So...I had this crazy theory that the item ID of the weapon used to beat him = the amount of sP you have on hand and that would explain why the same weapon won't always work and won't be the same for other users....I was wrong =(

Not so crazy. I'm trying to work with all kinds of number combinations that might relate - User ID, Item ID, Pet ID and Pet Tier. Haven't found any correlation though. If it's just purely random I'm probably screwed. lol

Trying to think of things that change once you've beaten him five times.

• You gain the loot. But you've been gaining random loot the whole time, so it would have to be tied to those three items specifically.

• You gain EXP for that specific pet? This doesn't work if you get EXP from battles 1-4.

• You gain sP? Same as above.

Anything I'm forgetting? I hate to believe the five-win-reset is just obligatory D:

- Ugh, Noooo that item isn't restockable, AND isn't infinite use. My worst case scenario confirmed. Hopefully there is SOMETHING narrowing down the pool of items which can break him!
