Not everyone cares about pet slots, or forum titles or forum points, but maybe they do love battling and want a core.
We already had a Quest-a-Thon this summer, and I would have liked...other prizes, maybe? I never change my forum title since I got the one I wanted last summer, and I have 16 forum points I don't use. Pet slots will happen eventually, I'm not even in a rush to get more because I already have more than what I need.
I'm ignoring quests because I don't like questing. It's clunky, it's tedious, and I don't need more forum points or titles. But, I do need an Hydragellos Core, so what am I going to do in priority - the thing that will give me things I don't need, or the thing that will give me something I do want, and have wanted since I joined the site.
Staff, make quests actually fun and maybe I'll stop disregarding them. But right now, they're anything but fun. They're all very samey, always doing the same thing, rinse and repeat.
@ templar Depending on how close y'all get to the goal should it fail, I'm sure everyone who participated will still get a sympathy prize of some sort. Maybe not a pet slot, but something small.
for me personally, all I ever do are Quentin (mage amulets being my driving force), and sometimes Wizard (tokens for TS book restocks). Otherwise, I'm mostly focused on battling.
I'd almost like to see something else on the site get a "-a-thon" for a change of pace. Like, gardening, whenever that gets updated. Ooh, or a game-a-thon.

As said, I do think it comes down to prioritising over which event you would rather be apart of. I've seen countless comments on this thread about people with no battle pet, which i might add haven't trained for years like all serious battlers, who are complaining about not having the pet to fight the big boss, which takes more time grinding than all quests combined. Theres more than enough users who would enjoy a new pet slot that if they really wanted to could help, but alas 1 quest is easier than 1000.
QaT has been already this summer, and I just think people are more excited about the jelly war.
There's no consolation prize if we don't meet the goal. Staff clarified as much.
All we get is a slightly easier time next quest-a-thon.
[edit] Huh, game-a-thon. Do you mean Epicon? Because I'm pretty sure that's not getting a repeat due to how exhausting it got in a very short timespan. And if I had to pick between Epicon & Quest-a-thon... I'd rather do quests.
I actually see the increased rewards from all weekend quests a sort of consolation prizes. We don't usually have all quests be weekend quests. Such occasions are rare.
That said, I'm doing as much as I can to complete quests, not entirely because I want a new pet slot (though any addition to my account is nice!) but because I think staff has lent their support by making all quests weekend quests to motivate people more, and that judging from the progress bar we do have hope.
My average is about 20k per battle, though I keep having bad luck and getting killed in like 2 turns lately, so I'm expecting a minimum of 250 battles. I've already done 137 so I'm figuring I'll hit 150 and then wait for an update on my damage total in a few hours, since I have no idea where I'm at now compared to what I'd estimate. I'm really glad for the damage counter thing, battles go so much faster without having to count damage, and the new UI is so quick that it only takes a minute or two to finish a battle for me. Good luck with your 1600, that's... pretty daunting, but the prize is sure to be worth it!
Also I totally get the priorities, sorry if my post sounded overly guilt trip-y or anything. It's just disheartening having so many people who can't devote the time to both, when I can't do anything to make up for that. Group efforts can be awfully stressful when they're not working out as hoped, haha.

it's not that rare. They did it for the last QaT. Granted, not for as long as this time, but I digress.
I still find it kind of unfair that people who only do one quest get the same prize as someone who does hundreds, and people who do hundreds can still fail if enough people only do one quest.
Nah, we probably won't get anything aside from what we already got from quests, which is the only part of this whole thing where individual effort is rewarded. I just don't see staff rewarding us for losing. I do see people blaming battlers/the Gelatin War for a loss though.
Ah, mkay. By game-a-thon, yeah i guess I meant Epicon. It's been awhile since I remember Epicon though, so maybe that's why I forgot lol
Considering they are being treated as weekend quests even, yeah. True. I honestly was surprised to see a Gelatin War start up, so I don't see why battlers are to blame. It's an annual event. If anything, we didn't need another quest-a-thon interrupting the gelatin war. But that's my perspective at least.

