He nodded. "It's one of those things I wish I could unsee." He released the boggart for Fade and watched to see how the boy did. There were a few moments when the ex-auror thought he needed to intercede but he waited. When the gumballs fell, Paul whisked the boggart back into the cupboard with a flick of his wand.

"Would you like a either of you butterbeer or a calming draught?" Paul asked Fade and Katsumi. "You okay there Fade?"

Magnus hadn't been paying attention, he was in his own world but looked at Katsumi with a slight smile, "Aria 'as a griffon," he said, "I guess I ain't scared of 'im nomore." He watched as Fade battled the boggart. The boy wasn't sure what to say but finally settled on, "You both did much better than I did."

“OK… Yeah, I’m OK.” Fade half smiled at Paul and slumped into a seat close to Magnus () and Katsumi. () “Guess I didn’t think…” That was part of the problem, he hadn’t ever considered the thing he was most afraid of was something as stupid as a recurring dream. “Just thought it was guna be a shark, ya’know? Those things are terrifying…” He still hadn’t loosened the grip he had on his wand. “Nah, yours were tangible fears.” He looked up at Magnus. “Only you better not ever think I would feel that way.” He gave his friend a stern look, as his hair began to slowly return to a bluish tint.

The girl shook her head at the offered drinks. "Thank you but no." Fade joined his two housemates, and commented that his fear was a dream. "If you keep having it, it makes sense that it's tied to something you're afraid of," she told him. "I wouldn't call Magnus's or mine /tangible/, either. Perhaps not connected to a dream, but they're more concepts than physical things." Katsumi sighed. "Considering that I knew what I was going to be facing...I think I had a real advantage over either of you. A boggart made its home in my grandparents' shed when I was little. Gave me nightmares for a week when I discovered it." And she still thought she'd done poorly. Her failure had her almost as shaken as the boggart itself.

"Didn't fink meself," he said with a frown. Then shaking his head he said, "nah I don't mate. I fink that about meself..." He was looking at the floor, bent on not meeting anyone's eyes. He did wrinkle his nose at the idea of meeting one younger than he was now. "Sorry you 'ad too," he said, not quite sure how to comfort her.

Katsumi nodded thanks at Magnus, but she didn't really have much further to say. The best she could do for either of the two boys was just to be present, and she was still rather preoccupied. Did she want to try facing the boggart again? Certainly she felt that she should, but she'd hardly calmed down from her last attempt.

Magnus had calmed down enough to rummage in his bag and hand Fade a brand new sketchbook and a set of muggle drawing supplies. "Got you these during the break," he said, "only lost 'em under me books when I packed and just found 'em." Maybe the drawing supplies would help? Paul smiled and suggested that Magnus draw something too.
To Katsumi, Paul said, "Is there anything you would like to ask or talk about? I'll answer unless its something unspeakable." He noticed she seemed to do better chatting and thought maybe this would help her best. ((no worries lol sometimes I don't know where to go. But lol feel free to ask Paul whatever she wants including personal things. xD if she feels inclined. Might help her get calmer?))

The girl hesitated, looking at the man for a moment, then away again. She had a few questions, but most of them were /very/ personal. After a long pause she finally turned a bit so she was facing him. "Um...I know I'm prying, but...why did your father receive the Dementor's Kiss?" She left the question simple, not mentioning any of the possibilities that swirled through her head. Paul could answer or not as he chose.

Paul looked directly at Katsumi to let her see he was not bothered by the question said calmly, "I knew it might be asked coming here. But my boggart is the only one you children can see, the others have unspeakable ones." He paused and said, "He murdered witches, wizards and muggles during the first wizarding war. I was five at the time and my mother brought me to the Ministry, I think hoping to use me as a bargaining tool. When she realised that it was going to be done, she ordered me to watch so as not to dishonour my father."

While everyone was working on their boggarts, Millie went and sat down to collect her thoughts. She was really proud of herself the way she handled her fear of failure and rejection.

Paul crossed over to Millie and handed her a butterbeer. "You did really well," he said, "fear of failure is a difficult one to overcome." The adult smiled at her.

Millie smiled. "Thank you Paul. I think I'm a long way from fully overcoming it"

"Perhaps," he said noncommittally, "but well you heard how bad I was at the bogarts when I was young."

Elise grew more and more nervous as each student had their turn with the boggart. She closed her eyes and practiced repeatedly the wand motions of the Boggart-Banishing Spell.

Magnus was settling down, especially with Paul's presence. The adult gave a reassuring smile to Elise and told her she could go when ever she was ready.

(( I'm guessing that Paul sounds American for the most part? Enough that someone who is used to Japanese-accented English half the time probably can't tell he was raised five years in Britain?))

Magnus wasn't the only one that seemed reassured, though in his housemate's case, it was merely a matter of her perpetual composure reasserting itself. She'd tucked her hands in the folds of her robe so the whiteness in her knuckles from how tightly her hands were clenched would not show. She couldn't bring herself to say anything to reply to Paul. He didn't seem upset, and maybe he had come to terms with it, but how did one respond to that? What it must have been like for a child that age, to be near a dementor at all, much less....

The image of her dementor-draped-in-chains boggart flashed back into her head, and she sat a little straighter as she tensed up. She took a carefully measured breath. Count in, count out. The new strain left, but she still couldn't unclench her fingers from where they gripped her wand.

(( correct, he might sound British on a few words but really more American than anything else.))

"I didn't upset you, did I?" Paul asked Katsumi noticing she had gone rather quiet. "If I did, I'm sorry." He frowned unsure what else to say.

(( kicks Katsumi You dolt. You're worrying Paul, when it's your boggart and your mistake that's got you all upset BUT YOU WON'T SAY SO. T.T))

Katsumi looked up at Paul and shook her head. "No. If anything, it makes me angry." She frowned, and continued in a softer voice. "I don't think I realized just how far the reach of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named extended, if he had active supporters in America." Her answer came readily enough, but her focus did not appear to be fully on the conversation.
