i've got my hopes up this year :p i'm praying we make it through the first 48 hours without problems biting, or with kisses deleting viruses, or major lag, or anything else haha
IKR. We still keep coming back for more. It's been better in the past years, I think, though - I remember some events you couldn't do anything for a day and a half because of all the 502 and 504 errors.
Not gonna respond individually, but here's a few highlights;
If they're afraid the site is going to melt down to the influx of people if they announce the date and time of an event then something is very, very wrong. Though I'd argue that it is anyway looking at the way there's been consistent lag around events if the bug report forums are anything to go by and we're going to have to brace for lag no matter when the event starts.
It's very unprofessional and creates unnecessary panic and stress among the user base to not announce a date and time for a major site event. It's less about there being a 'delay' as starting tomorrow would fit within the time frame and more about keeping people on edge for days at a time as to when an event will start because they don't announce anything. There's a difference between on Wednesday saying the event will start the following Sunday, for example, to give the staff enough time to get in everything they need and simply saying nothing.
If people hadn't been directly asking would Amber have said anything? The answer, from the looks of it, is no. And the fact is that admittance that it's not happening today happened on an unrelated news post that most people aren't going to look at and yes is being talked about here but I'd argue the majority of people aren't paying attention to the forums either.
All in all this boils down to communication between staff and users. Looking at other sections of the forums, most specifically the bug report/site issues section, this appears to be a pretty common thing that I see people commenting on a lack of. For those of us who have lives outside the site and can't afford to be hanging around all day checking the item directory or a shop waiting for an event to start, or those who are in different time zones to the Subeta standard by a significant margin, it's beyond frustrating that as the start date for an event draws near there's literally nothing until the sudden explosion of the event starting and since we don't know when that is we can't plan our sleep or work schedules if we can't afford to take off days at a time or stay up past our set schedules for days at a time.
Anyway I've said my piece. Please no more pings because I won't be coming back here and responding or arguing in circles with people. This is my opinion and you're free to disagree, but I'm not turning this thread into a debate over it.
mhm. when i wrote that i was thinking about morostide -- i think morostide '17 was the one where the site actually went down for a day? and we had to have an extension? and then in comparison, i had no problems during last year's morostide (or at least none worth remembering). so i've got my fingers crossed for this year's survival!
Sometimes, I think some things might be more useful when left in the Suggestion forum, where they might actually be seen by people who can make the improvements, rather than in general chat threads. But oh well.
I think I remember that, too. I remember some DDoS attacks as well, although I'll be darned if I can remember which events, although I want to say Masq was affected at least one year.
I've had very few problems in the last year or so as well, so yeah, here's hoping!
As long as there are strains, I'll be happy. :)
high fives I got blistered hearts by chance too! I wore it for about ten months afterward, I was so delighted with the skellyperson look. I still regret giving it up although it's so nice to have the option to use them as skins now.
I think that was my favorite year of strains, too. Not that I'm biased or anything.
The friend that lur...I mean, invited me to this site got Dolly Dreadful. They were all so good that year.
ayy survival 2012 gang I was a crack head (heh) and remained like that until we could unlock skins. Oh, those days of hiding my strain and trying to make a normal looking HA
Out of my skin and completely bare, looking forward to the first signs of VIP! (Tomorrow I hope...)
I'd love a plot after so long since 2012, but as far as I can tell there's no real conflict going on...other than maybe Bubbles and Gunther, I guess?? Hrmm, I can't recall if that had a resolution or not.
Even if there isn't a plot, just some more zombie npc development for the subetapedia or something would be great!
Anyone else notice the new kiss scode buttons?!
high five Ah coverups... I spent so much on items to try to look human lol. And those were the days of wardrobe v1 where you could wear a zombie skin and zapper skin at the same time because... reasons. I was also a deer skin most of the time.
The amount of entitlement in some posts here disgusts me. Amber loves teasing us this is the way its happened for years. You want to know when an event is coming LOOK AT THE CALENDAR IN SUBETAPEDIA. You know staff has lives too and some work during the week and may have not had time to really get anything started. Also survival has started on the 16th for two years in a row now just so you know.
Bathory is hungry for MORE MORE I SAY. - If you think you are unattractive just remember you look like your ancestors, and hey all of them got laid-
Yeah I can see the new kiss icons, they were just text a few minutes ago!
Also what tights/pants are you wearing with all of the eyeballs...
Over the years, we've stopped giving hard dates for a lot of our holidays in case things aren't ready/emergencies on our end/etc. I don't want to post "oh hey we're doing Survival the 14th" and then not be able to deliver on that. We've had plenty of experiences like that, and we've moved away from that.
In the Subetapedia, we give estimations for when holidays will start/end. At the start of the holiday we give you all the information you need for that year's take on the holiday, because things change! We keep y'all updated throughout the holiday for when things will close (like forums, shops etc). We let you know when things have been extended. I think a little surprise as to when something starts is fine.
Also I commented in the news post this time that it wouldn't start today because when I do items for a holiday, I like to start early (my time, which is like 3 hours behind subeta). I like to have time to bring the shops down, add items without rush, test things, etc so we can get everything out during our "peak" time, usually 4-6pm. That's where are goal usually is when releasing holidays. Past that time and the holiday doesn't get a lot of time on the news post before it gets bumped down.
@/Aya I wonder if they'll update all the links. It looks a bit weird with only the kiss being like that so I might just remove the others for now.
I'm a little disappointed since I was geared up for it today (I want to be in at the start to make a bite directory), but I know how the site works so I'm not too upset. I'd rather it be vague. I'm just surprised you gave a hard answer today, and with the trolling, it can be a little hard to tell sometimes if it's the truth or not, but I'm glad you clarified.
I WAS TRYING TO BE NICE AND GIVE YOU GUYS AN HONEST ANSWER.
AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT! <3
