I'd support this, I don't really see what difference it makes. And iirc this was something staff had already considered recently but idk if it really went anywhere.

I guess I don't really care one way or another, but as suggested by a few others, I'd want the year to not be editable. TBH I don't entirely see the point since you can just say a birthday in your description that isn't the pet's birthday, but, it's not a feature I'd use so my opinion hardly matters.

^^^ yes. Day and month, fine, but the actual year should be uneditable.

I support being able to change month and day, but not the year.

I agree with Sopheroo, month and day is fine, but I do think that the year should be kept and unchangeable.

I don't really care either way but I suppose I'm more supportive than not. I guess I don't really see the point since its completely within the rules to remove the adopted/birthday info and just write whatever your character's birthday is. But I know its important to some people (and I care about it on other sites) so why not? As long as its an addition field and doesn't change the actual dates -shrug- I don't care either way about year changing abilities, although if its available I think it should be both past and future years.

Though I will say I really dislike the idea of calling the Born date Discovery. Maybe Created instead? Since its already called "Create Pet" and all there's consistency.

I really don't mind if the year is changeable, although it would be informative to let the OP know why it shouldn't be.

And I just realized that if the timestamp includes seconds (which is invisible), the range of years only span from 1969 to 2038, unless it's stored in another way! :O

This is a fun idea. I think that instead of paying directly for the change an item should be created called a Fake ID and this should be sold by Jeremy or the Hustler for an outrageous amount of sP. You pay your money and wait a random amount of days, all the while never sure if he is going to rip you off.

I'm exceedingly amused that if year is made unchangeable but day and month are, you could have a pet born on 29 Feb on an odd-numbered year.

Here in Subeta, pets are not really for trading or for 'having value' other than the value you the user yourself get from owning it. As such, I'm do not agree that TPTB should get involved with or even pretend to acknowledge value of any particular birthday or year. Private CWs are ignored as they should be, and for this feature retro- or even far future- years should IMO be allowed.

I'm not sure if this would interfere with legacy pets, but I do think that at least with legacy pets, the born and adopted dates being the same on some of them might just be because some of the information has just been lost to time. Yarii is my oldest pet on site, but his born date/adopted date is a month before I actually joined the site. He was my first pet on site, but I joined in December in 2004, adopted him from the pound soon after and that's how I got him.

His born and adopted date list the date from when he was created on site by whomever eventually threw him in the pound. The information of me adopting him soon after I joined the site though I'm guessing, has just has been lost to time.

It's an odd thing for me to say this since I usually have the creation date of pets coded out of my profiles, but while month and day can be changed I still think year should be kept to signify when the pet was actually created on site.

I like this idea, but I'm for the three dates. The accurate Birthdate, an editable date and an adopted date. To me finding the perfect dates is all about the hunt and then snag. Changing it is fine, but I'd want the real one in there. - On say an untouched profile. The ID's can't change or the database will be in a sputtering mess XD that I get. But the ID's are attached to the order of the pets creation, so that would limit the editing of the real birthdates? (or creation dates?) I forget where I was going with this... :/ but anyways I Like the idea so yay. ^_^

This would be a neat idea. Ngl, I'd likely mourn all of the sp/csc I've wasted/plan to waste on name exchanges to get everyone paired with the dates I want. Speaking of, wouldn't this render that feature useless, or am I not thinking this through all the way?

i wouldn't mind this feature, would've saved me a lot of hassle and money when i shuffled names around for gladdy (could've focused on looking for a different year, too). i think just being able to change month/day is fair, though i understand the desire for changing year too.

name exchanges would still be good if you want to move names around on battle pets? i'm sure i'm missing something else but that's about all i can think of, since most everything else is cheaper than name exchanges (angelic potions, tc slots, etc). actually, if this were implemented but we could only do month/day, i'd be tempted to hunt for certain years and do name exchanges for those because i'm ridiculous like that p: so it'd still be useful, at least in certain situations haha

I have no issue with this being done because new Pet features are always nice. I personally don't know if I would use it though.

Name exchanges are still good for IDs, experiments, battle pets, and names if they already won spotlight.

I don't really see a point in this? You can already hide the pet's birthday and/or their adoption date, and in their character, you can make mention of the character's birthday?

This just seems overly convoluted for a feature that doesn't really do anything. If they were to do this, you shouldn't be able to change the year, though. It should just be "Born on xyz, adopted on xyz," and then it should have a third thing saying "Birthday on xyz" if anything. Or just make it so you can toggle the information on the pet profile elsewhere so you don't have to hide about the dates and think about them.

I don't much care either way - I may or may not ever use it.

I'd support if "Born" was changed to a word like "Created" and then there was an entirely separate line for birthday. I also think the rules would need an update to include misrepresenting the creation date (IE, if you're trying to trade a pet, you must clearly display and state the actual creation date, not just the birthday you paid for).

Actually, explicitly trading pets and names is also listed in the rules, but offering a pet for adoption and (privately) adopting one in return would be fair game.

Or another suggestion is this: A pet has 3 dates:

  1. Adopted date to replace the actual creation date.
  2. Birthday (without the year, if this feature is implemented I'm still for changes made to day and month but not the year)
  3. Then the last line is something like: 'has been with -owner's UN- since -insert adoption date if pet is not originally created from that account, or original creation date- So for example my pet Hanson would have something like this in his profile: Adopted date: August 3 2007 Birthday: May 6 Has been with Maskros since August 3, 2007

My adopted pet would have something like this: Adopted date: September 29, 2015 Birthday: September 29 Has been with Maskros since February 6, 2017

I think this will avoid the confusion of having 'creation date' and 'birth date'. I'm just wondering how can a pet be created on one day but born on another :P. Bottom line is I'm still reluctant to this change, for the reasons I have stated earlier, and because this will make little sense for pets meant to be a futuristic character, unless both the adopted date and has been with line are removed from said pets' profiles.

Ideally, I'd like for my pets to have their corresponding character's actual birthdays, but I have the same concern as Aztec.

I think having separate creation and birth dates is a good compromise.
