Challengers that mutate may be a fun theme, every so many battles they would warp into something more challenging. One to suggest as an alternative to this stress...

Well they do already get more challenging after each win but I think you mean they change more dramatically than that. That could be cool! As long as it's something more than a "you need this specific item" gimmick.

Yeah, sort of along the lines of they develop an immunity to X type of attack in one form, Y type of attack in another, suddenly they have special shielding that needs bringing down, as well as the tougher stats. Maybe with some fun mutated artwork for each stage too!

I could get behind opponents like that if it's possible :o it would be fun. It's sorta like the mama forj opponent trio but instead of three opponents it's all the same one.

It would add a bit of variety for the tougher level battle pets, if it's something that can be done.

Yeah it would allow for them to release some easier challengers that even high tier pets could enjoy. It adds a different dimension.

Another thought, are there any challengers currently that 'split' - so you start off with one, then at some level/battle they break into two clones to fight at the same time? Or would that be too weird?

Yup exactly :p I think morphing opponents could potentially be done. Two at once would take a lot of changes and is too much work

I made him put stripy hazard tape on the corners of the frame as people kept bumping it, but it's still very kickable, apparently...
