To me it makes sense not to have the mic, it just seems unnecessary. If it has a computer for a brain, it wouldn't really need that, just put sound receptors in its ears and give it a speaker/voice thing in its mouth. IDK what the mic was even for to begin with? Just a weird thing.

Also I appreciated your post about the shading and materials types, because I was sort of thinking something similar, just couldn't express it as well and with good examples.

Maybe owners could get those little claw cap things like they sell for cats. :P

Sammmmme. I actually always thought it was strange that they had microphones because, like you said, they've got computer brains, so they really don't need a strange external device that looks like a bluetooth headset. It just needs a speaker hole+grill and and a small hole or multiple for the mics. I think Blackmoon used to wear a one ear headset so maybe it was a 'created in the creators image' sort of thing.

Glad to hear that you liked it! I hesistated to post it because it felt long-winded but I'm glad I did.

That'd be beautiful. Just the sharp metallic claws with probably ceramic/polymer layered composite claw caps on them in vibrant colors. It'd be funny to watch your intimidating ex-war machine walking around the house with neon pink tips on their claws.

Oh yeah, forgot about Calvin having the mic himself so yeah that's probably where it came from originally. Now it just looks out of place though.

I actually just had another look through the Cadogre images on Subetalodge, and it looks like the other special colors actually do all have mics, for the most part. With some of them it's hard to tell because they have their heads turned, but with Blacklight and Spectrum you can see the very tip of it next to the mouth if you look closely.

Same with the other colors, with some of them it blends in well because of the colors or it's just hard to see because of the angle, But it looks like they all do have a mic except for Nostalgic and Steamwork. (Angelic, Glacier, and Reborn all have their heads turned too far for me to be able to tell)

Yeah his new art doesn't have the headset but the overlay of the costume for him does so that's the only way I remembered.

I dunno, the mics should all be on the left side of their heads (their left) so it's missing from the glade, DM, chibi, nightmare (I think??), hydrus (it's just his metal muttonchop showing), galactic (unless it's hiding in that intense shadow), bloodred. You may be very right about blacklight and spectrum though.

Those all do have them, the art just isn't as outdated for some of them so it actually doesn't look as bad. But it's there if you look close (some of them I had to look super close, like face all the way up to my computer screen close).

I actually wouldn't mind if the artist wanted to do a mockup of how the new version would look with the microphone, because with the better art style it actually might not look as bad or be as noticable since it's not really that noticable with some of the special colors.

Do a hard refresh (ctrl+F5 I think?) Hagane definitely did update all of the specials (dunno about spectrum) to not have mics anymore!! What I'm seeing on subetalodge is no mics and I checked Hagane's deviantart to check for the fullsizes and they deffo did have mics before.

There we go, it's weird that my cache updated the basic colors but not the other ones. Yeah, looks like the only thing that was changed is that the mics were removed, otherwise the older special colors look the same as they did before.

That's the only thing I dislike about this revamp--the more rounded features. I like the sharp edge the Cadogres were known for. I'm fine with the bulkier body frame, but I don't like the soft, rounded vibe the new one gives off. I loved the sharp claws and slick metal plates. Now the redraw colours are probably gonna be updated to reflect the new stubby front claws.

idk. the updated art is by itself wonderful -- the updated shading is nice and in general it's nice to see how the staff artists have improved, and i can get used to the new legs, the head spine, the chest plate.

but i don't like the domestication with the rounded claws and spines, even though we've got a lore reason for it (calvin's focusing on commercial products, wants in on that sweet steamworks cash i guess). i have three cads* 'cause the Dangerous Big Industry War Machine vibe fit the characters, and i'd be pretty bummed to see them lose that. one of the three is looking a little aged compared to his counterparts too, so i'm guessing that he might be due for a revamp soon, and i'm a little apprehensive about it.

[small]* i said two in my news comment yesterday 'cause i forgot my genji is a cad and not an endeavor. oops! sorry, buddy.[/small]

I think the stubbier claws are fine. If I was going to have something like a Cadogre as a pet for real, I wouldn't want to bring something with those old lethal looking claws into my home! O__O It makes sense for them to be rounded.

However, I hope the sharp claws will be kept on some special colours. Bloodred, Dark Matter, Glacier, Graveyard, Hydrus, Nightmare, Reborn, and Storm are all colours that sharp claws would fit well with, and should keep theirs if they get revamped.

I don't see the ones you mentioned getting revamped to have their claws changed as their art is current and they've already been modified to match the new bluetooth headset-less basic cads. Well some of the really old specials might but most of them still look really good.

