I never really got over them changing the mutant chia, my reason for playing at all back in the early 2000's.
The site is so full of unexplored potential to this day, unresolved plots, worlds and characters that could just be so much more exciting with the right touch, and then they laid off most of their staff and never recaptured their imagination.
Subeta delves into territory neopets shied away from and goes bolder with its art and concepts. I think the biggest failure of neopets is that it began marketing itself more towards just kids, who are a lot more fickle and just have a lot more to get into these days. It can't compete with video gaming.
I 've been a member over there for a really long time. Loved the site when it was Adam and Donna.
Then came the changes including massive cheating, auto buyers, cookie grabbers, etc.
Now all I do is make sure my pets are in the lodge, zap a labby and play my one favorite game.
RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

I played neopets as a kid. However, I lost my childhood account when I lost the password and my mom's email kept rejecting the password recovery. As much as I tried to prevent it, one day I got logged out. That made me lose everything. Given that I was an immature little kid and it was before I got therapy to help me manage my emotions as an Aspie, I cried myself to sleep and was devastated.
My childhood account was there in the heyday of Neopets. I remember when Neo had a sidebar, unconverted pets, and no Neocash.
Years later, I came crawling back. Much of the site is intact, but has been expanded. There's a new world or 2, I can't remember exactly. Despite the staff's promise to never make Neocash items give you an advantage in the game, along with this year's Daily Dare was a subplot that required NC purchases to even play. ;/
I do have fun at Neo, and they do have quite a bit of flash games I loved as a kid and still love now. A few weeks ago, I was in the in the high scores for Faerie Cloud Racers I (not the newer version, which is a total cringeworthy disaster worthy of the AVGN's attention).
However, there are many things I prefer about Subeta. We have better art, human avatars, a more useful layout, easier money (as n00bish as it is for me to admit), and are waaaaay more mobile-friendly.
Thank you Subeta for being a refuge when Neopets changed.
PS. I still regularly play Neo. If nothing else, I do the dailies, stick my pets in the Neolodge, go to the auctions/trading post, and play my fave games. I would give my username and find Neofriends but I think that crosses the line into promoting rival pet sites, so I won't. zips mouth locks mouth burns key with fire

I still have my account but I don't play. x_x I go on once in a while to feed pets/play the Yooyuball tourny (because that's fun to me for some reason haha) but that's it.
You know what's stupid there? They have their Negg Hunt (politically correct Easter celebration) that gives out magical Neggs. But in order to USE the magical neggs given to you, you have to pay real money for NeoCash! I fondly remember when they said you'd never have to buy your way through the game and that all cash items would be aesthetic only. Ughhh.

I still play Neopets. I feed a lot of Kadoaties mostly, but at the moment the site just isn't really holding my interest like Subeta or other sites. Mostly, because I feel like I actually have to do things here. My goals are much more achievable than on Neopets. Like I really want a Revel Roundup trophy, but some of the scores are way too high, impossible in fact.
My username there is the same as here.
I left Neopets months before they ruined my Pets with their v2 art which is more than 11 years ago I think because about 6 months later I found Subeta. ❤️ Reasons: the German community was uhm...I am lacking any neutral words to describe the situation properly and in a still child-friendly way...and the German staff got invaded by holier-than-thou ghetto clowns. I still remember a nickname I secretly gave to one of the German "support" - Peter Delete Button. Guess that says a lot. Since then I haven't looked back and I wouldn't even attempt to play there again if they would pay me for it. At this point I don't even remember my usernames and I couldn't care less, lol
tl;dr version: I am a 100% Subeta child so no thanks to Neopets. I like my freedom of speech and I'm all for a staff that actually cares about their users and not just $$$.
I made my first account when I was 11, played the game very enthusiastically, then as I grew up, I stopped entirely. A few years ago, I made a new account out of nostalgia. Personally, I found the game to be more fun as an older person, because it was easier to achieve goals that would have been considered really "hard" and virtually unachievable as a kid (mainly unlocking time-consuming avatars, getting the lab ray and saving up for expensive pet modifying items).
I had fun increasing my avatar count and working towards my pet goals but after I got all my dream pets, I got bored of the game because I couldn't find much else to do. I used to play Key Quest and Habitarium in my spare time to earn some extra NP but after the company switch, they disappeared and never returned, which turned a lot of players, including me, off.
I still go there from time to time to try and earn some more avatars and chat on the boards, but these days I find myself on Subeta MUCH more often because I like it a lot more, from the artwork, to the human avatars, to the much wider variety of minions, to name a few things.
Also, some of the boards over there are rather...annoying, I find? I frequent the Newbie boards though, so maybe that's why. It used to be entertaining but now I think it's full of people who try too hard to be ironic. It got really stale really fast. Now I just visit the Avatar and Games boards so I can keep up with the Kad feeding times (only 68 more Kads to go until the avatar!). The boards tend to be really restrictive as well. The chat filters are extremely sensitive and board moderators are rather...totalitarian.
It's funny because I only made a Subeta account after someone posted a thread on Neopets saying that Subeta was better (it got deleted quickly, of course).
Neopets was pretty much my first experience on the internet, starting from when I was twelve. Now I'm 26 and to this day I do visit it on occasion, but I don't spend as much time on it as I used to.
Growing up with the site, I used to love playing games and creating petpages the most, and it's what motivated me to create characters in the first place so I give it credit for that. It's also how I found other sites like this one and DeviantART, allowing me to branch out with the internet in general. Being a way for me to escape my stressful life and associate with others back when school bullying was taking it's toll on me, I am thankful it was a part of my preteen-to-teenage life.
But things seemed to change and go downhill when the original owners gave the site to Viacom. Pets got converted and most the people I knew left, then everything really started to feel less about the users and more about making money. Even now with Neopets in new hands, I don't feel this new management is taking good enough care of the site. I still enjoy the site to an extent, but not as much as I used to, especially now that there are other places on the internet I'd rather prefer.

