One of my favorite quotes that often gives me pause, especially in light of the recent US election, is one by Anna Julia Cooper. She said:

"The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or a sect, a party or a class – it is the cause of humankind, the very birthright of humanity."

I think it's beautiful. <3

My sig now is a quote I'll die by. I hope to never resort to such extremities.

"Scars will heal but were meant to bleed." --Believe by Hollywood Undead. May get it as a tattoo...

As well, "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream." Love me some EAP.

But truly, a top tier for me is this: "I am not strange, weird, off, nor crazy, my reality is just different from yours." It's a quote from Alice Through the Looking-Glass; I don't believe that quote comes up in the book, only the Tim Burton movie. But I needed it when I was being bullied in school for being "weird" and "crazy". :/

I have a few more from people like Johnen Vasquez, Tim Burton.

my favorite ones tend to be short because I can remember them and quote them verbally lol:

"Sanity is not statistical." from 1984 by George Orwell

"This, too, shall pass."

Longer one includes:

"Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of non-combustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy." from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

just because I totally agree with it

edit: and some others...

"Never let fear decide your fate."

"It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to has power over you."

"I may not have gone where I needed to go, but I think I've ended up where I needed to be." - Douglas Adams

"You have to leave something behind to go forward." from Interstellar

"Don't look back. You're not going that way." is probably one of my absolute favorites

"If you don't stick to your values when they're being tested, they're not values. They're hobbies." - Jon Stewart

and this is religious but I identify with it: "People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the world your best and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway." - Mother Theresa

Those who pretend to have made something "foolproof" never take into account the ingenuity of fools. I read that in The Darwin Awards.
