It's been coming from both sides, honestly. People are just really frustrated with this event.

But yeah, apparently Gold doesn't have as many active members as we do, so the ones that have been trying their best are getting angry because they've been having to carry the whole team who either doesn't care or gives up or whatever.

I'm just glad that this part of the event seems to be almost over.

From my understanding (not trying to speak FOR anybody here), the fact that the last day on the trail we won by 35% AND that they got the wind something like 7 times, they called out the unfairness of Esther and, frankly, the response from staff. And some of them were pretty reasonable, but some of them kind of eluded to the amount of anger that's boiling underneath, saying that they "eventually gave up" and that it felt useless and stuff.

Objectively I can understand that frustration, especially after theirs was glitched a previous day, but the immediate insinuations that staff was acting preferentially or that it was reason for them to be "suspicious" just blows me away.

WTF.I mean, I was kinda pissy that we kept getting bad weather and whatnot, and different obstacles in our way, but I just kinda...walked away I guess from Subeta for a bit. Maybe a few complaining comments here, but thats about it

For the quest drive at least, the major complaint was that an event like that was absurdly unfair to their team. They do not have as many active users as we do, and they have a large portion of their team that isn't online from 6pm to midnight because of time zone differences.

I think some of them were also pissy because we came up with the forum group bank storage first so we had more users able to finish 150 quests before midnight and then just kept up the momentum throughout the following day. I understand their frustration with that, so hopefully we can just start working collaboratively and maybe have some actual plot steps and puzzles.

It's just hard for me to buy that whole less active members thing, though. Like I mentioned last week when I was chatting with some other members of this team, I have ALWAYS previously chosen the "bad team", the one that's inactive or just totally doesn't band together and DO anything. I've felt that frustration keenly for almost every competition over my 7 years (that reminds me, Subetaversary, I gotta go get my loyalty box), but grousing about it on the internet is bad form. Especially when you're doing it with subtle indications that you think it's all been against you from the start, which a lot of them sound like!

There are some things about this event that didn't really work and that definitely should be discussed.

But the quest complaining I don't get. I fully expected them to win, and we all had exactly the same amount of time to do the quests. It's not the site's fault or our fault that the people on that team weren't online to do quests or chose not to do them. It's a valid task.

And I get the frustration, but at the same time....eh, nevermind. If I can't say something nice, I'm not going to say anything at all.

I do agree that some of the complaints have gotten a bit out of hand, but I also somewhat agree with the sentiment that not as many of their members actively participate, or they at least don't communicate as well as we do.

I know they were struggling a lot to complete some of their obstacles, even without glitches and such, while we've been taking ours down pretty quickly. I think the quest drive also showed that, since they technically have more members than us and yet we beat them in that by a huge margin. And quests are limited per person, so that kind of implies that more of our members did all of ours.

I'm not saying that all of their complaints are necessarily legitimate, but I can understand their frustration about some things, especially ones that they couldn't do much about.

I just hope there's a bit of a shift in the direction of the plot from now on, where maybe we focus more on our own individual participation instead of the team as a whole. That ought to placate most people's concerns about getting their own plot prizes and such.

I can totally see why they were upset at the quest drive, not only because we have more active members but a lot of their members seem to be in Europe and didn't get on in time to be able to do the quests twice. Combined with the outright ridiculous amount of bad weather they got? You're kidding yourself if you think our team wouldn't have complained just as loudly if not louder. I mean, I'm not the only one who remembers the melodramatic responses some on Team Steele had to the whole spy thing, am I?

Like, I'm really proud of us and our team and our camaraderie, but there seems to be a lot of hostility towards Team Gold that's getting out of hand.

I have no problem with the complaints about the event itself, because there were a lot of things about the event to complain about - mostly that it seemed (and still does) that staff are basically taking a 'we'll see how this goes and adjust as necessary' attitude to the event, instead of everything being sorted and ready to go before it started.

That said, what I am frustrated by are the many comments I've seen that blame Team Steele for this, as if we had any possible say in how things are done in the event. I get the frustration, and I'd be pretty pissed too if half my team just gave up, but to blame the other team for something out of their control is just utterly ridiculous.

I definitely agree that a shift in direction would be welcome. Not only because this is beginning to seem tedious to just about ALL involved, it seems, but also because competition doesn't seem as situationally appropriate, given the recent plot hook.

And for this reason I am SO SO GLAD I wasn't around for whatever the spying drama was, only heard about it after the fact. As such, I really haven't seen hostility towards Gold. However, the spying itself is indicative of how way-too-seriously some people are willing to take this fun internet activity, in my opinion.

I agree with this as well. Blaming the other team isn't the answer, and that goes for both sides. None of the users could really control where things were going, except for participating where they could. But frustration at the event in general is understandable, and I hope staff learns some things from this and maybe plans better for the next thing that we do.

At least I hope that they will put some more thought into how changing some things will affect other parts of an event, because a lot of this seems to be monitoring it as it goes with trial and error, instead of being planned and set from the beginning.

I also think as for the quest thing there have been users on both sides who live in other time zones. One of the things that more or less frustats me a lot is I hardly ever catch a reset - those are always way to late for me.

So yes I was super pissed off that morning.

But then if you can choose, there'll always be a team that has more people on there.

But then, I think we could also complain. We had a lot of bad weather the first trail - I am still not pleased with how thatbug was put back.

I can understand that its not funny to see the other team winning. Still, this is just a game.

I get the frustration from Team Gold. I felt frustrated when they won the speed boost and speeded past us for that leg of the trail, but I didn't complain. That's part of the game. I think as long as one team doesn't deliberately abuse a glitch like one team did during the snowman competition, there's nothing to really get upset about. At this point, either team can win.

I like activities where we all work together better anyway. I'm not a big fan of competition. As such, I have a hard time criticizing Team Gold for complaining too much; yet I also think giving up when your team is depending on you even if you have no chance of winning is understandable but unsportsmanlike.

I'm wondering if this "oh, hey, a surprise day off!" is staff furiously re-coding the event in the background so that it doesn't continue in this vein. Their silence today kind of supports that idea.

I'm perfectly okay with that.

My two cents: I have spent over 10 years on game sites like this (gave up on the other one that wont be named :( ), but I have stuck with this one. The same thing keeps happening over and over again. You will always have players who join a team and expect to win everything. At the first loss they just give up completely. That just causes their team to struggle even more after that. Instead of seeing that it was their own teammates that are bringing them down some players blame the site itself. "Staff hate us" "this is rigged" "we weren't meant to win" gets tossed around a lot. For me personally I just try to go into every event hoping for the best, and doing everything that I can for the team. Even if we are losing. I know that in the end the more effort I put into it will give me greater rewards. Win, lose or draw I can at least get personal plot points or something out of it. Some players don't even care about that. At least we can stick together and make new friends :D that should be the best part of this event, and for me it is ❤ This is the first time I have actually used a team board and chatted on it!

Honestly the crying about the spying is what makes me think people are taking this internet game way too seriously. It's not like there weren't people on our team on their threads/ping groups (I live with someone on team gold who rooted out whatever members we had there) and I recall at least a few people saying that they were "sick to their stomach" over it. It's a game, it's a competition, emotions run high, and let's not act like everyone on Team Steele is the picture of great sportsmanship. Some people on both teams aren't great sports, they're in the minority. Let's face it, Esther is definitely an OP advantage because the amount of storms Gold got was ridiculous. We'd be pissed the hell off, too.
