Strange request, I know. I need some art for my pet Homicide.
Since he's the representation of an entire Homicide department, I was thinking of a police bullpen. This is in a very strange semi-dystopian future so the bullpen needs to be a mix of traditional cop style and steampunk - with a nice healthy layer of grim over it all. I don't want bright and shiny, I want dull brass, dark woods, bits of stuff strewn over desks, full trashcans, metal police dogs, and an air of general resignation haha.
You can find references here but I'm open to all sorts of suggestion/artistic freedom. It can be one desk in the office with a bit of a view towards the rest of the room or it can be a panned out overview of the office. I'll need sections for the pet itself (still thinking of a word that would be comparable to android but meaning a dog robot thing jfc I'm sorry I'm so unorganized), pet friends (really there's only one, his companion pet, the lead detective of the Homicide Division), credits, case files (Story), and evidence (treasure) - so all of that will need to be taken into consideration when making the art so that there's some space for things to be hovered/faded etc.
ANYHOW THE IMPORTANT BIT: I can pay in CSC/USD/OTHER REAL CURRENCY PROVIDED THE EXCHANGE RATE ISN'T KICKING MY USD USING BOTTOM. Please ping me - references of background art would be fantastic but any references that show your style/skill will work.
[edit]FOR BETTER EXPLANATION BECAUSE HAMDA HELPED ME ARTICULATE WHAT I MEANT:
- any of you arting the art anymore?
omg . heh. sorry sweetie, this has nothing to do with your art work, EXCEPT... the reference picture you have (number seven.jpg?) PLEASE! May I use that as a reference for a Bar background i want? heh. it will still be a couple of months, before i'm able to start commissioning the items i want. but i was wanting a 'bar' type background for my "Tavern" and I LOVE this one!
with a green cherry on top?
:D
If you want I can sketch something out see if you like it. Im not sure I can do it in all honesty but I do some art and coloring for a friend. I can link those images if you want even personal projects x.x;
Of course you can!
I'd love to see some of what you did xD I didn't know you did art!
I... can offer, but for the level of detail/refinement you're looking for I'd have to charge around £100 and I couldn't do it for sP/CSC.
Normally my big paintings are £450+ for 1-2 character and the size of the full image is around 5000px^2 and at print worthy resolution, examples: One, Two, Three, Four (mech+concrete) (sorry for the small .jpg on that last one, it's not uploaded anywhere yet cos I'm keeping it secret from someone XD).
However if you just need a background for Subeta with no characters then I could do it slightly rougher and at around 2000px wide like this LINK.
Thank YOU Darlin!!
and I just have to say, , (and Excuse me, if this offends...but...) FUCK GUY! YOUR ART IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! and the Mech/Concr. one, OMG! OMFG!! I SWEAR it looks like a PHOTOGRAPH!
heh. i swear. i'm just sitting here staring at it. looking down that tunnel. the rain coming in through the hole in the roof. fantastic.
blown away
I like dragons, so I paint them? One is an OC, one is a tribute to SixthLeafClover's Liberated Phantasy which has inspired me since I was a kid. One is a commission of someone else's dragon OCs. All my other big paintings are mecha, but a bit older now, or dragons, because those are the examples I have and what people commission me for because I'm proficient at them.
Thank you =D that's nice of you to say.
oh I see, I remember you were into mecha before. you had some lovely bgs for them *which made me sad because I prefer your nature themed one ^^; *
they're lovely. my fav. is the one with the water ocean with the two dragons. I was staring at it for awhile last night :D
I do have multiple interests ;) I've been drawing dragons since I was old enough to hold a pencil, I love them. Thank you =D I'm very proud of that one.
maybe I should grab you for lessons. ;)
I'm getting into FR right now but since I mostly draw girls and dress I look at the art there and go -_-;
BTW love the subtle skulls in that one. the contrast between them and how gentle the dragons are treating each other is genius!
I can't do art lessons XD but I'm always open to redline or crit if you want me as a second pair of eyes.
