Aderyn was happy that she'd gotten an excited response out of Elfie when she'd asked if he wanted to learn to count to five. She glanced over at Gaia, shifting her gaze between the girl and the owl.

"At five there will be more treats!"

Reaching up to her neck, Aderyn gently scooped Elfie out of her hood, holding him in her palm at eye level and looking at him.

"Okay Elfie, when I click my tongue, I want you to click your beak. If you think you can do that, go ahead and click your beak for me!"

Meanwhile, Hygieia was a little spooked as she was suddenly set down in Emmy's lap. She dug her talons into the fabric of Emmy's robes for purchase and took her time to settle comfortably before turning her attention to the girl. She watched as Emmy raised her hands over her head and pondered the girl's words. Raising her wings like that was a novel, unnatural movement, but Hygieia gave it a shot anyway after a few moments of deliberation. It wasn't quite what Emmy had achieved, but her wings were raised higher than usual and the terminal phalanges were turned inward a bit so that the feathers on the tips of her wings appeared to be arcing towards each other. She gave a little hoot before putting her wings back down, wondering if what she'd done was right.

Paddy flicked through her book of magical creatures, until she remembered about Leprechauns.... and felt silly for forgetting them, as she has a pretty Irish-sounding name

"Well done!" Gaia went to her box to retrieve the prize on her way back she noticed Aderyn () working with the owls "You are making great progress! You too, Emmy! () I am glad you are able to train your owls. The owls are very responsive as well! I am sure they will go along with anything for a treat."

“Ah.” It made sense now, Fade knew all too well the effects of pulling multiple all-nighters. But he didn’t have much time to sympathise as Unicorn drifted over to him and began messing with his hair. “Oh, hey there buddy. Easy OK.” Reaching up he risked getting nipped at to pet the birds soft chest feathers.

Not long after the round of trivia ended, Magnus was snoring and Fade couldn’t help but laugh. When Paddy approached, Fade nodded in agreement to her suggestion. “Sure thing, only I’m not really sure where to begin… Oh, and this is Unicorn. Gaia let me borrow him.” He eyed Unicorn out of the corner of his eye. The owl returned Fade’s skeptical glance with a glimmer of a grin behind his eyes. “Never had an owl before, only really familiar with this raven back home who lives in mom’s garden. He is a lot heavier.” It was actually surprising how much more lightweight the owl was, even for its impressive size.

Elfie hooted somewhat mournfully as he was removed from his hoodie enclosure by Aderyn's neck, but chirped at her happily enough as she held him aloft in front of her. He listened to her, then cocked his head sideways, as though looking at her from a 90 degree angle to normal would be helpful. After she clicked her tongue a couple of times, he began gently closing his beak, not making sound at first, but then he clicked it with an audible sound, and cocked his head the other way, as if asking if he'd done it right.

Emmy patiently waited while Hygieia got settled and comfortable, her talons digging into Emmy's pants through her robes. Once she was holding on, Emmy asked her to raise her wings over her head, for her wing tips to touch, forming a circle around her head.

Emmy demonstrated and held the position for a few moments as the owl regarded her, seemingly thoughtful. Then she slowly raised her wings, not quite as high as was the goal, but quite higher than she normally would have done.

"That was a great first try!" Emmy said proudly, reaching out to stroke Hygieia's chest. "I think that deserves a treat!" Emmy dug out a few treats from the bag Sam had given back to her and let Hygieia take them out of her hand, happily watching the owl eat them.

"Okay now, this time, try for higher! And bring your wing tips together, if you can!" Emmy demonstrated again, lifting her arms and then curling in her wrists so that she could intertwine her fingers in the air over her head.

You seem afraid of Unicorn." Gaia looked at her owl "Are you being mean to Fade? Shake wings with Fade and let him teach you a trick!" Handing Fade some treats Gaia walked away keeping an eye on her bird. At that moment Magnus () raised his head enough to slip a piece of parchment to Gaia. "Well done, Magnus! It seems even when sleeping words just jump at you!"

Getting to the front and clearing her throat Gaia began "owls are not only pets, but they are also a very important resource for us in the wizard community.Owls can find their way in almost any weather condition and will always find the person they are delivering to. This has made it possible for us to keep in contact with others even in the most remote of places. It is important to know how to choose your owl depending on your needs. Here I will write some of the owl species most commonly used by wizards and some characteristics of each one. This might help you in the future when choosing an owl of your own. Just remember smaller owls are better suited for shorter trips. Larger owls are a better choice for longer deliveries. This doesn't mean a small owl can't make the journey, but it might take them longer to reach their destination."

Gaia pointed her wand at the screen and changed it into a blackboard where she began writing the names of the different species of owls.

