Ohhh food talk. I miss the food board in the GA area.
I love cooking but it also gets to be monotonous. More of a cook vs a baker. Tho I make a mean garilc cheesy bread that we call crack bread its so good. Love making Pizzas. Really don't like getting take out Pizzas any more.We mostly get our meats from a meat market with a butcher present. Taste a lot better and the animals are treated humanely. They smoke meats so the flavor kind of melds into every thing. We bought a Delmonico Steak..thick and cut fresh was soooo good that we split in 1/2 for us, 10 Lb bag of Chicken Breasts processed that morning, 10# of lean hamburger meat freshly grinded, plus some really good frozen batter shrimp, hunk of cheddar cheese and butter for almost $100. The taste and smell vs getting from a store is such a huge difference. They do not ground turkey so have to get that at the store. Do often get bone in thighs cause the flavor is so good. We have not had chicken breasts in some time so got that for a change. With the thighs you just pull one bone out and its boneless :)
Love to make stock from Rotisserie Chicken..added flavor boost... and in the crock pot. Throw the carcass in it add however much carrots, celery and onion you want. Better to do those in just a 1/2 cut vs chopped or in pieces so they dont break down cooking. Then I add some garlic and just a wee bit salt. Basil is good to add mostly use dry. Basically can add what you want. I do it for at least 12 hours. Longer the coook the richer the flavor. Add more water if needed just make sure stuff stays coverd I usually have to do it just once. So much better then the already made stuff. Your house smells divine too while it cooks. Call it flavor gold lol
As someone who has to watch what they eat I make a lot of stuff from scratch or use the best most natural made stuff. Pain but its what I have to do.
Meats and Poultry you always have to consider the cooking time while it rests. So it's always best to take things off while they are still a little pink cover and let sit for at least 5 mins before cutting. Always works for me. Steaks are always browned on each side then finished in the oven.
What are you having or had for dinner?
I pretty much missed out on the Survivial this year. Probably wont get much dancing on either. Used to be such an avid player on this site. Sundays are a bit more freer for me so when i usually pop on.
Any one have fun plans for the Spring/Summer?

I'm feeling better today headache wise so far.
yeah if you cook it too fast it'll take the moisture out of it. overcooked beef isn't near as bad as rubbery chicken is though.
Is it time to visit an eye doctor, maybe?
Haha you're not wrong, unless it's in burger form and then sometimes then, too! Yeah, I'm a fan of simpler = better. I eat a lot of raw fruits and veggies because I can't be bothered to cook 'em. Plus chicken's so tasty and cheaper then red meat, it's kind of a no brainer to default to that!
That's my weakness right there - chocolate.
It disagrees with me more often than not, now, because I haven't eaten it for so long. It's like I have to train myself up to digest it properly or something. By all accounts, it's just as well, apparently it's not that great for you in the long run. We're probably better off avoiding it anyway. Hooray for the chickens?
Nah I hate the eye doctor. They always yell at me cuz I can't do the air puff test
Yeah I've heard that too. I still have hamburgers and stuff sometimes, but I've never really been a fan of steak and such anyway so I don't feel like I'm missing out a whole lot. Chicken is great though, and you can still use it for lots of stuff.
I hate the air puff thing, I was just at the eye doctor yesterday for a checkup and I had to redo it a couple of times because I can't keep my eyes open. It sucks. D:
Last time I failed it too many times so they gave me a different test.
Aw. :(
I've never failed it that many times, but I usually always have to have it done at least twice because I either blink or flinch or something. I try not to, but I can't help it my eyes are just sensitive.
you must had pretty bad experience with chicken because i never had chicken tougher than beef :P
haha. i know the laziness 😁 just go to the fridge and grab a banana. no mess. sometimes i just boiled eggs and keep them for days in the fridge. not even bother to reheat them. haha. i like beef better, but they are annoying, so i default to chicken :P
my lazy stock recipe is put in everything i feel and cook them. not even cook, just set on medium and go play games. then if there's still soup left, just add another ingredients later. haha. the flavor do get better over time.
jst thought i'd pop in and of course we're talking about food. i want to learn how to make like, really nice pasta with a pasta maker and stuff, but it just seems like a lot of work idk. i also cant find mizithra cheese anywhere and it's driving me insane.
