hmm, i mainly spend my time on here restocking, so this will definitely impact me. so of course i have concerns.
i don't think i like the restocking certain shops on certain days. i like how it feels more random as it is now. that there could always be something worth it in any of the shops. but i don't have a precedent for it, so maybe it won't be so bad.
and with everything being changed, it makes me wonder about the things we currently have in our shops. are a bunch of things i bothered to stock suddenly going to be near worthless? are some going to suddenly be worth more and i'll lose money if i leave them? i know shop prices aren't going to change instantly but still. makes me feel like i should put my shop on hold until i see... or something.
with the example image, i'm assuming the 100 item limit is just placeholder? i almost feel stupid for asking, because surely it is? because having access to 100 of an item would make you never need to buy it elsewhere. and when would these limits reset? every day? every day the shop restocks? every week? the limit is just really confusing to me, in general. i guess the limit is just to make sure no one hoards all of an item?
and this isn't a concern, just a wish. but will the items above r99 have their numbers changed? what i mean is, can we do away with the pointless gap in rarities for them? like there aren't, say, r103 items, but there are r150! will these get condensed down as well? like r7-r10 or whatever?
at the end of the day i'll admit i know nothing about economics. i just buy the items that sell for a certain amount more than i buy them. and i guess that's part of the problem? either way i'm sure you guys know better than me so i'm hopeful. it's exciting to see so much renewed effort and interest in the site!
I don't know how this is all going to work out, but I'm pretty sure the 100 items you mention isn't a limit. I think it means there will only be around 100 items in the R5: Legendary category. As to the higher numbered rarities, they really don't reflect rarity, but rather a way of categorizing Game Prizes, Holiday Items, etc. It wouldn't serve much purpose to change them.

oh, yes, i know those rarities are just forms of categorization. i just don't understand why there are such random gaps in the rarity numbers? it's true there wouldn't be any real reason to change them, it's just something i thought was weird and didn't have a reason to be that way either. the only reason i really care is when i'm trying to find these non-restockable items in my shop, but i don't have every rarity point memorized. if they were consecutive numbers it would make it easier, lol. i'm not good at explaining things! u_u
I used to keep a little list of the rarities for searching my shop, but then realized each rarity I put in stayed in the drop down box, so now I can use those. I know 160 and 175 are game prizes and Holiday items, but can never remember which is which, so alphabetical wouldn't help me at all. LOL As to how the rarities will be determined, I'm not sure anybody really has a clue. I can't imagine them going through every set and setting them to the same rarity, and while they could, my best guess is that super rares and rares will become R4, normals will become R3, and Common will be R2 and really common and mundane will be R1 and there will be 100 or items that will be R5. This is what I am hoping because I have a lot of stuff in vault categorized that way and I really don't want to have to redo the whole thing. :P The killer for me will be if we are forced to restock certain shops on certain days. I'm a restocker and that just wouldn't work for me. It all remains to be seen, so I guess we will just have to wait and see.

A little stray of topic but related. It would be great to see item hunt get a revamp and maybe a genetech bandaid included to get rid of some of all these swashbuckles.
I've been worried that achieves for rarity might go away with this update so I've started seeking those items, specifically for the Foodie achievement, and it doesn't look like the progress I made has updated. Are the Foodie and High Rarity Grabber achievements already retired?
neither of those are retired. There have been errors on achievements where they don't update, but when you hit the tier for the achievement, you still get the new achievement. There are also errors in cache, where it doesn't update right away, but if you check several hours later, it has updated. Then, of course, there are also errors where it isn't updating at all.
I did check the bug reports and saw nothing relevant. If you give it a couple of hours and check again and it hasn't updated, I suggest a bug report or sending in a ticket to ask.

i look forward to the new rarity makeover it sounds really good with the new rarity system
Are you sure about your answer? It sounds to me to mean that, if an item is R5, there will be at most 100 instances of it on the site.

I hope that 100 instances means in existence/circulation at a time, not ever created. It'd be sad if some pretty wearable got given up to Item Hunt and slowly stopped existing entirely.

Is this still happening? I just re-read the original post and it definitely made it seem like this was supposed to happen in 2020 but it still hasn't.
An update on this would be loverly. Restocking is one of my absolute favorite things to do on this site, but the 6 minute system happening now makes it boring, and also WAAAAAY less profitable.
Agree... if the rarity squish isn't happening yet can we at least have RSing fixed..
If this was true it'd be so much worse. It'd be the whole unique names thing again but with items (as in, you have the item someone else wants, they're going to nag you until you give it up or vague about it somewhere). CWs are on thin ice, but moving this system to common restockables?
And like others have said...updates on this?

From the way Keith worded that, I was under the impression that, let’s say there’s 10,000 restockable items on Subeta,
3,000 items will now be r1’s (the currently designated mundane) 4,000 items will be r2 (currently really common items) 2,000 items will be r3 (currently normal and possibly some lower numbered rares ) 900 items will be r4 (current higher number value rares and super rares) 100 items will be r5 (my guess would be a selection of current r99’s like potions and stat boosters, etc)
Like only 100 items will have a r5 designation, not that only 100 copies of r5 items will exist, if that makes sense.
But I could be totally off base as I seem to be the only person on this thread who interpreted it that way?
So it can be nearly impossible to obtain 1 purple shoe when the blue version costs next to nothing? I understand the need for this, bit I feel 100 items for a restockable item is too few.
In the original post said that's not how the new system is going to work
I imagine the r5 items are only going to be single items, not items that fit into sets.
I wonder if they're going to make etc. all R5? I've bought a couple copies of each just in case XD
Did say that R1, R2 etc items are restockable ones? I was assuming that like R5 tier would be like.. those super rare items from super hard battle challengers. It is a "rarity squish" so I can foresee a bunch of previously separated stuff being squished together.
I do think maybe we need different classifications (unsure if this has been discussed) for items obtained in different ways. Like maybe R1, 2, 3 etc for restockables and and a C classification (e.g. C1, 2 , 3????) for Cash Shop (i.e. unrestockable?). Idk if this would kind of just counter the idea of a rarity "squish" but it would make things less confusing for users.
