The daughter of the Moon
Face Claim: Emilia Clarke
Name: Valerie Valyria
Age: 30 years old, but her lineage is one-hundred eighty years old.
Race: Númenórean
Gender: Female
Appearance: She has long blonde hair that shines silver in the moonlight. Styled with soft waves and often lose, with braids that connect at the back of her head with beaded hair clasps. There always seems to be a peculiar air around her. Her eyes are aquamarine with a golden ring around the pupils. She stands at a height not much taller than of a dwarf, and since nobody knows of her Númenórean lineage, nobody suspects her to be anything but a petite human. Her body is finely honed and trained with feminine curves. Her spine has trails of old scars from the time when she was kept hostage and tortured.
Personality: Valerie is fierce as well she is stubborn, her life made her grow into a strong and independent woman, as well she's loyal and carries a gentle-heart. She holds a silver tongue, she is very artistic, and passionate about a great many things, such as riding horseback as she grew up with ponies from her farm. She enjoys good sword fencing, but mostly music by playing the piano which her grandmother taught her how to master. When Valerie cares for someone she cares for them fiercely, as she has experienced enough loss in her life to never want to feel it again.
History: Valerie used to live with her father and grandparents peacefully on their farm, she didn't have the chance to know her mother, who was one of the last Númenóreans, she passed away shortly after giving childbirth which meant for Valerie to be raised by her father and grandparents, but it was without any difficulty. Their family wasn’t Noble, however, her family’s name used to be Nobel many years ago but history turned into legends among many other things. Valerie’s father and grandparents had no relations to the King nor to the Lord, they were wealthy and independent on their own. With a lot of work for their land and the house and with the farmyard living peacefully in the open landscape with an array of different animals. Doing well for themselves to have a large house, with farmhands to help with the animals and the field.
The day when the young prince of Erebor, Thorin, and his people had lost their home and Kingdom to the fire-drake, Smaug. Valerie was still in her young youth, as so was the Dwarf Prince, Thorin himself. The Dwarf Prince and his kin roamed the lands in the hope to find shelter, and that's when Valerie and her family sheltered as many dwarves as they could on their farm, where they provided food and comfort.
The days turned into years the Dwarves of Erebor had found a new home in the Blue Mountains to live their lives anew still with the haunting memory of the Fire-drake and those who they lost in the hell-fire. These peaceful times at Valerie's farm would come to an end soon, however, as a man who held high titles had grown stronger of power and lands of Rohan, he grew madly infatuated with Valerie as she grew into a beautiful woman. In his attempts to make her his concubine, Valerie's father defended her and opposed the Lord. The Lord called his guards to slay her father, and they did just that in front of her very eyes.
As punishment for not reciprocating his feelings, the mad Lord slew the rest of her family and friends burned their farm down, and chained Valerie deep in the castle dungeons, only to be brought to him at his bedside when he asked. She never complied, and always fought back as hard as she could, but the mad Lord was so madly infatuated that he couldn't bring himself to kill her.
The day came when Valerie was being whipped by the dungeon guards for not obeying her lord, that she screamed in such agony that the great spirit of Akandir woke inside of her very being. In a blind fury, Valerie used the sliver of power granted to her, melted the chains that bound her, then burned the guards from inside their guts. Akandir's pleas for Valerie to calm down reached her only after the woman had burned down the castle and killed all its guards. However, the mad Lord himself was not present in his room and for this reason, Valerie's thirst for revenge still lingered in her heart, even after she stumbled out of the smoldering castle and onto the open plains of Rohan.
Mithrandir, also known as Gandalf the Grey, found her beneath a rocky outcrop. She was dressed in rags, revealing the still open wounds on her back. Ash covered her body and the wizard could observe clouds of smoke that boomed upwards on the horizon. He picked up the unconscious woman and draped her in his robes, determined to nurse the young woman back to health with help from the powerful healing by Lord Elrond.

The Knight of the Wolf.
Face Claim: Henry Cavill
Name: Razjaralor, Rash.
Age: 35 years old, but he is as old as Arda itself.
Race: A Maia
Gender: Man
Appearance: Dark raven hair that reaches just his shoulder-length, he has it tied to keep it from his green-colored eyes. He has strong cheekbones and chin, he has a very masculine appearance. He stands a bit taller than the average height of a human and elf – he certainly towers over most.
Personality: Rash is pragmatically in dealing with things sensibly. At first, he can seem to be crude when he is taking distance from people but he has his reasons for him to not let out his true identity; as he knows there are some who serve Sauron lurking in the shadows of Middle-earth. Time make him loosen up with people, however, he is a quiet man with few words, but when befriending him, Rash is kind, unselfish, and wise from seeing the pure madness from Melkor, and the fall of Sauron, he is loyal to a fault and will follow those who ask to the ends of Middle-Earth if that ensures their safety.
History: Razjaralor was created by Ilúvatar before the music of the Ainur also known as The Great Music, and The Great Song. A Maiar who had seen much and been most part of his existences with the spirits to Guard Mithrandir, or most common by his name Gandalf. Gandalf the grey. The Wizard also has his duties on Middle-earth as Rash was given the order to keep a watchful eye and to protect one of the Istari; five of them which are; Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast, Alatar, and Pallando. But Alatar and Pallando have Gandalf forgotten, however not Rash, he remembers their names but he doesn't know where they are. Another spirit who was a watcher with Rash was at the time Akandir, however, she has her own tale to tell. But Gandalf knows Rash well by now, and he is thankful for his aid, and also to have a pair of extra eyes, and ears over Middle earth.
Razjaralor's past was not forgotten to him, he fought alongside Akandir among a great many other spirits in the first creations of the songs and the great battles yet to come to save Arda from the great madness against Melkor also known as Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. And even the fall of Sauron and the battle against him as he was tilted as the Servant of Morgoth, and the one Ring which he had slipt his soul into, the one ring to rule them all. Sauron was defeated but and the darker forces of the earth when the ring was lost and forgotten grew in the shadows of the lands. History becomes legends, and legends become myths. But the Maiar still kept to the lands and made sure they were safe as his soul and life are bound to the greater Lords, Rash was summoned back to fulfill his duty when the darkness was at bay by the Guardians of Middle-earth.
Razjaralor is known to be the Knight with the White Wolf, known as the Maia Akandir saving Arda he earned the title of the Watcher of Middle-earth. Besides Akandir there are a few others who know him well enough; Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Lord Elrond, who also are his friends. They are all destined with the same fate as themselves. But, other souls on Middle-earth might not have heard or read about his story which was only written in buried books of old; but the legends about him are still told, tales of history that turned into legends and the legends that turned into myths among many other great things, some things that should never have been forgotten. Later in the peaceful years, the Knight would watch the fireworks created by Gandalf from the distance of the Shire.