The only thing that bothers me is the tail being curved despite obviously being one solid piece or metal. But then again, most of the special color Cadogres have odd, curled tails that defy the laws of metal. Maybe if it were segmented it'd make more sense.

Also I wouldn't mind seeing the sharpened claws come back. The rounded ones do look a tad strange on a robotic war beast.

Can I just say: I also find it SUPER weird that the tail is curvy and flexible but isn't segmented at all. Like the neck is clearly meant to be flexible but the tail??? I try to pretend that the tail is just like rubber or something because otherwise it makes zero sense.

The Endeavor has a weird tail like that too, no segmentation even though the other flexible parts of the body have it.

Yeah, I don't think many of those are likely to get revamped. I just mentioned them as examples of Cadogre that should keep the sharp claws, should revamps happen to any of them.

I'd say that out of the Cadogre colours I've listed, Dark Matter, Glacier and Reborn are the most dated looking and likely to be revamped. Hydrus could use a touchup, and maaaybe Graveyard too. The rest look fine.

Bless you for making this thread :'D

I've never been big on the robotic pets conceptually -- they just aren't my jam! So when folks say that the Cadogre looks more like a pet than an evil doom machine, I'm... actually pretty down with that, haha. I totally see what you're saying, though. The points are less pointy.

But it's also a lot beefier. The shading makes it look like like it's sturdier, IMO, but it does make it look more defensive than offensive. It isn't that it couldn't maim you brutally, it's just that it doesn't have to because you'll brutally maim yourself trying to dent its beeftastic plating :'D

I lovelovelove the eyes -- death eyes of doom -- and snout, and I'm so glad it kept its snaggleteeth. Bless the snaggles.

Probably just going to rehash what's already been said but, then again, I like the robo pets.

Pro: -They look more like the [sub]crazy[/sub] old version. -I like the way the tail spikes look (even if they're not so sharp), especially the spade on the end~ -They're heavy; like they have some bulk to them, despite the desc saying that they're lighter weight. & they're harder to kick over. haha.

Meh: -The tail pose. Personally, I've never considered them to be solid metal robots, but some kind of fantasy/sci-fi movable metal, if that makes sense. The endeavor is the same way. Living-metal things, not just solid, hinged shells with soft bending underworkings. So, the pose doesn't bother me. (and makes them look a little happier, which fits the "they're a pet! they love you!" idea) -The metal/plastic shell. They look more... matte to me, powder coated maybe, but still a metal. -The com device was ok, but it being gone is ok to me too. That was more of an upgrade. heh.

Con: -i want a decepticon, not an autobot. :( -I mean, I do not like the blunted claws, teeth, fins/wing/vents, mohawk, and... underspikes? I liked them dangerous, even if that doesn't quite fit with the housepet idea (soft makes more sense for robo-pets; people tend to be afraid of robots as it is. people don't want dangerous triangle shapes all over the thing they're inviting to live with them, but I do. :P ) I would, at least, like to see the sharper claws on them again. They are going to scratch up your hardwood floors. Your leather sofa is forfeit. Get over it. haha. -It would be nice if the chest orb was bright on all colors. -The lower legs used to be more... cone shapes as they went up. It looked more 'real' to me.

best gif. i love those robodogs. good to see they aren't being kicked over entirely now. though when they start the robot uprising we'll probably regret some of that... :')

seems general consensus on the negative side is wanting the claws back, if nothing else. (I mean, dogs cant retract their claws and completely destroy hardwood floors, give us our metal pitbulls back >:o)

Much like classic cartoons, you just need some well placed banana peels~ ;D

But really, yes! Spot's so great! So much better than BigDog, which getting so old. So clunky, so loud. :(

so many robot gifs Your shell-less dog wishes to play with you. [sub]I looped this spot one really well! proud[/sub]

Can't forget the toy/teacup variety!

And, did you know? They [sub]that is, Boston Dynamics,[/sub] don't chain their robots down any longer? Freedom. No one will kick Atlas ever again~

And that's enough fawning over human creativity. haha. I should probably talk about those cadoggies we love so much.

So, why robo gifs? They're fun and all, but they show something about bot design. Note that these robots are (mostly) becoming smooth and soft and friendly.

This guy? It's large, matte black, and all sorts of angry angles. That guy's designed for grunt work and war. You don't have to like it, it has a job.

The last two in this post? They're designed to be mass appealing. You could work with them, you may even want to work with them! Just look how bright and cute! So non-threatening!

The thing about cadogre was that they used to fall in between. They were remotely rounded, but still with an edge that comes from being mass produced battle bots that one could have the misfortune to purchase, if they're in the right place at the right time.

TL;DR? Look at all these gifs! Still don't want too smooth/friendly cadogres! :D
