That's the take I get, too. I understand they're coded differently, and that's encouraging - maybe all of us rummaging through vaults really won't strain the server as much as shops do. But if they're expecting us to NOT dump all our stuff in vaults and use the vaults daily, they're nuts.
I get the shop downsize has to happen, but it feels like none of the infrastructure to assist the change is in place or has really been thought of. Where are the items going to go? We dump them all in our vaults, I guess. How? One at a time! In a week!
I've seen other people suggest that galleries could be like "public vaults" which I really like. Galleries, as galleries, wouldn't be manipulated as often as storage shops either, so it would work.
I too just want a reliable place to keep my items. If I have to dive into my vault for stuff, I will, but right now I cringe just thinking of it, given the vault's limitations.
We absolutely need a mass "move to vault" option, though. Because right now, if we have to switch over this quickly, there's no other way it'll happen in time. And what happens if we can't move all our items in time? I mean...what?
God the economy's going to go shpadoinkles for a while over this.
it's been about twelve hours since i posted that (which was well after other people brought it up in the news comments), and as far as i can tell there's been no comment (though i think i saw something about a FAQ, so, who knows). (my personal feel is the answer is 'no, we can't carry that over,' so i am fatalistically making peace with losing my progress on that end as well, but hopefully sometime today we get an update that. does not say that)
Yes, I agree with what you said about understanding why they feel like this change has to happen, but the means or methods are just not sufficient. The site has too many problems right now, it just feels like now is probably not the best time to be trying to implement a change like this when our other options are not that great.
Although I wouldn't worry too much about moving your items yet. As I understand it, shops are going to be disabled in a week or whatever, but they're not actually going to be deleted. You won't be able to add new items to your old shops/galleries, but you will still be able to remove things from them. So any old items you have can just sit there for now, it's just any new items you get will have to go into the new shops or your vault or somewhere.
Just reread the news post and you're right, things'll freeze and they'll sit there for as long as it takes to move things. Okay that's slightly helpful.
I think this change would be best made in the summer, when we're not right smack dab in the middle of Event Season. All those new fancy Vesnali items? WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO GO OMG.
Yeah. My kingdom for improved vault search functionality and a mass move option.
I didn't mean making galleries exactly like the treasure chests. Something in the coding stops treasure chest items from showing up in shop search. A new gallery could be the same as a gallery is now with the only difference being that bit of coding so items don't show up in shop search.

Seriously, I wish they could have waited until after Vesnali at least. I think that's the last major event before the quieter summer times.
Even if they did implement a mass move option though, I'd be hesitant to use it given how the current quick stock options can be a bit finicky with only 100 items. I don't want to think about trying to move thousands of items and then having to make sure they're all accounted for.
Yes, I would love to see them do something like that. I believe that's what most people have meant when they talk about making galleries a separate feature. Eliminate everything about current galleries that has to do with shop search and pricing stuff, and just make it a place to store and display items.
that thread is in S&I which allows necrowing btw
uhh this thread may have some talk about vending in it.
vaults should be safe? I think word of vaults being removed is just panic.
I&;ve been thinking about galleries. Pet treasure chests are galleries and the items we have in them don&;t turn up in shop searches. Surely it would be possible to create new galleries using the treasure chest system.
The treasure chest system is awful if you want to put more than like 20 items at once in there.
while manual organizing helps a lot with customisation, you have to do all of it yourself, with a terrible archaic system who is shit on mobile
Oh, not just this, but I like to have my items alphabetized and the lack of names in organization makes it a CHORE to work with. Like uh...most things with items on this site.
These two posts really sum my feelings up in a nutshell (along with my other personal feelings) and are worth posting again:

As many have pointed out: It really seems like this could have been better solved by investing in the underlying programming of the search function. I'd like to throw my support behind simply eliminating galleries from the search function and retaining the unlimited size. It's hard to imagine that eliminating galleries from search would create backlash of this magnitude.
Imposing a limit on retail shops would still create a strain on vending fans, but it seems like sellers would be able to adapt somewhat. Especially if there were an option to auto-add items only above a certain value (this would probably strain the servers too though, but maybe not as much as searching through the mega-shops now? not sure). That way the things that weren't really worth selling in the first place could be mass-deleted or fragged.
-I think the initial limits put forth are incredibly, ridiculously small, and if there's anyone on staff who actually thinks someone can quest daily and work with a 250 limit they are very, very out of touch.
I don't feel like working on anything or questing until this thing shakes out/crashes and burns. And I can't wait to see how old/pricey items disappear from the shop search! Fun.
I'm gonna repeat what I said in the News Post here... (Taking advantage of being able to edit it here though. -sees mistakes in my comment there and cringes-)
The ridiculously low limits are just another indicator that the people that run this site, and make these decisions, are completely out of touch with what the playerbase does and wants out of Subeta.
So glad there are so many options when it comes to ways for me to spend my spare time and money.
I play Subeta because I have a lot of friends online, love the community and love the game. However, with the constant changes, never-ending list of half-done projects (wardrobes, etc) and now another new project that I swear is going to bring only more chaos to the site, I swear the population base of Subeta is going to drop to non-existent.
I've said this many times before and I'll say it again: we will not get bored waiting for things to be properly finished. Finish one major project first then move on to another. Please don't keep bringing out new features when other features have not been properly finished and finalised 100%. I promise you, we would be much happier to see working features, than a bunch of new features that barely work.
Just because users suggest things doesn't mean they should be acted upon before the previously started projects are complete and working 100%.

600 comments in the news post and counting. This is getting worse and worse. At first, I was more understanding of the change (minus the non-GA screw over), but now this has become a horrendous idea overall. The economy is going to tank. So many users are threatening to leave, like my fiance. Many others are planning to not spend any more money on this site, myself included.
I know why most of us are fighting so hard against the change: we don't want to see Subeta fall apart. The intentions of the staff are a good one, but they're incredibly out of touch with the average user. There HAS to be a way to make shop/gallery limits much more realistic... At least enough to not force many users away and destroy the economy.
Words are no longer enough. Action has to be taken to regain some trust in the users. This is a make or break decision that has to be made by the staff.
I also agree with completely. Juggling a bunch of incomplete projects is not a good way to run any business. If at least ONE project becomes 100% completed, I think users will start to regain trust with the staff.
While I completely agree with the idea that they need to finish what they start, the fact is all these features are interconnected. Sometimes it's a matter of them getting to a point where they can't finish because another feature is broken. Also, they can't ignore a problem that is becoming increasingly detrimental to the site just because they haven't finished a prior project.
I'd like to see them remove certain features completely because they obviously didn't work out as intended (minion battling anybody?) and I'd like to see them finish fixing aspects of the site I enjoy, but I also understand that this beautifully multi-faceted thing we call Subeta has got to be an absolute beast to work on.
This is definately make or break. At least for me. Where am I supposed to put my 3400 minions? Why would I want to keep them in my vault mish mashed with 20k other items, Where nobody can see them?! Why does subeta release 100 items every week to the point that we now have 72k!!! items on the site when they know that their servers are bursting at the seams? I'm not moving anything out of my gallery. And if I do, It will be into the donation corner and it's not an angry threat either, Minions are the only reason I even play this frickin game anymore and if I can't keep them all what is the point??
I'm not invested enough in the site to care too much - I've just accepted that it's going to be hung up and slow after all this time - but if this cuts down on the load time to actually buy an item from a shop, that's good. It took almost a minute just to get to the "You've bought this" screen.
i'm open minded to these changes, i hope that staff and users can get things worked out so that we can end up with something that's both functional for the user base and the servers.
the initial 250/500 limit is... pretty laughable, i gotta admit. i tried to prepare for this change myself when it was kind of stated to be inevitable, and still my gallery and shop is way oversized.
right now, my biggest source of frustration is not being able to plan for the limits besides... putting a stop to things like questing so my shop doesn't grow even more oversized. i just kind of have to take a step away from the site it seems, and that's annoying.
also i'm kind of terrified that this feature will go the route of other new subeta features where it's introduced and... seemingly forgotten. that would be an absolute nightmare.