It was pure chaos. The dwarves were everywhere, completely occupying the home of Bilbo Baggins. Frenetically, he tried to reason with them, but they just wouldn't have it. They started tossing plates toward the dinner table, and Bilbo made a worried face. Again and again, he tried to tell them to stop, how valuable that one plate was or how he didn't have food. Through his cupboards they went & his storage they completely ransacked.
In the background, there was a very old man. Or what people would commonly see as an old man. The difference between this old man & other old men was that he had more than a footlong beard. His eyebrows were brushy & his face was stern. His clothing seemed to be something resembling a robe. And then, he had a hat. A wizards hat.
He was called Gandalf the Grey, Mithrandir - The grey wanderer. He had been everywhere, he had seen almost everything. And so, he chose to visit Bilbo, because he knew Bilbo would be the key to saving Middle-Earth. How did he know? Dare say, he didn't really know why himself. But he had his suspicions on who or what was telling him.
"Bilbo, my friend. Don't get jittery, they're just having a bit of fun! Why don't you join in preparing for the feast?" He towered over the little Hobbit & smiled with a childish smirk that stretched from ear to ear.
But Bilbo only seemed more annoyed.
Among the Dwarves, there was another guest who had gone unnoticed by Bilbo. A woman with blonde hair elegantly styled with loose waves and braids connecting at the back of her head with silver beaded hair claps. Her clothes are of rich fabrics, by the shoulders and bust there are small fine details, with square shoulders there is a cape that is removable and attached, she has easy to move in pants that are tugged down into her boots
She stood in the hall of the kitchen of Mr. Baggin's home aware of how the Dwarves all prepared for the feast. However, the woman wasn't observing the chaos as she was preoccupied with the structure of the hobbit-hole called Bag End. She gently slid her fingers across the stone wall next to the small window. It felt warm and smooth. The woman looked out of the window, observing the green hills of the Shire. This is where she liked it, where she was reminded of home.
Her head was crowned with a light color of blonde hair that shone like silver threads in the moonlight. Her eyes were of a magnificent blue with a golden ring around the pupils giving her a mesmerizing look. Her height wasn't taller than that of a Dwarf she melted perfectly in by their kin, and of the people of Middle-Earth often mistook her for a child when they first laid eyes on her. For all intents and purposes, she was an adult with the look of a thirty-year-old. In reality, however, something about her eyes spoke of ancient history.
Valerie had been observing the home of Bilbo Baggins, and the peaceful hills over the Shire. However, she had overheard Mr. Baggin's and Gandalf's conversation. Knowing from what Bilbo told the wizard he wasn't entirely happy to have unwanted guests in his home. She understood his reasons as he was frustrated over the twelve dwarves who had completely occupied his home without his permission. Valerie stepped closer to the Wizard and the Hobbit who both turned their attention to the woman. Gandalf gave her a smile, And even the Hobbit seems to calm his nerves as he saw her from just earlier he had an outburst.
Bofur who was one of the dwarves had called from the dining table for everyone to come and sit down and eat together. Bilbo let out a deep sigh but followed where they all were waiting.
Gandalf followed the hobbit and the woman, she was however not doing anything in Bilbo's dislike. Bilbo had almost forgotten that she was here by all the Dwarves, who were getting all of his attention made him wonder who she was.
Plenty of food was already served on the dining table and all of the Dwarves have taken their seats around the large dining table.
The woman joined them by the table taking her seat, she had always enjoyed their spirit and they showed her respect and kindness as some of them were old enough who remembers her. Balin was one who clearly remembers the day when they were homeless, starving, and wandering in exile. The Dwarf had moved and made space for Valerie to sit next to him by the table with a kind gesture for her to take her seat.
They had a long journey ahead for them so food, good company, and some sleep were quite enough for the woman to feel relaxed for the night. However their host couldn't eat or rest for that matter, he took little time to breathe and settled down. In fact, he was too distressed over how the Dwarves had emptied all his food from his pantry, he had nothing left for himself.
"After all these years our paths have crossed again. I'm not the only one who is in awe to see you again Valerie." Balin smiled at her, his smile reaching from ear to ear. It had indeed been many years since they last saw each other since the days at her farm, much since then had happened. ”It's an honor to be here with your Kin, Balin. We have known one another for longer than most can count, after all these years here we are." Valerie reassured, over sixty years since their stay at her family’s farm they have reunited again for a reason and also with a little help by the Wizard. They began to eat the served food while sharing a few old memories and tales of old and new adventures they had been a part of.
"We're going to kick your tenant out. His rent is overdue." Valerie kept the light conversation it produced a soft partly suppressed laugh from the Dwarves. The dragon had stayed in Erebor for far too long and it was time to march to take back Erebor before other eyes would be set on their Kingdom. Their empty chalices got filled by fresh Ale soon as Fili passed by them, he was serving over the table for everyone. "He sure has and we will. You're not like everyone else, Val. You owe us nothing still you give us your aid and help once again, we cannot thank you enough." Balin knew that they needed her mindset and way of thinking to go through with this quest. When they left her farm she even made their Kin a promise; they would see one another again.
"I know you Kin would have done the same for me. We all try to stay true to our word, my friend. With enough people who make false promises word loses its meaning." Valerie told him honestly as she was. ”We don't forget our allies. Aye lass, if more people would be true to their word this world would be merrier for many." Balin nodded, they shared their individual adventures and history since they were separated. Balin asked her about the farm and if they could pay it a visit during the adventure but Valerie told him what had befallen of the home that had kept the Dwarves sanctuary. The dark and tragic past of her family that shocked the Dwarf, and what the woman before him had been through was true hardship not so easily overcome. But he saw her in a light much brighter from knowing what she had been through. Balin knew that there was one among them who could mirror his feelings by spending time with her again. Which are much familiar with losing family, home, and living in exile.
There Balin himself raised his chalice of Ale and Valerie followed with hers, as the two made a toast of reuniting and honor.
There was a knock. Then a second one, then a third one. The knocks were consecutive with precise timing. Bilbo rose from his chair, seemingly irritated.
"How many are there, Gandalf? The food won't be enough if there keeps coming even more dwarves." He grumpily hurried over to the door & opened it slowly.
The dwarf he had expected standing at the door was taller than he expected. Much taller, almost the same height as Gandalf. It was no dwarf however, but a human. He was clad in slim armor. Plates that almost seemed etched to his skin, and leather covering parts of his outfit. He had fur covering on his back to keep him warm, and a cape-like coat that fell around his body.
