially assumed)
Also this rule? Is weird. And weird is the lighter way I would put my opinion. "Subeta's forums, shoutbox, news comments, and profile comments are restricted to English only. This is not to inconvenience our international players, but to ensure that the site remains safe and appropriate at all times." is it just because the only moderators are english speaking?
Ah, I did not see the entry. Thanks for that. It seems strange to name the country after an animal. Most names are places: "north capital", "western place of peace", "place upon the sea", "the land at the centre of all things" or descriptors: "peace and comfort" or "quiet summer".
I agree with your curiosity. I wonder why the rule is still in place. With the advent of machine translation and increased multilingualism, surely it would not be that difficult to understand other languages? I assume that one has either access to a computer or phone with working internet to access this site, surely it would be possible to copy-paste into a translator?
I received a 'verbal warning notice' for writing two lines of characters, all of which have no unsafe or inappropriate connotations. I was surprised.
If I may ask, do you have any idea of why the rule exists, or is still existing?

Google Chrome has a built in translator and there's an extension for it for Firefox. I think Edge also has a translator. People are no longer restricted to reading articles and news stories in their own language.
RE: foreign language rule.
From what I understand mods are volunteers. They are all US based (for reasons). I don't know how much time they commit to their unpaid job, but would assume they only have limited time to actually moderate.
While the occasional phrase in another language is easily translated, it requires extra time and effort to do so. Additionally, google translate and other programs will not be able to catch nuance and deliberate obfuscation in another language. Mods need to be able to see, at a glance, if something requires more attention. The more foreign words/phrases they encounter the harder and more time consuming it becomes.
That said, I agree that the rule with respect to this topic in particular, the use of a foreign phrase by Subeta itself needs to be relaxed.

I’m just really disappointed people are getting warnings for defending against xenophobic posts that staff are ignoring when THAT should be the posts given warnings
This is the second reminder to please stay on topic.
If you disagree with the foreign language rule and want to see changes made to this rule, please post this on the Site Feedback forum.
