Does this mean threads about debatable topics that get made in other forums will be locked?
No, a user just suggested that they should be removed.
Meh..? I don't know how I feel about this. Not that I visited the debates that much, though. I guess maybe a "fun" site like Subeta isn't really the place for deadly serious business to be discussed.
Bye bye.
The debates so often turned into bicker-fests that I'm not sad to see them go. I hardly ever posted my thoughts there, as I have enough problems with my blood pressure as it is :D
Occasionally a well written post would cause me to re-think an opinion, but I agree, there are more appropriate places to go for an argument than a fun pet site.
I'm glad the debate forum was finally removed.
There's no point in even trying to hold an intelligent debate on hot, controversial topics because people usually already set their mind on whatever it is they believe, and nothing can or will persuade them to change their way of thinking.

I didn't know there even was one. LOL Probably missed it subconsciously because I hate turmoil.

What was the question?
A lot of the threads in the Current Events subforum are about topics that were at one point debated in the Debate forum.
So, my assumption is at the very least, your staff will need to moderate that forum more. You can take away the space which people used to argue with each other over their opinions, but that's doesn't remove their desire to do so.
I also remember there being a discussion in the SHoutbox not too long ago that you were involved with, and ultimately resulted in the SB being closed and players being told to take the discussion to the Debate forum. So I am curious how those kinds of situations will be handled now?
I don't remember the debate forums being a very pleasant place and I agree entirely with the suggestion thread. Can't say I'm disappointed to see them closed down.
They'll be told to take them off of the site, because we no longer have a debate forum.
We plan to monitor the current events forum, but nothing from religion / sexuality / etc should really be making its way there. The current events forum is more meant to comment on vs debate things that are going on at the moment, anyway. :)

Awesome, really pleased with this decision. c:
Shame. I really enjoyed reading through some. The debate forums weren't nearly as bad as people are making them out to be. Is there anywhere we can go to read the old threads from there? I enjoyed reading through other peoples' opinions and was hoping to finish leafing through a few. The fact that they're gone is pretty sad.
I don't really understand why the entire forum had to go just because a small group of people started complaining about the content. I feel like this was a premature action when simple moderation could have helped weed out the people using the debate forums to 'attack' others. There seem to be a lot of forums that don't get much traffic either, so that really shouldn't have been much of a factor in why they were shut down.
The way I see it; if a topic in the debate forum upsets someone, they can simply opt out on reading it? That's what I did when I saw a thread I didn't like, and ignoring the thread did not effect my time on subeta negatively.
TL;DR: I think this was a premature action and other options should have been explored before purging a rather interesting part of the forums.
Yeah!! no circus and no misleading illusions. Thank you very much.
It's time to get real and inspired!
Question Everything
I never went there but I'll admit I'm surprised it is gone. I thought it was a nice little way to keep hot button issues off the main boards and people who wanted to see those topics could go there willingly but it was out of the way enough to not bother everyone else.

:D Look how nice it looks down there, now it's just fun stuff at the bottom. What a good decision! [edit] Honestly is it too much to ask people who really want to debate to either take it off subeta or do it over sMail?
Many people would get really upset because others didn't share their opinion. This leads to people blocking others indefinitely. I guess the forums just became more friendly. thanks for the change. [i can't say it doesn't surprise me though]. but lately subeta saw several shops getting closed, functions getting rid of, so this should be something normal from now on to see. :>