His eyes were glaring at the hobbit, expecting something. His eyes were light-green & almost made the man look mischiveous.
"Uh, is there anything i can do for you? You might be at the wrong door." Bilbo said worryingly.
The man walked past him & took his place behind Gandalf, leaning against the wall.
Bilbo closed the door and locked it, he followed back to the dining room. "Pardon me, but who are you?" The Hobbit looked up at the man who got a seat next to the wizard. Gandalf asks Bilbo to fix a plate for the young man, who just attended and Bilbo did so. ”Excuse me, sorry that I interrupt. But what should I do with my plate?” Ori asked Bilbo, after when they all had eaten the food. ”Give it to me, Ori.” Fili took the plate from Oris's hands, and with that, he throws it behind him, to where his younger brother, Kili who was at a far distance and caught the plate. This made Bilbo's face turn white like he had seen a ghost. Kili then throws it to the drawer in the kitchen, which was Bifur. He stood by the sink and cleaned every single plate, fork, and knife.
The dwarves who were left by the table begun to make music of the knives and forks, while they stomped their feet on the floor. ”Please, do not do that! You will bend them!” Bilbo spoke aloud and talked about the knives, but the dwarves didn't really care about the hobbit protest. ”Oh, you hear that lass? He said we will bend the knives.” Bofur said with a grin on his face, while the others laughed. Valerie chuckled with Balin who sat next to her, watching the song and dwarves having a little bit of fun.
”Blunt the knives, bend the forks!” Kili begun to sang while he caught more plates and bowls. ”Smash the bottles and burn the plates!” Fili continued, ”Chip the glasses and crack the plates! That’s what Bilbo Baggings hates!" Bofur sang with a wide grin on his face. "Cut the cloth, tread on the fat Leave the bones on the bedrom mat Pour the milk on the pantry floor, slash the wine on every floor! Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl! Pound them up with a thumping pole! When you're finished if they are whole! Send them down the hall to roll! That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!” The all dwarves were singing together, Valerie and Gandalf chuckled at this scene. In the end, everything was cleaned, and not a single damage was seen, to Bilbo's surprise, he stood frozen and looked at the plates, bowls, and glasses upon each other, on a table in the kitchen. Gandalf smoked his pipe and chuckled at the hobbit's overreaction.
Then a sudden harsh knock was heard from the door, three times. Everyone was quiet and they seem to know who it was this time. ”He is here.” Gandalf spoke and everyone walked to the door. Gandalf opened the small door and in comes a dwarf, he was tall to be one. He is the last one of them to be here tonight. He is wearing a grey fur coat over his shoulders, he has shoulder lenght dark brown hair, with some lighter grey highlights in it. He had a stern look on his face but smiled when he saw Gandalf in the door opening and the others who welcomed him.
”Gandalf.” Thorin spoke and walked inside the hobbit hole, he gets off his fur coat and handled his swords over to his friend Dwalin. ”I thought you said this place would be easy to find. I lost my way twice. If it weren't for the mark on the door, I’d still be roaming around here.”
”Mark?” Bilbo asked confused, facing Thorin and Gandalf. ”Excuse me, but there is no mark on my door. I just had it painted a week ago!” The hobbit exclaimed angrily.
”Master Begins, there indeed is a mark on the door, which I craved in myself.” Gandalf spoke with unease, Bilbo gasped looking very shocked. Gandalf then introduced Bilbo to Thorin.
Thorin was more than glad that they went on around. And he couldn't be grateful when he laid his eyes on Valerie. ''Lady Valerie. It is good to see you again. It feels like fate." He said and looked at her with a nod. "The honor is mine." She answered him, with a slight nod of her head. ''I take it you're not our Burglar?''Thorin said with an amused smile on his face, as Valerie chuckled looking at the Hobbit. Gandalf cleared his mouth there and stepped in, ''Bilbo Baggins, let me introduce you to the leader of our company. Thorin Oakenshield.''
Thorin turned his eyes to what their Burgular Gandalf had chosen. ”So this is the hobbit.” Thorin said, circling Bilbo like a hawk. ”Have you done any fighting Mr. Baggins?” He asked him. ”Pardon me?” Bilbo questioned clearly confused. ”Axe or sword, what is your weapon of choice?” Thorin asked, puffing his chest out at Bilbo. "If you most know, I do have some skill in Conkers," Bilbo exclaimed proudly. ”I fail to see why that’s relevant.” Bilbo added.
”Thought as much, he looks more like a grocer than a burglar.” Thorin said, snickering mockingly. Everyone including Gandalf laughed at that, except for Valerie. Who found it dastardly to laugh at someone who isn't used to fighting.
During the hijincks & singing, the quiet man kept his silence. He just sat next to Gandalf, observing the events. Bilbo kept shifting his eyes to the man who hadn't introduced himself yet.
"Pardon me, but who are you?" Bilbo tried without success. The man kept his mouth shut, but almost seemed to nod at Bilbo with sympathy.
After Thorin entered the door, everyone fell silent. The dwarves were very happy to see their rightful king once more. The human female seemed to be an emotional person, making her distaste known for Thorin's cruel statements. Bilbo turned his head to Valerie & smiled shyly to her, accepting of her defense.
After Gandalf had asked everyone to sit down in order for talks, he spoke anew. "Before we begin, I would like to introduce everyone to this man." The wizard opened his palm and pointed to the armored man in the corner.
"This is Rash. Or at least, that's the name I've given him since he won't let me out of his sights. I think he is a bodyguard or an assassin. Either way, he's never been far away from me. He's always kept me protected."
Bilbo looked worryingly at Gandalf. "So, you're saying you don't know him? Did you find him somewhere?"
Gandalf chuckled, smoked his pipe & continued. "Rash found me. And I do know him, I know his intention. That is to protect me. And his protection we will need for our journey."
Bilbo's eyes widened. "Journey?"
Gandalf introduced the new unknown man, Rash to everyone. There were questions and the dwarves begun to whisper to one another about who he really was. Everyone thought he seemed to be mysterious, he was not an open book to read.
They all sat around the dining table and Gandalf showed Thorin and the others a map he had with him, which will lead them to Erebor. The wizard also handed over a key to Thorin. Which will open the hidden door to the mountain. Thorin asked how Gandalf had gotten this key, Gandalf told him he got it from Thorin's father, for safekeeping.
