Yours looks like it is a character and those are harder to rate since something might not "go" with the avatar but it belongs to that character. All in all I think it's pretty good except that the shirt stands out way too much. A more muted shirt would look better. Also, maybe add something like 8.5/10

I'm not sure why you have the cartoonish wave layered in front of the other background. Also, not sure why it's a water background at all since your avatar itself doesn't seem to be particularly water related. If you ditch at least that part of the background it would help because it really distracts. The dress and the hood are slightly different shades of blue which is kind of annoying, but I can't really tell how off it is with the wave background. Also, the pink bow seems to be oddly layered with the hood. 6/10

I was trying on things and the wave in front of the backgound looked pretty neat to me. :) Do you have any suggestions for backgrounds?

If you want to stick with the water theme, see what [item=awash, among, afloat print] looks like. Even has water in it. Or see what it looks like with just (I think that's what's behind the wave. There's a nice CW that would go well, . Or . Something muted like or would probably look nice.

Yours is neat, but I feel like the red of the hair is a bit overwhelming. Maybe a red and black wig? Or even just black. Also the green of the eyes doesn't particularly flow with the avatar. Although, if you change to a black hair I think it will work. 8.5/10

Since I feel like crushing my self-esteem, could I ask for an avatar rating? I never have any idea what to do for backgrounds. :/ Also, I am very gay and like having equally gay HAs, so having a critique like 'yo, boy, stop being so gay and having androgynous avatars' won't help. (This is actually my number one fear when asking for avatar critiques.)

I'm just butting in here to say that I love your avatar! I have never asked for critiques before because I'm also scared, but androgynous HA's are awesome so don't be scared for that reason. I wish I was better at making them! If anybody told someone their avatar was too androgynous, I wouldn't consider it a valid critique. What they should be critiquing is whether the items match or not, and whether they add to or subtract from the look you're going for. goes back to lurking :p

There's nothing wrong with androgynous avatars. Overall I think it's great. I don't feel like the tail adds anything and it would be nice to see some gold further down the avatar.It looks like you have some by your wrists, but it's mostly covered. 9.5/10

have you got any suggestions for my avatar? feeling like i need a ground item but couldn't find anything suitable. maybe a filter as well? idk lol

I actually don't think it needs anything on the ground. I do think the shoulders/neck area is too cluttered. I would either ditch the dragon, or change to a simpler top than . Maybe even change to a simpler hair instead. A filter would be a nice addition, or just something to texture the skin a bit (freckles or blush. I really like how the colors work together with the background. Overall, despite feeling cluttered, I like it. 9/10
