So I was working on my pet Hopping's TC (She represents my geekiness/love of computers/video games X3) and I found the sticks of RAM. Largest is one Gigabyte, which made me think of my first computer.

It was a Packard Bell running Windows 95. Gosh. I got all nostalgic. My parents bought it for me when I was still in grade school, because at that point we were being taught to type, play Oregon Trail and a couple older educational games. That started my love of computers.

I remember it came with the Microsoft Encarta, and I was always browsing through the articles and playing the Maze Game. http://imgur.com/3RJwoC1 (Image not mine)

So, Subeta. What was your first computer like? Lets get nostalgic!

Ha! I have Oregon Trail on my phone now, lol. I remember having some kind of PC when I was in grade school...a 486 is all I can remember, which I guess meant 486 mb of ram? Maybe? That sounds like such a tiny amount to me now as my current computer is a Mac with 1tb ram lol. I remember playing Oregon Trail and Odell Lake on the real early Macs at school though. Treasure Mountain was my very favorite game at home. I don't remember what the Macs were, but they were really boxy and had the black and green screens where the background was black and the writing/images were all pixelly and green.

I can't even remember how much memory mine had. XD I do remember I loved it though. My parents got me little educational games now and then, which I loved.

Right?! I think I loved the educational games more than the 'just for fun' games. My parents used to buy me those too. Do you remember Typing Tutor? It was a learn-to-type program, but it was made up of mini games and I used to love it. It's probably the reason I can type so fast and so well today.

That game was pretty much the reason I can type so fast today.

I think I went from a Windows 95 Packard Bell, to a HP Desktop running Windows XP (I was so excited for it I ended up buying Windows XP for dummies and studying it XD) through a couple laptops with Windows 7, to finally my desktop today with Windows 8.1.

However, that first computer was chugging for a long time!

The first one I had myself was some really old Windows 3.1 with the giant floppy drive. My cousin put a password on the bios and I couldn't remember it so I couldn't use it anymore.

After that I didn't have my own in my room till I was about 13/14 when I got a Compaq personal PC that lasted me YEARS. I had it till I was about 19/20.. Then I built my own PC and it lasted maybe 2/3 years before it pooped out & I had to buy a premade on the fly to finish a commission... It's an Acer and it's pretty good. I just upgraded to 8gb ram, I have a pretty decent video card now for gaming too. Dx But man.. Thinking back to my first pc I'm just stunned how far we've come.

i can't remember my very first pc because i was too young and just didn't spend much time on it. but i do remember it was either a 95 or an xp and my mom used to spend hours on it playing solitaire. god i can still remember the fireworks for winning, they used to mesmerize me haha. and at the time there was this promotion going on with a particular icecream brand, where they would include cd's to disney-themed games in the boxes and they were ridiculously fun. or at least that's how i remember them, but by today's standards they were probably awful lol.

[edit] just realized that i'm definitely younger than everyone else here lmao

I remember getting a small game from a promotion on a cereal box. I think I still have it. It was based on the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire by Disney.

Both my parents would play Tri-Peaks on the first one. I used to try to do it as well.

Uh.

DOS.

Yes. My first computer ran Windows DOS before Windows 95 came out. I have a very distinct memory of fiddling on a computer with a black and orange screen then it suddenly becoming color after an update.

I think that was the computer I changed the password on. XD I was about three or four years old and parents decided it was time for there to be a password on the computer. I figured out how to change it.

It really is, now that I think back on it. XD It just shows how much computer security has come.

First game was either the original Doom - much to my mother's chagrin and horror - or something called Odell Down Under, which was this educational game about the Great Barrier Reef that came out in... I want to say '94 or '95.

There was this screensaver game I used to be addicted to on my computer... : | However, I can't remember for the life of me what it was called and I've been searching for it with no results. My memory of it is really fuzzy because I was so young but the game was somewhat maze-like from a bird's eye view and you had to pass various obstacles with progressively difficult levels. The game had a limited palette of purple, green, red(?) with a silver background. Everything had a 3-D effect to it. There were no characters in the game; just these animated shapes.

Most clear memory of playing this was that there would be these revolving doors. And if you wanted to get the obstacles out of the way, you would have to time it so that you trap them or spit them out somewhere else. Not sure if a lot of others played it or it was something unique to a possible Chinese knock-off version of Windows that my dad picked up.

Or I'm just cray cray.

The first computer we had in the house was an old Macintosh. It was big, blocky, and had lime green font on a solid black background. It read floppy discs and came with a stiff, plastic cover for the enormous keyboard. Ahhh, memories~

That I remember.

A Gateway computer that had Windows 95 on it that my dad bought for me and my brother for Christmas.

The first game that I actually remember my dad buying for us on it was number muncher. I started playing it on the school computers in elementary school before my dad bought it for us though.