“If there is a key, there must be a door,” Fili spoke, Gandalf points at runes on his map with his pipe. “These runes speak of a hidden passage to the lower halls.” He said, ”There’s another way in!” Kili happily spoke and the wizard nods. ”If we can find it. Dwarf doors are invisible when closed. The answer lies hidden somewhere in this map and I do not have the skill to find it. But there are others in Middle-earth who can. The task I have in mind will require a great deal of stealth, and no small amount of courage. But, if we are careful and clever, I believe that it can be done.”
“That’s why we need a burglar.” And eyes lend over to the hobbit. “And a good one, too. An expert, I’d imagine.” Bilbo said, Gloin glared at him, “And are you?” He asked in a cold tone. Bilbo raised his eyebrow, at the confusing matter. “Am I what?” He asked, “He said he’s an expert! Hey hey!” Oin yells out with a laugh, the hobbit pointed a finger to himself, “Me? No, no, no. I’m not a burglar. I’ve never stolen a thing in my life.” He honestly said, “I’m afraid I have to agree with Mr. Baggins. He’s hardly burglar material.” Balin adds Bilbo nods in agreement. “Aye, the wild is no place for gentlefolk who can neither fight nor fend for themselves,” Dwalin said, Bilbo continues nodding in agreement, the dwarves begin arguing. Gandalf, growing angry he rises to his full height and casts darkness over the group as starts speaking in a darker tone to his voice. The others stop in awe.
“Enough! If I say Bilbo Baggins is a burglar, then a burglar he is.” Gandalf then goes back to his normal self and sits down. “Hobbits are remarkably light on their feet. In fact, they can pass unseen by most if they choose. And while the dragon is accustomed to the smell of dwarf, the scent of the hobbit is all but unknown to him, which gives us a distinct advantage. You asked me to find the fourteenth member of this company, and I have chosen Mr. Baggins. There’s a lot more to him than appearances suggest, and he’s got a great deal more to offer than any of you know, including himself. You must trust me on this.” Gandalf said and Thorin nods.
“Very well. We’ll do it your way. Give him the contract.” Thorin spoke and eyed Balin who had the contract. “Alright, we’re off!” Bofur said, Bilbo begins objecting to Thorin and Gandalf, but they ignore him. Balin hands Bilbo a long contract.
“It’s just the usual summary of out-of-pocket expenses, the time required, remuneration, funeral arrangements, so forth,” Balin said and Bilbo read the first lines. “Funeral arrangements?” As Bilbo steps back a few feet to read the contract, Thorin leans toward Gandalf and whispers to him. “I cannot guarantee his safety.” Gandalf nods sadly. “Understood.” He said. “Nor will I be responsible for his fate,” Thorin added, the wizard nods again. “Agreed.”
“‘Cash on delivery, up to but not exceeding one-fourteenth of total profit, if any.’ Hmm. Seems fair. ‘The present company shall not be liable for injuries inflicted by or sustained as a consequence thereof including but not limited to lacerations ... evisceration … incineration?” Bilbo read out loud and took a deep breath. ”I feel a bit faint.” He said and hold himself to the wall from not to lose balance. ”Think furnace with wings.” Bofur grinned, with his pipe in his hand. “Air, I need air.” Bilbo spoke to himself, “Flash of light, searing pain, then Poof! you’re nothing more than a pile of ash.” Bofur spoke to the hobbit who breathes heavily, trying to compose himself as the others stare at him.
"Are you alright Bilbo?" Valerie spoke from her seat and eyed the hobbit. “No.” Bilbo falls on the floor in a faint. “You’re very helpful, Bofur.” Gandalf sighed and eyed the dwarf.
The old wizard helped Bilbo, he gives him a mug of warm tea when he woke up. He told Bilbo that he also is a Took, and he has it in his blood for adventures. But the hobbit seems to have made his mind to not join this journey. The others were a bit everywhere in the hobbit hole.
Bilbo woke up from his bed, only remembering the dwarves singing that still rang in his ears. A sweet tone for sure, one not to be forgotten soon. The young Hobbit wondered why his house was so quiet. Were the dwarves sleeping? He rose from his bed and made his way through his house. The company he had the day before was nowhere to be seen.
"Gandalf! Thorin? Valerie!" He shouted, then he ran outside. There were no horses, no traces of the dwarven company or Gandalf. But he knew trails, and a trail they had left. So he packed a few of his things & went off, running like a madman.
"We should wait." The man nicknamed Rash said. He turned his face to Gandalf & stared for a long while.
"Ah, yes. But the company couldn't wait for him. Though i'm sure everything will be alright in the end." The old wizard spoke wisely and with a smile on his lips.
As the company rode on horseback through the large woods located next to the shire, they could hear birdsongs & smell fragrant flowers blooming in the spring. Valerie was enjoying the quiet calm & the relaxing smell, just as she could hear a curious voice.
"Thorin, Gandalf! Waaaait!" A small shouting echoed through the woods. A very small figure came rushing from behind them. Gandalf, Thorin & Valerie turned their heads. All the other dwarves turned on their horses & started laughing.
The man known as Rash jumped down from his horse and started wandering towards Bilbo. The curious little Hobbit tripped, and Rash caught him in the chest before he fell forward.
"You need to steady your feet when you run, little friend." The man half-smiled. Bilbo looked up with sweat on his brow. He nodded in gratitude.
Bilbo holds the contract in his hand, and thanked Rash for his help before he would have fallen in the dirty grass. "I signed it!” Balin takes the contract and inspects it with a pocket glass. He then smiles at Bilbo. “Everything appears to be in order. Welcome, Master Baggins, to the company of Thorin Oakenshield.” Balin smiled and the dwarves cheer. "I know you would come." Valerie smiled at Bilbo, who smiled back at her. But Thorin doesn’t look too impressed when the hobbit had returned.
”Give him a pony.” Thorin spoke, “No, no, no, that won’t be necessary. I’m sure I can keep up on foot. I- I- I’ve done my fair share of walking holidays, you know. I even got as far as Frogmorton once, -” Bilbo’s speech is cut off as two of the dwarves ride alongside him and pick him up from behind to put him on a pony. Bilbo is riding a pony and looking quite terrified. The pony neighs and tosses its head, making him quite uncomfortable. “Come on, Nori, pay up.” Oin spoke, while Nori tosses a sack of money to Oin, sacks of money begin passing between the dwarves.
“What’s that about?” Bilbo asked who rides next to Gandalf, “Oh, they took wagers on whether or not you’d turn up. Most of them bet that you wouldn’t.” The wizard said, “What did you think?” Bilbo asks, then Gandalf catches a sack of money tossed to him and puts it in his bag. “My dear fellow, I never doubted you for a second.” He smiled at the hobbit.
