Sphynxes (sphinges?) are not allowed as students and they also do not belong at Hogwarts, they are way too dangerous for the school that has the likes of Gryffindors and Ravenclaws in it. Griffindors'd be rash enough to try to interact with them without any knowledge unlike a Ravenclaw, and of cours eRavenclaws would be smart to answer the riddle but would ignore the practical physical lessons from their Care of Magical Creatures class. Children from both houses would just get eaten more often than not, and given how ridiculously one-child wizards all are and how dangerous magic is in general, this would just not happen. So no Sphynges at Hogwarts, at all.

Now, Beauxbatons they would put up with that, and it has a whole pride of them from the last wizarding exploration of pharaonic egypt. Their archaelogists/muggle studies professoriat didn't even get cursed....too badly.
