I went to high school (boarding school) with a couple of Malaysian kids. I love how diverse my Subeta friend group is :) Are you from there?
Chicken I use most often because it's cheaper but it does require a fair bit of seasoning (not that I mind. Gives me room to play with a blank canvas). Cheap beef has great flavor but is best in stews or in a pressure cooker. I really like fish, but I always get nervous about smelling up the whole building if the smell is too bad. I did that once already making a West Indian dish. Felt kinda bad but it was SO worth it.
Rubbery chicken is the worst. There are a few foolproof ways I've found to avoid it, my favorite of which is using ground chicken to make meatballs. So tasty and because chicken is bland, it takes seasonings really well and it holds up to cooking. They freeze and thaw surprisingly well too.
ground chicken sounds like a nightmare. would have to use it right away. I don't like ground turkey either. had some bad experiences with it. we've had good luck just tossing it in the oven but I don't remember the temp or how long, but we haven't had any trouble with it yet.
Just wanted to say that I did well in my exam yesterday and I'm free now! Until Wednesday at least, when classes start.
rubbery chicken? haha. never yet. tough chicken, always. but they never go as tough as overcooked beef. electric stove? my induction didn't really have low setting as well. their low is "fire up high at a shorter time". take some time to get used to.
just make sure you don't freeze chicken that has been thawed, I think contributes to the rubbery factor. yeah electric. I just need to pay more attention, I think I need to cook steak about 3 mins on each side on the stove here. I moved in a month and a half ago or so, so I'm still getting used to it
yes. i'm from malaysia. really? boarding school where?
i usually toss tough chicken into soup. cook them more until way overcook, they turn to shred and easier to eat. can't seem to do the same trick with beef :P
hahaha. i always re-freeze chicken. and always cooked them frozen. but i found that cook them in the oven will keep them soft and moist. so yeah, put in the oven, and play subeta until ding.
yeah we do it in the oven too. I've had it from restaurants where it came rubbery though. it's terrible when that happens.
congrats!
It's not bad. It can stay in the fridge the same amount of time you'd normally keep raw meat in the fridge. It freezes like chicken does. I use it pretty much everywhere you use ground beef. Normally I just buy the on sale boneless/skinless whatever and toss it into the food processor if the grocery doesn't have ground chicken.
Connecticut. I was a day student (school was literally down the street). We had a really good squash player there my senior year who was from Malaysia. He was affectionately nicknamed "The Malaysian Sensation" lol. Shredding chicken is much easier than shredding beef. Some pork cuts shred easily, so I assume there's a cut of beef that shreds easily as well.
I don't have a food processor haha. eh I'll hold off. maybe if we wanna try something new some time. I'm going to try to make some barbecue beef sandwiches this week though from an old recipe that I know is good :)
nice one!
part of the reason i start cooking because restaurant is getting lower qualities now. i blame hipsters. hahaha.
the malaysian sensation? hahaha. here, every boarding school students are required to stay in hostel. my principal's daughter had to stay in hostel even though their house is in the school. haha.
i tried grinding beef using blender once. didn't go well. almost broke my blender.
I got it from a family friend when she was upgrading her appliances. It's great. I love free stuff :)
They let commute if we lived close since boarding is a lot more expensive. Beef I wouldn't try to grind unless I had an actual meat grinder, and I wouldn't invest in one of those unless I was making my own sausages or getting really into the whole farm to table thing and wanting to do everything myself.
I just wish we had more variety here.
that's nice :) I got some knives from my uncle since he moved so he had extras. I wish I got some more cool stuff though.
better bought already ground meat. i used to buy them to make burgers, but decided not worth it since it can get pricey compared to cheap fake patty. still bought discounted spoiled ground meat and chicken to make meatballs though.
i live in the city. so we do have varieties, at a price, that i'm not willing to pay. haha. i rather buy 1kg ice cream than pay the same for one small cup of ice cream.
I live in a city too, but our variety isn't great. it's mostly mexican food.
Ugh my sympathies. It's almost worse when you don't know what's causing it. I hope you feel better!
I never really paid much attention to how much ingredients cost until I had to start cooking for myself, so yeah, I know where you're coming from. I also don't eat much red meat - partially because of cost and partially because it's a pain and I'd rather just be lazy and make chili. xD
I know, right? THERE HAS TO BE A CHOCOLATE BUDGET
yeah it makes me worry that something's wrong with me. I'm feeling better right now but it's one of those things that if I don't think about it I'll forget about it.
for me, red meat = flossing time! most of the time, i don't know what i'm cooking. it just come down to fry or soup. haha. as long as i can eat it, i don't care what it is called.
yeah!! there has to be! to celebrate money saving. by blowing all the saved money on ice cream/chocolate. hahahaha.
Yay, congrats!
I don't eat red meat as much anymore because I think it disagrees with me more now than it used to for some reason. I love chicken though.
There are worse things you could waste money on than ice cream. :P
Good day!
Tempest has descended from above in order to play! You receive a storm item so she can get close enough to give you a MIGHTY BEAR HUG.
NO Storm Cloud Sticker
Aww, I love this re so much, imagining a huge bear luring you in with an item to be able to hug you, nghhh so precious ;u;
Hope you are improving. I have migraines so can relate to the head ouchies.
Someone I know -acquaintance not friend - is awful at cooking beef. People say it's like chewing your own shoes. I think they take too much moisture out of it!