The company has camped for the night near the edge of a cliff. Bilbo couldn't sleep, he decides to walk around. Most of the dwarves are asleep. But not Gandalf, Rash, Valerie, Kili, and Fili are still all awake. Bilbo walks over to his pony and gives her an apple, after checking to see that no one is looking. “How are you, girl? That’s a good girl. It’s our little secret, Myrtle, you must tell no one.” Bilbo hears a strange noise in the night air and becomes worried. He runs over to the campfire the dwarves were huddled by.
“What was that?” He asked, “Orcs.” Kili replied, looking at the view where the sound comes from, Thorin, who was dozing, jerks awake upon hearing the word Orcs.
“Orcs?” Bilbo asked a bit afraid, “throat-cutters. There’ll be dozens of them out there. The lowlands are crawling with them.” Fili spoke and eyed the fire, then the hobbit. “They strike in the wee small hours when everyone’s asleep. Quick and quiet, no screams just lots of blood.” Kili said, Bilbo looks away in fright while Fili and Kili look at each other and begin laughing.
“You think that’s funny? You think a night raid by orcs is a joke?” Thorin asked in an angry tone, he walks up to them. “We didn’t mean anything by it.” Kili said and lowered his eyes, “No, you didn’t. You know nothing of the world.” Thorin said angry at his nephews and walks off to the edge of the cliff and looks out over the valley.
Balin walks up to the young dwarf princes, “don’t mind him, laddie. Thorin has more cause than most to hate orcs. After the dragon took the Lonely Mountain, King Thror tried to reclaim the ancient dwarf kingdom of Moria. But our enemy had got there first.” Balin spoke and rest his back against the stone wall behind him.
Balin told them the story when Moria had been taken by legions of Orcs, and their race leader Azog who had sworn to wipe out the line of Durin. He began by beheading the King. Thrain, Thorin's father, was driven mad by grief and went missing, taken prisoner or killed. They were leaderless and defeat and death were upon them. But when Thorin faced down the Pale Orc, he stood alone against this terrible foe, his armor rent, wielding nothing by an oaken branch as a shield. forces rallied and drove the orcs back. Our enemy had been defeated. But there was no feast, nor song, that night, for our dead were beyond the count of grief. They were very few who had survived but they had a new leader.
“And I thought to myself then, there is one who I could follow. There is one I could call King.” Balin smiled, Thorin turns away from the view beyond the cliff, the entire company is awake and standing in awe, staring at him. Thorin walks between them toward the bonfire. “But the pale orc? What happened to him?” Bilbo asked, “He slunk back into the hole whence he came. That filth died of his wounds long ago.” Thorin replied. Then the night grew and the company, mostly the dwarves began to tell old stories.
Gandalf sat and smoke his pipe, Rash was with him. The two of them had overheard their conversation of the son of Durin's past. Gandalf heard how Thorin believed that the Orc Azog was dead, and he had ended the orcs life years ago. But Gandalf knew that wasn't truly the case.
Gandalf puffed a Cloud of smoke, exhaling slowly. He seemed to be in deep thoughts. His eyes were fixed on a point får away in the dark distance of the night.
Bilbo walked away from the group of dwarves and approached the old Wizard & his ever so silent Guard.
"Have you ever had Old toby tobacco before, dear friend?" Gandalf shifted his eyes to the tall, armored man standing at Guard. However, "Rash" didn't respond. He kept still as a statue. The Old Wizard looked back to the dark silhoutte covering the horizon.
"Ofcourse not. That mouth of yours only open when eating absurd amounts of lembas bread or when to bite something that bites back." Gandalf said with a mocking tone as Bilbo approached from behind.
The large, armored man grunted, seemingly unamused. Bilbo walked up next to him, standing between Gandalf & the large man.
"Were you always this silent?" he asked. The man only kept staring at the horizon.
"I mean, you haven't said a single thing since we left shire." The man kept quiet. Bilbo looked åt Gandalf.
"He's under oath, is he not? He has to be." he looked with curious eyes to the Wizard.
Gandalf puffed another cloud of smoke from his pipe. "Not under any oath of mine, my young hobbit."
A large shadow moved from a far distance. Rash grabbed the hilt of his greatsword and squeezed it. He seemed to tense every muscle in his body.
Gandalf rose up from the rock he was seated on & out away his pipe.
"Friends, we have to move." The old Wizard said with worry in his voice.
Gandalf walks up to the group to the thirteen sleeping dwarves, a halfling and a woman. Who all slept next to the bonfire which had died out. Gandalf wakes everyone up by raising his voice and soon eyes were open and grunts when waking up.
"Gather up your things now, and we will leave at once," Gandalf said and some of the dwarves begun to complain over the fact Gandalf wanted to leave at once. They had just gotten here, even Thorin asked Gandalf what was the matter but the wizard only said "It's not safe out here, in the middle of the night. I know a place where we can stay for our safety." Thorin didn't want to know who those people might be, which Gandalf spoke about. But the son of Durin didn't protest, he gathered his things up and made his pony ready.
But the hours passed by and soon the company was riding their ponies into through a muddy forest as it rains. They all look cold, wet, and miserable.
“Mr. Gandalf, can’t you do something about this deluge?” Dori asked surly annoyed by the weather, none of them did know that Orcs has been spying on them during the night. “It is raining, Master Dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done. If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard.” Gandalf replied, Dori, let out a deep sigh in disappointment. ”Are there any?” Bilbo asked. ”What?” The wizard confused looked at Bilbo, who rides on horseback next to him, ”Other wizards?” Mr. Baggins asked again, “There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman, the White. Then there are the two Blue wizards. You know, I’ve quite forgotten their names.” Gandalf spoke. “And who is the fifth?” Valerie asked, who has been quiet and listening to their conversation. “Well, that would be Radagast, the Brown,” Gandalf replied with a smile.
“Is he a great Wizard or is he... more like you?” Bilbo asked again and made Gandalf look slightly offended. “I think he’s a very great wizard, in his own way. He’s a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals to others. He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands to the East, and a good thing too, for always Evil will look to find a foothold in this world.” Gandalf explained and by the time the forest where the fifth wizard, Radagast is with his animals as a company, there are already witchcraft and dark magic fallen over the forest and the poor animals. Radagast did everything he could in his power, to drive it off for now. He needed to find Gandalf, and give him the information about this evil which is lingering and powerful.
The company stops by a burned home, which once was a family that had a farmyard. Now nothing was left more than ruins of the house, trolls have been here and it was no safe place to stay at. Thorin didn't want to take another path, Gandalf thought it was madness to stay here, there were trolls nearby them but that didn't change the stubborn son of Durin.