I discovered Neopets one day thanks to the old AOL interface like back in 2001. I dunno what it was about that site but I lingered there for many years. Made friends, had fun, got better at roleplaying. I lost my account there and well yeah won't get into it.
When that happened I kinda didn't know what to do with my self, then my friend told me about Subeta and well that was nearly 10 years ago.
I did happen to pop back in around 2008-2009... and ugh trying to do anything on there was a headache. Not to mention when you start trying to chat in the forums it felt like every word you wrote was going against their filters. Needless to say I only stayed for a few days then gave up on it completely.
Yeah, neopets has been going downhill for awhile. I, too, still pop in once and a while (usually to collect bank interest, haha). Anyway, they're gearing up for Altador Cup over there, which is cool, but it has helped remind me how much more active and just in general better the site used to be.
Less neoboard activity than there used to be and it really just does feel pretty dead. I'm really glad that I discovered Subeta. It feels like what neopets could have been had they done some things differently.
Guided by a new era, Sailor Neptune acts with grace!
I'm riahrulez on neo if anyone would like to add me~
I love all my pets so so much, but I just want to delete all my accounts and give away my pets and my stuff, but I can't... apparently the passwords i wrote down are wrong (guess I changed them at one point) and I don't get any emails when I request them... and when i try to contact support i just get to the login page again .__. All my pets have good names and colors, I just wish someone who was really into it could get them :/
The last time I played Neopets I was 14 and I was only on there for three years.I stopped playing because I was sick of all of the cookie grabbers, unhelpful staff and being reported for no reason.I feel like the staff doesn't care about their user base very much seeing as how they'll freeze your account and usually won't try that hard to help you.The filters are also pretty ridiculous.I always found it stupid how it was against the rules to mention any website other than Neopets.
I'm not a fan of the community.A lot of the people on the forums are either rude kids of immature adults.People on their always equate you account age to your actual age.So if you have a 2 year old account people will assume you're 7 and treat you like an idiot.I've heard some Neopets fans say that they don't like Subeta's community because it's filled with "edgy teens".I'd rather deal with a bunch of edgy teens on a site where the staff has good communication with their users than a ton of report happy users and people who ridicule you for the pettiest reasons on a site where the staff rarely communicates with their users and is filled with hackers.
I joined Subeta not long after I quit Neopets and I was completely amazed to see the staff regularly on the forums talking to people.Neopets was the only other petsite I had really played before so seeing such an involved staff was unusual to me.I've been on here for almost 7 years now.
Neo has honestly gone so far downhill I'll probably never go back. My account is about 14 years old now, and I wish it was fun to play still, but the Neo staff doesn't seem to give a shit about any of their players; they just want the money. I played on and off since I was 10, and I'm 24 now.
My account got hacked and frozen, and it took me over 2 MONTHS to get a reply from TNT. I sent in a ticket from my side account, emailed, and messaged their Facebook page. When I finally got someone to reply, all they said was they couldn't give me my account back because I couldn't remember the password to the email my dad used to create the account for me 14 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS 10 YEARS OLD. Eventually they worked with me and I got it back. I was so mad and annoyed at that point, I didn't even know if I wanted to continue.
I stayed for a while, and then took a few months hiatus. When I came back (a few weeks ago), I was on for literally like 10 minutes, and someone hacked my account, put my UC pet in the pound, and froze my account. By this point I was just done. It's not worth it when the staff doesn't care enough to help. Plus it was so difficult to have a conversation because their filters were so strong. My account got silenced for two weeks once just for typing "bf".
ON THE BRIGHTER SIDE! I've been on Subeta for almost 5 and a half years, and I LOVE IT. The staff cares so much and they reply so quickly, with legitimately helpful responses. The user base is waaaay nicer than the elitist attitude on Neo, also. It's a lot easier to reach goals here, the art is a lot better, and the events are incredibly creative and fun! Plus I really love how you never have to spend real money here and you can have the items you want because of the sP to CSC exchange. I know CSC is a lot more expensive these days, but still having the option is great. I could go on about the great things of Subeta, so Neo can just eat dirt loool
I probably spend too much time on Neopets. I really like developing my characters there, especially since, unlike on Subeta, I can dress them, which is sort of nice when trying to come up with a design, since I don't have to start from scratch.
I got the urge to play the Flash games again, but I don't like what Jumpstart has done with the site. Hopefully things improve under Netdragon. The site could use some better artists (RIP they fired the good ones) and programmers to fix all the stuff that's broken.

neopets is overrun by pay-to-play shit and UC trading. I play a little around with customization and some of the flash games to kill boredom though. I'm sitting on a giant stone goose egg of NP for nothing at this point. weird you can find draiks in the pound these days.
