Yes, mines have caused a lot of damage in my area. Mining ended in 1990, but there's still side-effects. Our river is polluted & fish can't survive in it. It's being treated, currently, so it's getting better! I think they wanted to have it completed this year, but I'm not sure if it's 100% yet. But, it used to be orange and have really slimy residue, but now it's mostly clear!

Yes, they are renaturating the areas here, too.

speaking of, I should visit Europe at one point ^_^ my parents have been to Germany for business trips and they said it’s wonderful :)