Gandalf stomps off angrily, to his horse and is ready to leave the company. ”Everything alright? Gandalf, where are you going?” Bilbo asked the wizard, who sat upon the horseback. “To seek the company of the only one around here who’s got any sense.” Gandalf said, “Who’s that?” Bilbo asks, “Myself, Mr. Baggins! I’ve had enough of dwarves for one day.” Gandalf said and turned his eyes to Rash, ”Stay with them.” He said and took off. Valerie stood with her pony and petted its mane she did overhear Gandalf's and Thorin's argument over if they should keep moving or staying here. Thorin did not want help from Elves, who seem to be nearby and they had trolls here, how was this night going to end like?
As Gandalf took off, the rest of the company set up camp again. The dwarves seemed to worry, especially Balin who was old, wise & experienced. He looked around the forest with cautious eyes, then spotted Rash standing on a small hill next to the newly set camp. "So i take it you will protect us from any monsters coming to eat us?" He said with a half-jokingly tone while staring at the large human standing lookout. He got no response, only a pair off green eyes peering at him for a second. Then Rash turned his gaze again & looked to the edges of the forest.
Balin grunted, turned his back & walked back to the other dwarves. Thorin was next to the center of the small campfire. Thorin looked at his old friend & advisor while Balin took his seat on the ground.
"The human. I don't trust him. We need somebody else to keep watch." The dwarf-king to be said with a sneering voice.
Balin peeked up at Thorin. "I understand if you're wary my friend. However, if Gandalf trusts him, we'll have to give him a chance. Not that he cares though."
Thorin's eyes wandered for a second, thinking thoughtfully. "Kili! Take that girl with you & stand watch next to Gandalf's bodyguard."
Kili flew to his feet in a second. He seemed abit startled, but nodded & turned to the direction of Rash. "Come then - Valerie, was it? Do you know how to defend yourself if danger arrives?" He looked up questioningly at the tall human girl.
Valerie overheard Thorin & Balin talking about who would hold guard when Gandalf was gone. The knight Rash, who was supposed to stand as a "guard" to the company stood more by himself and said nothing to the others. He didn't give his word that he would be protecting them if need be and with doing so he lost trust from the dwarves. The blonde woman glanced over to Rash and she continues to help the company settle down with a campfire and bedrolls.
Bombur was helping Bofur making the dinner over the bonfire, and the company quickly settled in for the night.
Kili had walked over to where Valerie was placing their bags by a tent where everyone had laid their swords, axes, and other weapons. She grabbed her daggers just in case before they would stand watch. “I can survive well enough on my own if given the proper reading material.” The woman smiled while tugged down a dagger in her boots. "Let's stand watch, my lady." He smiled at her with a nod, and she followed him.
"Tell me more about yourself," Kili was first breaking the silence between the two. Valerie lift her eyes up and looked at him. "I was once a farmer, lived with my family, my father knew Thráin, and sooner come Thorin and the kin to my family's farm, when they were wandering in exile my family and I took them in, sheltered them and gave food and comfort." Valerie smiled at the memory, as her lineage was of a Numenor, Valerie was older than she looked; nearly one-hundred eighty was her true age, but she didn't tell people that due to her humility. Kili understood she stood his kin close in relation and that she had also known Thorin and their kin for several years.
"How long have you been a warrior?" Kili asked while the two kept guard. "Prefer to be a warrior," She let out a troubled sigh. "But the mad lord told people that I was an assassin who worked for him." She was not happy about her past, and Kili could sense there was darkness there. "Assassin?" He asked, she gave a small nod of her head. "I was caught by one of the human Kings, or a former title would be a mad lord from the lands of men, in Rohan."
"He was the man behind my family's death, he kept me as a hostage, locked away in his deepest dungeon, tortured. Until the day I would pledge myself to him to be his assassin. To kill for him and to gain back my freedom. I of course didn't kill for him: I tricked him, and escaped his lands." Kili was actually taken aback, to hear her past have been rough on her and that her own kind did so terrible things to a woman. He knows what her father did, but he didn't know she had been tortured by one of the human kings in Rohan.
Kili stared at Valerie for a short while, then looked down into the ground. "I'm sorry, i had no idea it was that bad. But..." He looked up at her again with a half-smile. "It didn't break you. Here you stand, strong & valiant with a beauty that burns bright. It may sound silly, but i feel blessed in a way, standing next to you."
Now Kili looked into her eyes before shifting his sight down into the grassy ground again. He felt embarassed for saying that sentence, but he was right. The girl called Valerie had incredible prowess & a keen mind, but her beauty made those qualities so much more apparent. When men laid eyes upon her, it was hard to look away, as her long blonde hair shone with each thread & reflected the sunlight that was hiding behind the often-present clouds. Her face was almost elven in nature, with slim features & a soft impression that made her eyes look like they were piercing far & wide in the night sky, visible for hundreds of yards. Her body was almost a pure sin & looked like it had been crafted by gods. The company of Thorin Oakenshield had tried keeping their distance for fear of getting too attached to her, since Valerie's beauty belied the fury of a scorn woman.
But Thorin knew her & appreciated her well. She was a very dangerous woman & he had been in her life ever since she was a small girl. Although they had no blood relations, he would always see her as his niece. But it was hard for him, not to fall in love as most other dwarves, men & elves did. He had to fight himself to keep his hands to himself. Thorin was a man who wanted many things as he was passionate about his desires, but he was also a man of control, and his discipline was legendary.
Thorin sat down on a sack that Bombur had carried. He sharpened his sword with a piece of flint he had in one of his pockets. He looked to Valerie & Kili, conversing at the edge of the camp. He felt a small amount of jealousy as he looked down again. Then he turned his head a little to look at the bodyguard. The huge, statuesque man keeping watch. The one Gandalf called Rash. Thorin was surprised that Rash didn't seem to have any interest in the mission nor the girl with godlike beauty standing 20 feet from him.
"Fili, sharpen my sword - would you." Thorin stood up, tossed his sword & flint to his dwarven companion who looked surprised, and walked over to Rash, who was gazing beyond the trees to the plains.
Rash didn't turn nor react at all when Thorin walked up to his side. "Beautiful view, isn't it?" The dwarf king-to-be said, his eyes feasting upon the twilight that took place on the horizon.
"I suppose you have your reasons for following Gandalf. But i wonder, you are to protect him from harm yet you let him travel in the woods by himself? Wouldn't a bodyguard protect his master?" Thorin kept looking at the sunlight transforming light into different shades of gold as it was going down.
