I just finished reading The Fifth Season which is a fantasy apocalypse novel. There are destructive magically gifted people who are feared and hated for their abilities, and enslaved by an empire to keep it in power. One of the most powerful turns against them and sets off events that may kill everyone or even destroy the planet.

The story is told by following three different threads of events, one where a young girl is taken to the center where the magically gifted slaves are taught to control their powers and be obedient to the state, one leading up to the destructive event, and one in the immediate aftermath. These threads are each full of fascinating characters and world building, and tied together with a common thread that becomes clear as one reads. I look forward to reading the sequels.

Then I started What's Bred in the Bone, a book I read a long time ago but barely remember. It starts off with the family members of Francis Cornish and a friend discussing the biography one of them wants to write about him, and how hard it is proving to be to accomplish. Then an angel of biography takes over the narration and begins to tell about how his parents met. It is an older book and has surprised me with casual prejudice in a few passages but still reading.

I think the last book I read was probably "Elites of Eden" by Joey Graceffa. It's good, but it's the second book so you have to read "Children of Eden" first. It's YA, and it's a post-apocalyptic world where everyone lives in a computer-controlled habitat. There are a lot of similar type books, but this series had some cool twists.

I read a lot, but I've been busy at work lately so I have come home and watched videos instead. You can tell how stressed I am by what I watch, lol--it's been all comfort viewing: Gravity Falls and Wild Kratts episodes, except for Riverdale and iZombie, which I watch every week because I follow them.

Somebody sent me a in an anonymous gift today. I thought that was an odd thing to send someone you don't know! Do you ever occasionally get weird things like that?

My favourite book series is the Foreigner series by CJ Cherryh about a man who is the diplomat between humans and aliens. It's like 20 books now and it's still good!

Oooh. I just realised we have a black base colour. I can dress up as Ilisidi sometime!!! (For those of you reading who don't know the Foreigner series, that's where she's from.) Maybe I'll be her during Masquerade, because the way the atevi dress would be so appropriate for it.

Thanks, and true, but at the moment I'm working just with stuff that I own, and yeah, her colours are red and gold! Also I am fuzzy on women's hairstyles, the art varies from the single queue we always see on the guys.

The descriptions of what the ateviboos were doing were SO what I remember doing with anime in the 90s. Fan translations of machimi and other films...getting together to watch....