Gaia turned around and added "Owl training is not a common business in the wizarding world, but it is more of a family business. The ability to train is passed down and each generation of wizard brings something new to owl training. My dad also trains other wizards that are interested in training owls. It takes time and patience. When an owl has made it to the shops, the post office, Hogwarts, or even the Ministry of Magic they have been raised and trained. Unless someone catches or rescues an owl from the wild the owls have had some form of training and human contact in the past. Any questions?" Gaia grinned; talking about owls is one of her favorite things.

Magnus opened a bleary eye scribbled something down and handed it to Gaia. Then he fell back asleep on Sam's shoulder. So far the only thing he taught Briggs, was how to sleep in his hair. ((OOC: feel free to play a prank on the boy, play with his hair or whatever lol ))

Aderyn had to resist the urge to clap for fear of dislodging Elfie as the little owl managed to click his beak after only a couple of prompts from her. She grinned widely and reached over with her free hand, plucking another treat out of the small bag she had with her and holding it up.

"That was wonderful! I knew you could do it. Now, I want you to copy me. We'll work our way up to five clicks in no time, and when we do, this treat is all yours!"

Waiting a moment for Elfie to get ready, she nodded and then clicked her tongue twice in sequence, waiting for him to copy her.

Hygieia, meanwhile, was bristling her feathers happily at the chest rubs she was receiving in exchange for her attempt at raising her wings. She'd had her eyes closed, but opened them as she smelled treats, immediately noticing the one Emmy held. As the girl offered her the treat, she shuffled forward on Emmy's lap a tiny bit and nipped it gently from the girl's hand, taking care not to bite.

Swallowing the treat, Hygieia regarded Emmy closely, considering the girl for several moments before trying the trick again. This time, she managed to get her wings up higher, and when she turned them in a bit to get her feathers to touch, she ruffled the tips of her wings a little. Letting out an indignant squawk at the mess she'd made of her feathers, she put her wings back down again and proceeded to preen a little bit, combing the feathers with her beak to smooth them down once more, her task forgotten for the moment.

"Unicorn looks like he wants to learn a new trick," Paddy replied to Fade (). Thinking for a moment she decided to see if he could stand on one leg, as she'd found that useful for Mouse to learn so she could check the length of her talons. "One leg," she said to Unicorn, holding her hand close to the leg she wanted the owl to raise, "one leg." Unicorn looked at her a little strangely, and she knew from the way Mouse's weight had shifted on her arm that Mouse was standing on one leg, waiting for her treat. Eventually Unicorn lifted one leg slightly, and gobbled the treat that Paddy handed her.

"Ok, smartie pants," she laughed, handing her own owl a treat as well. "I think Mouse wants you to try getting her to do something," she added to Fade, "she seems to want to show off."

Gaia laughed as she noticed Mouse doing the trick when handed her answers. "I think Mouse is really smart... maybe too smart!" Gaia winked and smiled at Mouse. Reading the answers "Awesome work Paddy!"

Sam's smile was almost as goofy as Magnus' as he fell asleep again on her shoulder. Gently she reached up and removed Briggs from his head. Umbra blinked slowly and "whoo'd" softly at the new owl, then hopped to the back of Magnus' chair, and taking several strands of his hair in her beak, began preening the sleeping boy's head. Briggs stood very straight on Sam's hand, his plumage tight to his body and ear-tufts stiffly erect. His yellow eyes followed Umbra's every movement with interest. He calmed quickly as the big owl ignored him, tufts disappearing as he settled and puffed out his feathers. The small owl bobbed his head up and down as Sam broke one of Umbra's treats in half for him. "Do you want a treat? Sam asked softly. yes, yes yes Briggs seemed to nod. Perhaps not the most spectacular trick Sam thought as she gave Briggs the treat, but it sure was cute.

Fade wasn’t so much afraid as he was just socially awkward. When came over and chided at her owl Fade blushed slightly. “Not his fault, it’s mine.” Taking a breath and letting it out slowly, he made a point to calm his own nerves so that it wouldn’t rub off on the other animals in the room. Smiling up at and Mouse when she got both owls to do a trick, Fade debated on what he should ask Mouse to do. “Um let's see… Do you know flap?” He made eye contact with Mouse and asked more simply. “Flap you wings please. Flap em’.” He held his own arms up and moved them in a wafting motion. Hopefully with any luck the little owl would spare him the embarrassment and agree to the command. Fade figured Mouse was little enough that even at full force not very many papers would go flying around the room. Even as amusing as that would be.

Glancing across the room at Magnus () still as passed out as ever, Fade wondered if they couldn’t teach the entire room of owls to airlift the sleeping boy back into his dormitory bedroom.
