High Sierras? So California? Sounds like Heaven! I shouldn't kick though, I'm 2 hours west of the Rockies and that includes an hour and a half on the ferry.

I remember Montreal getting a big dump years ago. We had gone to a hockey game that evening and the snow was so deep when the game was over we had to drive to Ontario just to get off the highway, all the exits were blocked. Instead of getting home around 11ish we didn't get home until after 3am. Not an evening I'd like to repeat!
