It is freezing cold here, we have snow and ice and temperatures are -15°C which is 5 Fahrenheit.
Besides our spoiled indoor and fenced terrace/garden kitties, there is a black and white European Shorthair male cat roaming our garden, a stray. He doesn't like to be indoors and has developed a real thick fur in the last weeks yet I am very worried about him, he feels so cold and I see him trembling now and then.
Yesterday was a very sunny day and he slept for hours in the sun, content, today it is very cloudy.
Naturally, I prepare his meals with care, warm water and pouring some hot one over his wet food and he has dry food all the time which I change regularly so it isn't too cold.
I am very angry with myself that I didn't see this weather change coming, the last winters were very mild.
I should have prepared better for him.
Mickey, how we call him, is sleeping under our covered sunbed, similar to this one:
It is covered with a thick yet air-permeable cover, so all closed now, and I put a cat sleeping sack (he doesn't get it and sleeps on top) and a lot of fleece blankets in there and today, my ski jacket, too, for isolation -
I formed a nest out of it.
I ordered a big heating pad, larger than himself, it'll arrive tomorrow evening, it is for outdoors and has 6 different heat levels and can heat for 8, 12 or 24 hours or forever.
Also, I am in the process of ordering a plush cave / basket for him.
I like this one because it is so thickly padded
yet it is a bit like the sack he has already, which is this one:
I don't know if he sees the difference?

All the very thick furry ones seems to be sold out.

We can't drive around at the moment, car is stuck because of ice
and most shops have closed for the lockdown.

To me it sounds like you really have it covered and if he is cold he will have plenty of places to go to stay warm <3 you are a great cat momma <3
I have to order a cave or basket or something like this in the next hours so it'll arrive soon, I can't decide which one.
I would give him one of my cats yet they don't like such things, we only have banana boat like things and open flower-shaped beds and such. I want him to have some cover around.
He found my ski jacket and at least, he wasn't leaving his cover like on fire, haha. Perhaps it helps him with isolation until tomorrow when his heating pad arrives.
We are mostly home all the time now so he can have heat whenever he is inside and we'll reduce heat when he leaves for his strolls and then give more again when he comes back.
I so want him to come inside, Malu loves him and they always bump heads at the window yet Mickey doesn't like it inside like many strays and Neele hates him, whenever she sees him she springs into the window pane (even with 17!) and cries and even spits.
I kinda like the top bed it looks warmer to me XD and like raised more so he wont feel so enclosed?
I like it best, too, yet I am wondering if he'll see the difference to the sack in the picture below which he has right now - and lies on top. This is the second pic the producer sent me. The roof isn't stable, it flatens and lies on top of the cat after crawling in:

I put a staple in there yet don't know if he crawled under. Here are some more pics from pet holders, to me, it looks a little bit more stable concerning the roof than the sack one which collapses instantly, what do you think?
yeah it def looks more stable. I have several cat beds but my cat refuses to use them XD
I think he is so cold right now, perhaps he is looking for cover even if he normally doesn't like it. An old big feather bed would be great, too, yet I don't have one and in pandemic times, driving around and quickly buy something isn't a concept anymore.....
yeah :( it is def a different world we live in now x.x makes it hard to get some things fast
I can wait myself yet I feel very bad for Mickey. He used to eat in several neighbor homes besides ours, too, we share him a bit yet he doesn't seem to have a warmer place right now than our covered sunbed.... Poor thing. When I see him trembling, I really could cry.
