There's a difference in shop stock and the type of thing a quest asks for, I think. Shops have a smaller amount of items to choose from, whereas the whole food category is huge, as it is for weapons, etc. Possible exceptions being Alexander and Carl.
I know it is supposed to go through numerous shops, but I seem to wind up hitting the same five or six shops each time.
I understand trying to get money spent, but as the results seem so varied here, there's a lot of people who are not going to be willing to spend the extra sP for a slight chance at an equal or greater value being received. And I already stated I have no qualms with asking for stuff that is being stocked in the Mystery Box that day, but a rethink may be needed with the cost of books plus ATG/Apothecary items.
ugh mystery box, not sure I like that idea.
Just checked it out, first quest, Alex asked for a normal book and
Rose Quartz Cabochon Ring 499,999 sP.
Mmmh.

Can't wait for apothecary to be the mystery box again!!!
Yeah, really not diggin' this change. I mean, I understand the desire to move around SP but just I feel like it doesn't really make sense (why is the library asking for random crap?) and it isn't going to affect the book prices - only actual book restocking revamps and whatnot will do that. I appreciated the other quest item changes because at least those ones made sense. Carl and Pete ask for food. Malaria asks for weapons. Cynthia asks for toys and random creepy items that make you wonder if she's not secretly a psychotic killer like razors. It all fits and makes sense.

I can't tell you how many "Super Rare" items that I get from Alexander that I end up giving away to friends because they sit in my shop for 6 months or more, not selling...
I don't like this idea either.
I know prior to this on Monday (which was the day I went off on vacation), I did Alex's quests and got mostly Rares and Super Rares which while I like, I can't sell because of the fact that I don't have the Autopricer (I only get one 1 Week GA once every 21 days so I can put my pets in the Resort and autoprice all of my stuff along with the quests), so by the time I can autoprice things, their prices have dramatically reduced, not to mention the payout wasn't that good, but at least I got over half of my quests done during that time.
Today, for just ONE of Shinwa's quests with Alex, I had to sacrifice 5 QUESTS to get to the one I could do, and even though the books have gone down (mostly), the jewelry has shot up (except for the last quest, that is). Didn't notice a bump in the sP either. And the item I got? A Super Rare item worth only 33k... Not profitable at all.

I think the problem with library quests is that they asked for the same few items. it's not that these items didn't rs much, it's that everyone buys them out because the pool of books is so small. there are a ton of books in the library and I can probably name all of the books they ask for.
if this has been said already, sorry, didn't read previous posts.
I just shot through the quests and since my Library budget is 85K I was able to get most of them done. My on-hand points did take a major hit (by my own choice) I received some amazing prizes. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out, but so far, so good.

I am ... interested to see how this will work on a day when the mystery box isn't completely shitty. I don't understand why ... this was implemented though? Like, what does throwing in random items add to the quest?
bird and bear and hare and fish give my love her fondest wish
Ive done only 5 quests out of 15, so 10 quests I had to see no to cause of the ridiculous pricey of some of the jewelry and books. Hopefully tomorrow mystery box is better.
Hoping it gets better once it's not Glitters, because the few I've done... just no. :)
RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

Not sure I like this change. Unable to complete many quests at all

I can't help but agree with a lot of what's been said about the price of the Mystery Box item. I didn't do a single quest from Alex because all the jewelry was priced so high I just shook my head and clicked quit. Here's to hoping tomorrow works out better! :)
I do not like this change at all. Out of all 15 quests not one quest would have cost me less than 50K I did one, the cheapest of the bunch at around 55K and I only got back 22K. I can't remember the item I got with it but less than 50% return on sP is disappointing. Plus two of the quests I was asked for an absolutely unbuyable item. None in shops or trades. I wouldn't spend the amount I was asked for in these quests that I would on a two item quest for Saggitarius.
I really disliked Alexander's quests before but now it's beyond disappointing. Unless your intention was meant to make it more difficult and/or expensive, in that case it would be a success.
Where is the mystery box thing? I lost money on all my library quests today. I misunderstood that the new quest thing did not begin today. Forgive me of all my stupidity. I am dealing with a lot of illnesses and real life drama so my mind is scattered. So, if someone can explain what the mystery box is and where it is located please ping me. However if this thing only gives one item a day. It still will not be feasible to do library quests in my opinion. However I may be misunderstanding this.
I only was able to do 2 quests. All the items he asked for was expensive :(
Liking this change; having it tied to mystery shop is great, with it changing shops daily it stops it being a set list of items he asks for, and keeps more items desirable from the npc shops. :)
I hope this works out! I actually went through all 10 of my library quests and only did one, as the items all added up to be more than 80k. The jewelry was waaay too expensive - maybe because it's nearing the end of the day, and he asked for pretty much the same couple items, as has been mentioned.