I gave up on FR, not enough to keep me entertained, that and the dragon's anatomy is borked as hell and it makes me go crosseyed x_X
I can't claim too much credit for that, Baa stipulated what was to be included =P but it was right up my alley, as I could base the background on Merlin's Cave, which is local to me, I think it really shows that the environment in that one is one I know personally ^^;;
wait so the anatomy on FR is off? great so I don't have to wonder why my accents take on odd angles XD
it does actually, I like your other examples but this one of the ocean is different, it has alot of *for lack of a better word" feeling to it.
*steals some of your blood in hopes some talent is in there XD
Oh yes x_X aside from the broken tails and feet, I think the majority of the dragons on there have a far wing that's longer/larger than the near one ._. NeonDragon is one of those artists who got very popular, then stagnated. I learnt a lot from them back when I was drawing like this, but they've not developed or changed much since then, it's a shame, because they're a great artist, but they seem to have poor grasp on weight and perspective, and it /really/ shows with Flight Rising. Always a good reminder though, you're never too good to learn more =P
Apparently I'm a lot more in-tune with my local environment than I thought ;w; which is fine, for dragon-y art we have a very classical area, I hope to find more time to paint nice big paintings set around here. But with additional dragons XD
Sorry, no talent there, it's all in the studying =P
are you serious? you went from that to X___________________x
dude seriously :o
a friend told me about FR so I joined recently, volentureed some art there so working on it but the twists and turns of the dragon's bodys are... odd =/
I thought it was my fault since I tend to gravitated towards more girly stuff. well at least it's not me XD
fine. goes all iZombie on you and eats your brains!
It took time XD but I didn't just wake up one morning able to draw one way, and I certainly hope I still have a lot further to go P=
Male Pearlcatchers wings are probably the worst, but female Wildclaws look like they should be in a lot of pain = I'd be a bit more lenient considering it's 'just another pet site' but I know the artist is the same with their larger works too -- and as a published 'how to draw' author, they really should know better. That said ¬_¬... Hart is published too, and he thinks boobs are made of muscle not to mention the infamous Liefeld, good grief.
What your personal preferences for in art shouldn't effect your ability to be critical of things outside of your own work, I might draw 'girly' stuff once in a blue moon, but I can still see if the flow of cloth is off, or if the anatomy is wrong P=
Dude, go study, stop eating parts of my anatomy XD
How not to draw women 101:

what happened in that drawing O_o
ATTACK OF THE TITANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pearlcatchers have a very odd structure. everything about them is off to me -_-;
not that I can talk. I love skydancers and those look they would collapse by the weight of their wings if they were real XDD
Don't try to think about it too much, just try to forget all the poor kids trying to learn art from this guy's /many/ books. Rob Liefeld if you didn't know. I actually lost my shit the other week when I noticed one of Subeta's artists had managed a 'Liefeld Capt. American' chest on one of their pictures, I didn't know people did that, I thought Liefeld was enough of a cautionary tale XD I like to look at this list when I'm feeling bad about my work w
I love skydancers XD Ridgebacks are probably my favourites though. I mean I love the designs, but the execution is lacking.
I'm bookmarking that for when I start pulling my hair out over anatomy. XD
ridgebacks would have been seriously cute if the nose wasn't so deformed... Pinocchio is filing a lawsuit -_-;
it's sad, on first glance I thought the art on FR was really nice, now that I'm drawing accents for the dragons I start looking deeper and have trouble getting over the weirdness... oh well, going outside your comfort zone is still a good thing, I end up looking at different tutorials to figure out how to get certain things right. ended up looking at a tutorial of dragon scales the other day and it had nothing to do with what was on FR XD
It's good to surround yourself with art that inspires you and makes you want to draw. But I think it's also helpful to have a reminder for how you /don't/ want to draw XD
Aww, I like their goblin shark faces ;w;
Basically what I did, only for me it was commissions not accents, it's weird how much you can notice when you have to start breaking something down to draw from. Try to keep away from very specific tutorials and guides, nature has a huge variety of scales, and makes for better references than just one person's idea of a mythical creature's hide drawn in one or two ways. I really like shark scales ;w; Tutorials and guides are good for learning technical things, but less good for actually learning to draw certain things.
