Im a huge fan of this show! I love Jasper <3 and also Peridot but it's hard to choose a favorite

I commented a while ago, but new episodes have come out since then, so I'm commenting again! There may be spoiler in this, so watch out.

I always felt sympathy for Lapis, because she deserved it, but after the recent episode, 'Barn Mates', I feel a little bit iffy about her. Her reaction was completely understandable, because I would've acted the same way, but Peridot has grown so much as a character and I, as a result, have grown fond of her. Seeing anybody dislike her now, makes me wary. There's been so much character development for Peridot! How can you not appreciate her?

I think the other episode that I enjoyed was called 'Humans VS Ruby'? Such a cute episode! I love seeing Sapphire and Ruby interact, because they're so sweet when they're apart (and also together). I love my space rock lesbians. I also appreciated seeing the difference in the rubies. Previous episodes have implied that they're all similar, but these ones had unique personalities. I guess that gems having separate personalities to other gems of the same stone is something I should've recognised earlier, what with the diamonds and pearls, but they seem different.

Overall, my love for Steven Universe is still going strong. Last time I commented on here, I'd only been watching it for about a month.

Steven Universe is my favorite show of all time, and I don't think that any show will top this one for a long time.

(Spoilers)My favorite character is Blue Pearl, even though we know so little about her, she seems so interesting and graceful, I still hope we will get so see more of her further on.

But Steven himself is so good like when have we ever had such a good, pure character in all of history??? and Greg is SUCH a good dad???? and Amethyst is my poor babby chicken nugget???? I want Garnet to squeeze me with her powerful gay arms????? AND CONNIE IS PERFECT IN EVERY SINGLE WAY????? I LOVE EVERYONE AAAH

OMG I hope you don't mind me butting in and writing an essay, but I have lots of feelings about this lol (don't at all feel obligated to read/respond to this, I'm just pinging you bc of what you were talking about!) So I LOVE Peridot, I am SO happy they did the redemption arc with her, but I actually am really pretty happy about Lapis' portrayal so far... yes, it's sad to watch Peri try so hard and get shot down every time after all the growing she's done, but Lapis didn't get to see any of that! She only knows Peridot as one of her captors, and she's been imprisoned for centuries. (Peridot has been with Steven for like, what, a few weeks? Nothing compared to their lifespans.) She doesn't really trust any of the Crystal Gems yet, either - just Steven, kind of, because he freed her and has been showing nothing but good will. But the other gems? All they've done is traumatize her and use her, and then forget about her! Sure, it's understandable, but it's also realistic, and the too-real portrayal of emotions is the reason I love this show as much as I do.

(And I mean, really, how weird is it that the people that imprisoned Lapis repeatedly suddenly are saying "Please be my roommate! You can go whenever you want, but I am literally desperate for you to be my friend all of a sudden!" Like I'd be super wary of that if I was Lapis after all she's been through - if they couldn't contain her by force, maybe now they're trying some sneakier move? She has (presumably) never once had a friend before Steven! If she ever did know true freedom before she left homeworld - which is doubtful, considering what we know of Gem culture - she's long since forgotten.)

I feel kind of the same way about Lapis as I do about the Sardonyx arc - what Pearl did was super wrong and messed up; it kinda made me hate her for a couple of eps (I'm over it now lol). I love that they showed how they moved past it; Pearl admitted that she messed up bigtime and that it was super hurtful and selfish, and Garnet had to take some time to herself before she was ready to forgive her, and all of that is shown to be not only okay, but a healthy and safe resolution for everyone.

When they do arcs like this, they're showing a huge range of emotional capacity that you don't normally see on most TV shows, let alone kids cartoons. ATLA/Legend of Korra are probably the only other contenders that come to mind. I think it's really good for them to show that healing and forgiveness is a process and not something that just happens suddenly, it's not something that you're just obligated to give someone because it's the nice thing to do. They're showing what it means to be traumatized and how it can change you - but also how healing can change you, and that it doesn't get better overnight. I think it fleshes out the show - and the characters - in a very three-dimensional way, and it makes me love them even more.

They show humor and happiness and love and friendship and positivity and healing, but also sadness and fear and loss and trauma and heartbreak. They show that both positive and negative emotions come and go in life, that they often accompany one another, and they show how to handle them in a mature and productive way. Instead of just being bright and goofy and colorful eye-candy, it's like How To Be A Person 101. I mean, frick, they even explained why infatuation isn't the same thing as love in a way that kids can understand it, and now they're basically explaining PTSD with Lapis. How cool is that?! How cool is it that kids have this TV show where the male protagonist solves problems by being soft and kind and gentle and healing and loving, instead of just punching the hardest and having the biggest sword? How cool is it that they're not just trying to entertain and get viewership, but that they're taking this opportunity to say, it's okay to have all kinds of feelings, it's okay to be angry if you've been hurt, it's okay to need time to yourself, and it's okay to change?

