oh no, i'm not going to add new things to it right away DON'T WORRY. I just don't feel bad now requesting more prizes from artists for it. I'm going to try to get some items for other games first tho.

Well, there goes a nice way to earn sP. I'm disappointed that Item Hunt's been reduced to once only :/ You may as well take that Guilded Tome off site, then. It's useless except for the fact that it's an incredibly expensive book to read to a pet.

Making sP more valuable it seems making it more and more difficult to obtain. I hope this doesn't turn into Neopets where making currency was practically an impossibility :/

I'm pretty sure that's the intention. sP can't be very valuble if tons is being generated everyday.

also: is what 52 million? I really doubt many people were seriously using it to make money through Item Hunt. Maybe , but still that's a 14 mill investment. Can you make a ton more than that on Item Hunt?

Honestly the whole issue of not allowing people to complete it again seems bizzare, especially when there are obvious other solutions if the only problem is the Swashbuckle prize, but it doesn't seem to be a huge deal.

Neither the tome or catalogue are readable...?

I'm getting the impression one of those will have something to do with unlocking Chase as a challenger, though, so that doesn't exactly make that one "useless" by any means (nor does skipping the first 50 quests if you can never remember to do these in the first place and all you want to do is get to level 75 and unlock Chase as a challenger because you're a masochist since he's kinda an ass to fight).

But I wouldn't mind seeing them turned into books -shrug- I've spent waaay more than 52m on a book before, so as long as they don't become seasonal let's do it.

I'm a little peeved staff couldn't bother to give us a heads up. I would have used my gilded tome to reset it so I could play, though i'm slightly mollified by the fact they're working on getting him as a challenger for those who are finished. I was basking in the glow of finally managing to beat the icky bugger before i did. I'll wait to see what they do with the Tome, since I now have useless extra tome sitting in my hoard.

Do you have a rare item that just won't sell? Are you going through the high levels of Item Hunt? Or maybe you just HATE that blue bunny? Then you should join IHH helpers and IHH bargain in the forum groups!

Awwww, super bummed now that I chose to use the Tome to beat IH a second time to get my swash, which I sold years ago when my pet was a bb, and now don't have a way to get Chase as an opponent.

I fully understand the reasoning behind it re: the Swashbuckle being devalued, etc. but poof there goes that opponent for me? Good to know you guys are trying to work out a way to get him back for those of us who didn't do that already, but this seems like yet another case of 'didn't think of that beforehand, oops!'

And if the alternative is something CS based. Just don't.

You guys keep saying that the messed up hover prices have nothing to do with this. I'm sorry, but...you're simply wrong. When I beat this game, I don't believe any of my last 5 levels cost more than 10 mil. If hover prices were fixed to be accurate, then Item Hunt could use that data to make later levels more difficult. The reason for deflated prices isn't solely that Item Hunt is repeatable, it IS because of how easy it is to complete. I think making the Swashbuckle an achievement prize is a wonderful solution.

Also, you're actually NOT cutting off an sP fountain by doing this. Notice all the people in this forum saying they don't plan to finish the game at all now because they want to keep this source of sP income. This actually makes this game even more of a fountain than it already was. Using the Gilded Item Tome after finishing level 100 is a very expensive thing to do, and it takes a long time to earn that money back through Item Hunt alone. But if you never finish the game in the first place (for the sake of making sP), then there's not much reason to purchase the Gilded Item Tome. In fact, if you're not trying to finish the game, there is absolutely NO reason to buy the Tome.

I'm with the other users that are saying they have no reason to really finish IH now. I mean, sure, I want the swashbuckle just as much as the next person, who wouldn't? But, do I like sP too? You betcha. I can use the money I generate from IH to eventually purchase a swashbuckle if I so desire too. Granted, now the price will go up, but I'll still get it that way eventually AND I'll still be able to play the game. So what's my incentive to finish?

Making it an achievement does seem like a logical solution because it doesn't involve rolling back anything (you don't have to hand out something that wasn't already handed out before, you just have to make sure that it doesn't hand it out to people who already beat the game and that it does hand the item out from this point forward), and it allows people to play again and again. And if you really WANT to finish IH multiple times, well, more power to you.

I'm glad that Chase is being made available to people who were supposed to earn him as a challenger but didn't, but I'm also kind of wondering what sort of uses the tome and the catalogue are going to take on because it appears that right now, their uses have diminished drastically. Making them readable is one solution, naturally.

Glad to hear that you guys are working out a way for people who have beaten IH to get Chase as a challenger. Maybe a solution would be to have Chase be unlocked as a challenger upon beating IH, if the user didn't get to unlock him earlier.

