I LOVE the checkbox feedback for rejected pets, so I know what needs work when one of my pets is kicked out of the queue. I also like the idea of a forum for getting spotlight-readiness feedback, since I feel awkward making feedback threads in the regular pets forum.

But I HATE the user voting idea, especially the down-voting. (Maybe it's intended to mean ready/not-ready, but that's not how people will use it. It will, as everyone else has said, become a popularity contest.)

I'm going to keep working on my pets and entering them regardless, but I really hope staff listens to the user feedback they're getting on the voting aspect.

Something I&;d like to see implemented into the spotlight system is a requirement that the user who owns the pet needs to have completed at least one (maybe 2?) components of the page themselves. So, no winning for purchasing the layout, making someone else write the story, making someone else do the art, not doing your own treasure chest, etc. If this IS now a requirement (last time I checked it wasn&;t), then please feel free to correct me! c:

As someone who does every bit of her pets' profiles herself, I honestly agree with this. I get salty when I see a pet win whose owner didn't do anything themselves on the profile. That said, I doubt this would be made a rule because people would complain that it's unfair to those who can't write, draw, etc.

I think that might be difficult to do because someone could ask off site.

I really dont like the idea of users voting on pets. Turns it into more of a popularity contest. People with more friends ending up with more upvotes

Also, just to add some opposite thoughts(not that I disagree, just adding to discussion) on what magic has said, what about those who are not very creative? Would that mean that they do not deserve the spotlight? One could argue that time spent earning sP/CSC would be the same as time spent on a pet, no?
Also, even if something like that were to be implemented then how would it be policed?
People generally take a concept to the users designing the art/story/etc. right? So they'd have to be creative enough to come up with the basic idea, no? Therefore they should be able to pick out at least their own TC items, which is not something I ever realized that people might pay others to do for them??

Also if you don't do the profile/story/whatever yourself, you have to credit it anyway. If you don't credit it, then you're breaking a site rule so I would think most people would credit if they were interested in the spotlight in the first place.

- The only stipulation I have with your part is that a lot of people cannot do coding or art. Some just aren't creative for writing. A TC is easy enough, but these other ones just basically disqualify probably more than half the people.

I do get where you're coming from and yeah, I think users should be more interactive than just creating the pet and owning it. But disqualifying someone because they didn't draw a piece or art or code a profile themselves leaves like a handful of people in the community who can submit their pets.

Yeah, that's true, but it would mean people can't spam the forums by asking for it on-site.

is saying people should do at least one element themselves. So buying a profile and art would be fine, as long as you do the story yourself (or whatever one element you choose to do)

I think so far that everyone thinks the implementation of check boxes is a 100% go. (I too think that it's a splendid idea). Also sorry I keep posting, I'm just very opinionated about the Pet Spotlight x.x

No problem with adding opposing thoughts! Discussions can be very good things. :D Anyway, not to sound, well, cold and heartless, but one could argue simply that...if you can't do it, you don't deserve to win. I personally cannot play basketball very well. Should I complain I didn't get a trophy? No, because I can't play basketball! However, I can practice and improve my basketball skills until I am worthy of being a contender. Same can be applied to the spotlight. Not good at writing? This is a great chance to practice! Not good at art? It's okay, grab some paper and make some doodles, and soon enough your drawings will start looking better and better. The spotlight award should go to those who have practiced and perfected an artistic skill, such as coding, drawing, or writing, etc. Not to someone who can flash some sP. I'm not saying a user must do EVERYTHING. But they have to do something.

pinging you as well because I received your ping message as I was typing this, and it's similar to what was concerned about. ^_^

- Yeah I got that, but sometimes for some people just doing a TC isn't enough of effort put into a pet. :x

- I think the biggest problem people are having here is the users being able to vote. I think it reminds us too much of what Neopets did (and yeah,I know Subeta is not Neopets, I promise I know. <3 ) but we don't want to see Subeta head in that direction, make sense?

This is going to cause so much bitterness and popularity contest behaviour and it's just such a monumentally awful idea that I don't even know where to begin critising it tbh.

Why is this even needed in the first place?

Though spotlight queue has been remarkably slow recently. Me and a friend both had a pet kicked out the line within 2 days of each other - both were submitted approximately 5 MONTHS AGO.

I don't see anything wrong with the owner just doing the TC, personally. There's a lot of work that goes into finding fitting items, whether it's in the quantity or hunting down just the right things (or the fact that there are like 5 items onsite that fit your theme and you have to just roll with it and figure something out)

I strongly dislike the general upvote/downvote scheme--that's gonna be one ugly popularity contest and it'll drop a nuclear dramabomb on the community. I only support this idea if users are able to review pets and check off a list of checkboxes that indicate the pet is spotlight ready, then pets deemed to be without issues go into the queue and are dispensed randomly as normal. I still prefer the approval process being entirely staff-handled, though. Is it unfeasible to hire more people to take care of this? I'd work for free... ;x

- I do agree that it should be mandatory that at least one part should be done my the user and it should be put in the credts, for example "Profile by - user, story by - user, tc by - user", make sense? That way its shown that they did indeed participate.

I don't really understand why there's a need for this? From recollection, we don't have daily Pet Spotlight winners anymore due to there being a lower amount of pets in the queue. I would imagine this also means that there are less pets being nominated as well. Unless if that number has climbed up like in the past when the Pet Spotlight was first implemented. I dunno.

I'm all for that checkmarking feature that explains why a pet was booted from the queue. That's awesome, we've always wanted that. But user voting sounds like a big no-no to me. It most definitely sounds like a popularity contest. And I don't like the idea of a "downvote" option. I'm sure you guys have good reasons behind a downvote feature, but I feel like some people may use it not for critique but just because they simply don't like the pet. Some people leave nasty comments on the news post for pet spotlight winners as is, sadly. :/

I think you guys have good intentions, but I dunno, I'm not totally convinced yet. I think I may have came across as rude and I apologize, but sometimes user-votings lead to drama and popularities and those are kind of turn-offs to me xD

As for suggestions for a reward (if this does get implemented), I'm not sure if sP is the way to go, considering you guys are trying to come up with sP Sinks. (I mean, I'm dirt poor when it comes to sP but still). Perhaps offer achievements and forum titles instead? Or heck, you could something similar as you do with quests. We sometimes receive QuestPoints which can be used to purchase items from the Quest Shops. Perhaps offer something where we can get the chance to receive "____"Points and use them to purchase items from a shop like the Quest Shops? Course, this would require new items. Idk, just a suggestion.

That still leaves the policing part, how do you they didn't pay someone they know or someone off site to write the story for them or code it all? I think that part alone makes it a bit questionable IMO.

Also what categories would you split it into? Art, profile and story? Seems easy to cheese it too, I could pay to get everything done but be like, "hey, I made this little button on their page here so that means I did something."