"I am a bodyguard as much as you are the king-under-the-mountain. I see no crown on your head & the old wizard is not here. What more do you wish to tell me?" Rash didn't turn his head, but his voice boomed nonetheless. Thorin almost took a step back out of shock, since he almost believed the man was entirely mute.
Kili & Valerie reacted too, turning around at the same time as the other dwarves in the company. Balin looked at the huge, armored man in the distance. "He speaks!?" Balin uttered. Bilbo looked questioningly at the old dwarf. "He does, but not much it seems. When i tripped, he told me to be more careful with my running."
Balin turned his head to Bilbo and started laughing. "He did?" Bilbo smiled, but he didn't understand what was so funny about it.
Valerie smiled at Kili who gave his kindness, he was right the past he had been through was hard on her, but she had grown into a stronger woman out of it. After the two had their chat by getting to know each other better, Thorin had walked up to where Rash stood, looking out over the beautiful view of the landscape. Rash had said something to Thorin that took Kili and Valerie's attention.
The two walked up to the to-be king and the knight, Thorin who still was in shock from Rash words, and not only shock was spread but anger in the dwarf man. Had Rash forgotten why they all were here? He seems to not care about what he speaks of openly and to who he is speaking. He was right, Gandalf had taken off, and if he was a guard only for the wizard, then he was. Rash had made no promise to anyone here that he would protect them, only had Gandalf said he would try.
The male had been a bit too rash on his words, "do you understand the suffer they all have gone through?" Eyes lend on Valerie, who spoke up, defending the line of Durin. She looked at the tall man Rash, who turned his eyes over to her.
"Look at them, they have lost everything." Her eyes lend over to the other dwarves. Who was left in the camp, Rash also watched them and then he lends his eyes to the girl. "You already know why we're here, to help them reclaim their Kingdom, even if I die during this journey I will die with honor that I got this chance to be part of this quest. And only by helping them means something." Her eyes lend back to Rash, Thorin smiled to hear her kind words and reminded him of her father, who was just the same always kept his word.
"You owe Thorin an apology." She looked up to the tall man. "Even if he doesn't have a crown upon his head yet he still owes your loyalty." She was honest, and it was in fact Rash choice to give his loyalty.
The large knight-like man stared at Valerie for what felt like a long moment, but didn't seem to heed her words very much. He switched his focus to Thorin again & it seemed he raised one of his eyebrows for a short moment, as if to pity the company leader for bringing such a naive girl.
Then he turned his gaze towards the plains beyond the trees again, seemingly forgetting about them. Thorin backed away and walked up to Valerie. As he walked past her, he motioned her to follow him.
"You don't need to stand up for me, girl. Even if it would seem his words are harsh, he's...right. I'm no king yet & from what we can gather from this man, he's no bodyguard. I would suggest that he has ties to Gandalf that none of them have let on yet. But Valerie, please, save those speeches for when we really need it." Thorin spoke to Valerie with a deep tone while glaring at her. The dwarf king always felt annoyed when others would defend his honor when it was not needed.
Kili walked up to Thorin & Valerie as they spoke, "So when someone protects you with truth, you choose to simply throw that shield away & let words cut deep? Clearly her interruption was needed before you took the man's words to heart?" He spoke, with a tone that hinted at a slight irritation with Thorin. At that very same moment, before either Valerie or Thorin had a chance to speak, the ground started rumbling lightly.
Rash cold and harsh attitude was nothing new for Valerie. She had seen it before from men before and she had met cold people like him during her travels. Kili had spoken up to his uncle and stood up for Valerie. Then suddenly the ground began to shake underneath them. Everyone's attention was lent on to the forest. Something was moving from the forest, and it was not too far away from the camp.
"Valerie, go and watch the ponies come back if something gets out of hand." Thorin told the woman trusting her because she was always good around animals, and so with ponies. Then his eyes lend on his sister's son. "Kili, come with me." Thorin walked back to the camp. Kili looked at him with narrowed eyes, he was still clearly angry at his uncle. Then he turned his brown eyes to Valerie, who nods and he returned a small smile to her. Then the blonde left, and Kili followed behind after his uncle.
Valerie had left the camp, and she walked to where the ponies are. She examines the group of ponies when she finds out that some of them are missing. She turns around ready to find the once who's missing, but there stands Bilbo with a bowl of warm soup in his hands.
"Valerie, you need to eat. You have been out here alone for hours." He was worried about her, when he asked Thorin where she was, the dwarf didn't give any reply and left Bilbo a little confused. Kili was also worried to know trolls is out there, and Thorin had sent out Valerie, to watch over the ponies alone. When now it was dangerous to be alone. Sometimes Kili couldn't understand his uncle.
”We had sixteen ponies, but now there’s only fourteen.” Mr. Baggin's eyes went wide and round. "Missing? That's not at all good, not at all. Do you know where they went?" Bilbo looked at the girl, and eyed the ponies who were left. Valerie was deep in thoughts, while she walked to see if they could find hooves marks on the muddy ground. "It's weird have they been taken?" Bilbo still holds the soup in his hands and followed behind Valerie. "Seem like it."
She stops behind a bush, Bilbo next to her. The two see a light, it's a campfire. Around it was two massive mountain trolls and one who walked up to the campfire, while it was carrying a pony under each arm.
"He's got Myrtle and Minty! I think they're going to eat them. We have to do something." Bilbo looked at the poor ponies who were sceard.
"Trolls are stupid and slow. I am smart and quick." She thought, then turning her blue eyes over at Bilbo. "Bilbo goes back to the camp, tell the others. I might not be able to hold three of them for too long." Bilbo shook his head, he didn't want her to go out there alone. But understood it would save them some time. "Wait, Valerie!" Bilbo whispered, but she was already out from the bush and made her way quickly to the ponies, making no sound.
Bilbo nods to himself and ran back to camp, and with heartbeat up to his throat, and hoped Valerie would be alright. He ran into camp, and eyes lend on the small hobbit who breathed heavily for air.
"You give her the food?" Bofur walked up to the hobbit, Bilbo narrowed his eyes and Thorin was walking up to Mr. Baggins and Bofur. "Trolls three of them, had taken our ponies, and now Valerie is out there fighting them," Bilbo spoke and the dwarf's eyes went wide. "Show us the way," Thorin spoke and everyone grabbed their weapons and shields, Bilbo showed the lead.
She drew out one of her daggers and stood quietly by the ponies. The three mountain trolls were to busy talking to one another, and it saved Valerie some time to free all of the ponies. She cut the ropes and they ran into the forest. When she looks up something was wrong, dearly wrong. The trolls had gathered up and stood around her in a circle.