So yeah, Barnmates was kind of a bummer, and it's sad that Lapis hasn't forgiven Peri. I super want them to end up being pals, but I really feel for my traumatized lil water witch and I love her more with every episode. I think they'll probably show her coming around on her own time, on her own terms, when she's ready to heal... and THAT is going to be very cathartic to see. Way more satisfying than if she had just caved and moved in immediately. So yeah... sorry for the book lmao. That's how she can not appreciate her. Yet. :^) Who knows, maybe once Lapis is ready to forgive, she'll see how immensely Peri has changed and their friendship will be even stronger because of it.

(I guess there is still a chance that they'll turn her into a villain, but I don't think so. I think Steven is going to amass a rebel gem army that will dwarf even Rose's, between all the friends he's already made out of enemies, and all the gem shards that are still bubbled and need to be healed, not to mention the Cluster... SPEAKING OF, I can't wait for him to heal Centipeetle and see what kind of gem they are!!!)

Oh, don't worry, I know that Lapis' response is totally justified and, to be honest, if they never made her forgive Peridot, then I would be fine with that too. It would become a part of her and I would grow to love her for her lack of forgiveness, just like I've grown to love Peridot for her everything. Initially I didn't like Peridot at all. I think that I'd just become so endeared to Peri that Lapis' blatant disregard to her gifts was a bit of a shock, and that knocked me off-kilter.

It probably didn't help that I'd built up some severe hype for the new episodes too. I was probably expecting happy fun times.

Just finished the latest episode that I found online, so I think it's safe with me to converse on here now~ Favourite character since very early on in the show has been Garnet, even before I knew she was a fusion. She's just... awesome? Steven/Lion are I think tied for spot . I have a soft spot for cats ;u;

I see there's a few Jasper fans on here, but I can't hop on the Jasper train just yet, simply because the lack of screen time Jasper's had o3o Jasper's current portrayal is BA, but, I just need something more to latch on to?

(btw I'm totally still in denial that Steven is 14 and I can't believe how good looking Greg was when he was younger and I def want a backstory on Lion, lol.)

I love this show! Pearl is my favorite, but I've got a soft spot for self-sacrificial characters who aren't always the healthiest in their devotion. She obviously means well, but it's very clear that her actions with Rose weren't always the healthiest, and that missing her still affects her in a very big way. Which is also important: it shows grief can be big and complicated and can often take a lot of time to work through. And even when she messes up, those mistakes can be fixed, and forgiveness can be earned! Even if that's complicated too. (See the whole Sardonyx debacle.)

And I am so, so glad about Garnet and everything about her. I cried during Jail Break and I am consistently pleased with everything. It's just really gratifying to have a kid's show on the air where one of the characters is literally a strong, lasting expression of love between a lesbian couple.

I'm excited to have Lapis back and see how she develops, too. And I'm really curious what's going to happen with Jasper! If there's one thing I trust with this show, it's that when there's an interesting plot thread left dangling, it comes back sooner or later to pick that back up again. It's also a very kind sort of show? It's very big on forgiveness and showing that people can learn and be better than their worst moments, which is too often lacking with the simplistic 'beat the bad guys' vibe a lot of series have. I don't know yet if Jasper will seek or even want redemption, but just that trend with the show makes me curious, you know?

Lapis Lazuli's, "I'm Bob" always gets to me in the best of ways. XD So far I haven't really had a favorite gem, but I think maybe Lapis will end up being my favorite, depending on how her character is fleshed out.

SO GUYS new season started are you guys excited? 8D

Well this summer of steven has been great so far! I just watched Alone at Sea. Poor Greg! :( When will the man ever catch a break!

Man, I take so many screenshots when I watch episodes on my phone. The art is so beautiful. When I can afford it, I'm going to buy as much merchandise as I can. All of the characters are fantastic and so unique, but I feel the most connected to Pearl and Lapis. I'm so happy this show exists. ❤

So far of this season I think my favourite episode is Monster Reunion. I really want to know more about gem corruption and how exactly the diamonds achieve it 8O

Yo this current batch of recent new episodes has been so good! In light of recent developments, I REALLY want to see Amethyst go evil. <3 I think it would make for a very interesting plot line. She can totally become good once again at some point, but I'd just really love her to finally sink too far in and become a baddie~

Honestly the way the series rocks back and forth with her this idea is totally plausible and I would quite like it if they did that with her ^_^ I feel like she could really bond with Jasper~

Also, I hope they bring that new gem back because I really like her. I heard tumblr was having a hissy fit with the episode that just came out about her but tbh I felt the episode was fantastic and I'd like to see more 8D

I really really really hope they do! I could see her connection with Jasper. Tonight's episode description per Wikipedia mentions Amethyst 'acting strangely', so I hope my theory proves correct. Probably not, but one can hope!