Yeah, I can't say I blame you. We've had it last time, in... what? 2013? I wouldn't mind something like Epicon one day if it wasn't as horribly grindy with the gamescores. That was too tedious to be fun.
As for the gelatin war, quest-a-thon kind of started first and the gelatin war never had a set date, so... The jellies interrupted the quest-a-thon rather than it being the other way around. Battlers aren't to blame. The events shouldn't have overlapped in the first place. That's all there really is to it.
Of course battlers aren't to blame, especially if battlers weren't doing the quests in the first place. However, people are just going to be upset and the Gelatin Wars, being the one event that overlapped, is going to be the convenient scapegoat for their anger. This is just all a prediction but considering how the comments blew up over Shanti and the blob, I don't expect people to take a loss nicely.
@ frost I hope epicon comes back next summer. There are some prizes I need for Nuzlocke's TC. No i know how the events played out, i was just being a sarcastic bitch. I think because the last QaT just feels so recent, it seems like dumb planning to me that another was being hosted when obviously the Gelatin War was most likely gonna be happening sometime this August anyways.
Though I'm assuming enough cores will go out that we won't need a gelatin war next year. It should go back to alternating years after this one ends, cause of the new format.
Yeah, this isn't the first time I've seen the community get their panties in a bunch for, what feels like, every event or fun thing staff tries to do back-to-back for a short span of time. It's been awhile since I've seen this kind of behavior. It should pass soon.
Believe me, this is nothing to what I've seen in the past.

x') Ah, sorry. I'm shit at reading post intonations.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I was expecting a quest-a-thon after Morostide or something. Maybe Christmas again. Last quest-a-thon was... roughly 2 months ago, I believe.
If they were planning to have 'em back to back, I don't see why they couldn't have done the gelatins now and kept the quest-a-thon for the pre-anniversary week. Or quest-a-thon now, gelatins after. Start September off with a bang.
Yeah, i'm not sure what happened with all the weird timing for these two events. QaT would have been fine for a pre-anniversary thing. If only cause the war does put a strain on the servers more than usual, and i know the BAs were itching to test out the new UI and a new boss format this time.

I agree. :/ I'm taking part in both events actively along with several of my friends and holy Christ, it is burning all of us out.
So far, the staff reasoning for this is that they wanted to give us a challenge for the quest-a-thon because we've done so well the past times. Which... I called shenanigans on. No staff reply whatsoever on this in the meantime.
Never do this kind of thing again, please. Not like this.
Yeah, I have to agree, for those who want to do both events, this is absurd. I'm okay with seeing a challenge, but clearly last time we were challenged cause i know the goal was just barely met.
i guess the rewards of the quest event are to entice true dedication, but maybe if there was like, 500 CSC at stake, i'd put in the effort then.

What I meant actually was we didn't usually get all quests be weekend quests apart from rare occasions such as new year/ luminaire or QaT :)
Outside of these events, which don't happen too frequently every year (the second QaT we're having now actually came as a surprise to me), the only occasions I remember where staff made all quests special was when there were problems with quests resetting or site lag/ site going down.
They don't want to make the prizes for the quest-a-thon something sellable or transferable, if memory serves.
I definitely wouldn't mind a pick-your-own kind of deal for the main prize, though! Going to make a topic in suggestions after the quest-a-thon, too burned out for much thinking or idea formatting. Things that can't be sold/transferred easily would make excellent prizes without breaking the economy or getting dull after a while, but make 'em something that people of all areas of the site generally save up for and are interested in.
That way you still have the whole community effort going and everyone gets to pick their own big prize at the end depending on what they're into. Win-win.
Also, Sarah's quests. Make them count, but make them not give out anything but questpoints if you're above her cap. And pls add battle quests too.
Agreed, we won't get anything for losing. I imagine they'd just have another one in a few months maybe with a lower goal but that will still suck for the people who are maxed out on slots and could really use another one now. I'm nearly one of those people too, but I really wish they'd offer better prizes for doing.. idk 100 quests or something that would appeal to more users. Maybe let people choose between a pet slot/new wearable/potion of loyalty.
I kinda think we'll make it anyway (if we don't it's gonna be so close it'll be painful) but the blaming is my biggest issue with the timing overlap. There was a lot of rude comments being tossed around last time when we were doing so poorly and the NPC contest has resulted in a lot of strong opinions. We were being relatively decent to each other this QaT and I don't really want to see that dissolve and turn into more bitterness.