"What is it?" One of the trolls asked the other. "I don't know, but our food is gone because of it." The other replied. "Can we eat it?" The three started to wickedly chuckle, but it sounded more stupid. Valerie holds the sword handles, and squeezes them tight. "Come here!" The troll launched it's arm to hit her, but she dodges the arm fast and quickly. She circled around between their feet, her swords outdrawn and she cut the trolls in their ankles. So the three trolls at the same time cried out in pain and jumped on one foot to hold the one who was hurt.
"It's too fast! Slow it down!"The stupid one of the trolls cried out, "Get her!" One of them yells out annoyed, but then the stupid one began to spin around, the troll launched with its arms all around, even knocking out one of its friends. When the troll was throwing its arms all around, Valerie had to hide from getting hit by the arms, the trolls moved closer to each other made so the path for the assassin was harder to find an escape. Without her knew it, a hand grabbed her and squeeze her tight. The troll had her in its hand, and it was squeezing her tighter when they faced her, she growled in pain and struggle to get free, but it was no use.
"I smell dwarf from you, where are they?" The troll growled, Valerie smirked and looked up at the massive mountain troll. "Not. Telling." This time the trolls all growled louder and squeezing her so a few of her ribs break. The assassin could at that moment hear when the bones broke. Letting out a hellish cry by pain and taking inhale only become harder. At the sound of the dwarves who come out from the bushes and the troll dropped Valerie to the ground, she quickly moved away and saw the men with their swords above their heads.
"Raaaaaaah!" A loud chorus of battlecries could be heard. Thirteen dwarves launched their weapons towards the trolls at the same time, jumping onto their backs & hacking away. Thorin jabbed his sword deep into the back of the troll holding Valerie. It shouted out in pain. Kili jumped from a tree onto the hand in which it held Valerie.
"Let her go, you ugly monster!" He yelled as he stabbed a knife into the side of the troll's fist. As it yelped out in pain again, it let go of it's grip on Valerie. As it flung it's arm around, Valerie flew towards an imminent, hard crash into a tree.
"Valerie!" Kili shouted in a panicked voice as he watched her being thrown like a ragdoll.
thud
Instead of breaking her entire body, she bounced towards something very stale & firm, but soft nonetheless. She could feel arms holding her from behind as she dazingly looked around. Large metal hands let go of her body and shoved her lightly aside. The large, rude man that Valerie had started to dislike earlier, started walking with gigantic steps, armored to the teeth with titanium plating covering his body. He had pulled a hoodie that seemed to be sewn together with the armor & behind him, he pulled a majestic sword, shiny unlike any metal that Valerie had ever seen.
As the dwarves were frantically stabbing at the trolls, Bilbo tried his best at staying away from being trampled.
Rash lifted his sword & let moonlight reflect itself off it's silvery surface, and with it he pointed it towards the trolls, challenging them. They were distracted by the bright light, and stopped swinging at the dwarves. They started charging the armored man as he started doing the same.
The thirteen dwarves had launched towards the three massive trolls. They're attacking the same time, the trolls who are left both, dumbfounded and surprised to see when the crew of dwarves jumped out from the bushes. They began to swung their arms and fisted hands, to the small little figures. Who were running around their feet, and attacking them from everywhere.
It didn't take long before Thorin was behind of the troll and stabbed it from behind with his sword.
With shock, and eyes wide she looks up to see the man which she had learned to dislike, or more so less trust. Who was standing next to her and behind her slowly letting his arms off her. He drew out his sword, it was majestically looking and the metal nothing Valerie ever had seen before. And walked up to the troll, who was also now approaching him too.
Even the shine makes the troll's attention lend to the human man, who was launching over to the three with out drawn sword.
Valerie took out her bow and arrow, the only weapon that she would be a good use for now, by the condition her ribs are in. She stood from a distance in the forest, and she had the target between her eye and arrow. She's the person who ignores pain when she needs to fight. Even since a young age, she couldn't let any attention lend on herself, even if how bad shape she was. Because for her it was her weakness to do so. She was used to training and fight, even if she broke bones or spitted out blood she always stood up again, to show herself that she is not weak.
A large figure shadow-like thing, comes from the distance. It was coming from the top of a large rock, above the clearing.
“The dawn will take you all!” Gandalf's voice was heard, and everyone looked up where the voice was coming from. “Who’s that?” One of the trolls asked, “No idea.” The other replied with a shrug, “Can we eat him too?” The third asked, dumb as it looked like.
Gandalf strikes the rock with his staff, splitting it in half allowing the sunlight behind it to pour into the clearing. When the sunlight touches the trolls’ skin, they begin turning into stone amidst loud screams and howls of pain. Within seconds, there are three stone statues of trolls in the clearing.
All the dwarfs begun to cheer, they were happy to see the old wizard back again.
As the dwarves all dusted themselves off & cheered with joy, Kili hurried his way to Valerie. His face was wraught with worry and as he arrived, the girl knelt down with her hand to her ribs as she moaned in pain.
"Valerie! How is it? Is something broken? Lie down for a minute, please!" The young dwarf panicked, as he put his arm around Valerie's waist & supported her so she could lower herself to the ground. "Help! Somebody, over here!" He yelled, breaking the constant cheering of his dwarven brethren.
Gandalf who had briefly appeared with a majestic shine, was still standing on the rock the he had split. He turned his head as he heard Kili shout & he made an annoyed grimace.
"You fools! The girl is in dire need of care! Yet you stand here with your jaws to the floor. I didn't turn the lot of you to stone too, did i?" The old wizard barked with a booming voice. Yet, help had already arrived. As Kili tried his best putting Valerie down, his height hindered him as he couldn't fully reach around her & as she fainted, the girl slipped outside his grasp. Luckily, an enormous shadow quickly descended to the girls other side, opposite Kili. The plated warrior, Rash, caught her with a careful maneauver not unlike an elven caretaker. Kili was amazed at how graceful the almost titanic warrior proved himself to be.
"Númenórean leaves & seeds, find them." Rash spoke. He turned his gaze from Valerie to Kili. "Kingsfoil, young one. Do you know of it? He kept his piercing stare focused on Kili.
"U-uh, yes. I've seen them before. W-where do i look?" The young dwarf looked with wavering emotions at the titanic man.
"Below the bark of fallen trees. Look for dark spots with white dots." The man motioned for Kili to hurry. The young dwarf took off in a rush, desperately searching for the healing herb that the old Númenórean kings brought with them to middle earth several thousand years ago. The forest was spread thick & the herb, otherwise called 'Athelas', thrived in dark, moist environments.