And honestly, the only reason that I used the was because I had one hanging out in my gallery from way back when they were given out in the free shop giveaway. Otherwise, I probably would've simply counted my losses and moved on with the satisfaction of at least earning my

So, now you changed the look of the buttons which is good. But why do they have to be as wide as the page? And why didn't you just add the "search" button for the item as it is with all other quests now?

edit: Thinking about this, you should absolutely update the game description. I never realized that once you finished level 100 you could not restart the game (except by using the tomes). Cutting off the higher end of IH for those using the tomes in the past (which is quite an sP sink, I think), it will probably influence the market for expensive items Chase might ask for. There might be considerably less demand so the prices will drop actually. And what for, to save the value of the Swashbuckle? Make it an achievement prize as others have suggested.

How is the average price somehow not the issue when IH uses the pricing to determine what to ask for, especially in later levels? Also, the Swashbuckle and the winning of IH only became a common occurrence when the average/daily pricing got screwed up... so...

Holy moly that is cheap! I wonder how that person I saw managed to get 350mil for it recently??? I spose either they were fibbing, the buyer didn't realize it had deflated, I misread when they sold it, or the price just dropped that quickly. shrug

I know the intended purpose of the tome was simply skipping to level 50, but when the flaw was found that you could start over, it was okayed through a ticket and the staff member said they got the OK straight from Keith and word was spread. And people made plans accordingly.

I'm not so much frustrated that the game is being reverted. Though that sucks when we've been used to the idea that we could have our cake (swashie) and eat it too (go back to earning) for a good 5 years now. Or even that it's been changed with little to no warning. Though that is ALSO very frustrating, but hey staff prerogative. I'm mostly perplexed because there is a better rational solution which could solve the deflation problem of the weapon, the chase challenger issue, and still keep everyone happy and able to use their favorite sP earner, that is being ignored. Why not implement it? And all we're getting is because, and we'll figure out a way to fix the challenger issue, and deal with it there are other ways of earning sP/stop making so much.

And on that note I can't speak for anyone else, but I certainly didn't mean to complain about a lack of sp earning, so I apologize if my writing style reads whiney. I was just saying IH is my favorite way to earn. It's definitely the quickest/easiest for me personally. So lamenting that I have to choose between that and the big accomplishment you felt when you finally won is not complaining about not enough ways to earn sP. It's pretty much the same as restockers being miffed that they're messing with that. I was saving up to be able to go for that goal, and now I'll have to cross it off uncompleted or cut off my most dependable source of sP. I know people with billions of sP may roll their eyes because it seems like such a small source of sP, but with my playing habits I usually have trouble staying over 10mil sp in the vault. So it matters to me. I know there are other ways, but I like to earn sP that way. I think the diversity of earning methods is part of why gathering currency here is better/easier here.

I don't see the problem with compromise. Instead of allowing people to complete it over and over and get multiple swashies, and rather than re-restricting the game to once only and making people choose between using IH as income or for the pride/prize of achievement, keep the item tome as is, but make the swashie a one time achievement prize for beating the game 1 time (doesn't reset when you go back to level 1) rather than an in game reward. That way the Gilded Item Tome keeps it's favored purpose, the swashie re-inflates, people can get their ach/swashie and be free to spend 52mil to start over if they'd like to keep earning. Without the swashie incentive I'm sure not as many would, but the option would be there.

Also, if the tome is the new way to get Chase as a challenger, that would be frustrating. I def did not spend 52mil getting to level 75, I only go until the next 5 levels won't pay me back. I got lucky and pretty much earned sP all the way to that level, might have lost 5mil on the last one to get to 75. But then, that was before he was a challenger I guess. In the news post releasing him, staff encouraged everyone who had already won the game to buy the Gilded Item Tome to start over and be able to earn him...

I'm glad the change doesn't bother the people who have already beaten the game and made the decision to either leave it be or start over. But then it doesn't really affect them does it? What about the people who saved up and bought the item tome in anticipation for the day they finally beat the game and could start over but hadn't used it yet for whatever reason? (Stuck it in hoarding until they had a decent cache of sP saved up to go at the monster again.)

K, I'm done. Good Lord I write too much! D:

@LuckBurnside It was never intended for you to be able to restart the game after 100. To get Chase, you had to lose after 75. The Tome was to make it less of a blow. I honestly wasn’t even aware people were doing this until a UA brought it to my attention and asked me to put a note on the front page of the game about the tome. That’s when I talked with the BAs and they told me about the price of the godly. There has clearly been a miscommunication here over the years, but the point is still the tome was never intended to be used that way and the game was never meant to be able to reset after 100 (or we would’ve just … given you that option on the page to begin with?).

As far as making Chase a Challenger, we're still discussing it as a staff. We like the idea posted of just making the tome readable. One of the suggestions floating around via staff is just like bribing Chase to fight via Item Hunt main page.