I blink/flinch a lot. my eyes are squinty and I do not like things being near them.
had it at olive garden like that. if chicken is done wrong, it's about the worst thing you can get. I really like chicken and I eat it often, but beef at its worst is a lot better than chicken at its worst.
I really want to make homemade pasta, but the tools are kind of pricey. I think you can get cheaper ones, but whenever I buy a new kitchen gadget, I really want it to do more than one thing to save counter space. I spent more on buying a pressure cooker/slow cooker combo, but it's great because it does both and I use it often.
Your stock sounds amazing. I haven't made really good chicken stock in a while since I have limited freezer space (roommate problems). Hopefully in my next apartment I can really play around with making really good stock. I use it all the time so it's a pain to buy it or use bouillon cubes. The "better than bouillon" chicken base is pretty good though. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for dinner. About to go to the grocery, so many inspiration will hit there. Otherwise I may pick up pizza or something. There's nowhere good within walking distance though, which is a huge bummer. :/
Yeah, if the technique is wrong, the food gets bad!
Oh, that air-puff eye test is hilarious. I just keep closing my eye!
I love pasta. Not sure I could be bothered making regular, but the ravioli or filled pasta as homemade may be nice.
i feel. i'm not living on my own yet, so it's even harder to justify spending all that money on it because my mom cooks plenty lol. for now i think i'll live with box pasta.
It's tough to justify especially when boxed pasta is really good! I think I'd probably play more with making my own pasta when I have more counter/storage space. I could probably do ravioli now if I was really patient with rolling it out by hand. Maybe sometime over the summer when I visit my parents I'll do that since they have more useable counterspace than I do.
for now ithink i'll just eperiment with sauces and cheese. i ont like tomato sauce, so it gets rough sometimes but i'm finding new stuff all the time. salad dressing on pasta is actually surprisingly good.
I don't use much tomato sauce, but I'm really partial to pesto and some simple Asian-inspired sauces with soy, sesame, and ginger. Other times I'll keep it really basic with just butter, salt, and a touch of lemon if I'm eating it with chicken. I've never tried salad dressings, but a lot of pasta sauces could easily be salad dressings, so it makes sense to go the other way with them. :)
same, I don't know how it's possible for me to do it then the eye doctor people just get angry at me and it's not like I'm trying to blink o_o
pesto sauce is the bomb! i never go through it quickly enough so i dont buy it but it's among my fave kinds of sauces.
Check out your local grocery. A lot of them make fresh pesto that freezes really well so it lasts MUCH longer. The first time you use it once it's frozen if kind of tough because you have to try to cut off a piece of ice, but after that it's much easier. I use it pretty regularly in my usual dinner rotation. It's great on veggies and chicken too, so that helps you go through it much more quickly. I normally use the pesto with penne pasta, chicken (usually meatballs that I've made), roasted red peppers, and broccoli.
Ugh I hate the eye puff test. :c The best part is when they take pictures of the back of my eyeball and I get to look at it, though. Not a fan of the eye dilation either, come to think of it.
It's funny, I don't really miss it or crave it. My coworker LOVES red meat and eats it whenever she can and I just don't get it. More chicken for me, I guess.
I am not a fan of the way bananas taste, but I buy them because like you say, they are so darn easy. Apples too! I buy carrots to snack on, and my bad habit are those toaster waffles. xD
Beef is so annoying. Maybe because I don't know how to cook it and I figure it's easier to stay with what I know. xD
omg mizithra cheese is so delish. I haven't had it for so long, but ugh now I'm really craving it. THANKS.
