Being a total jerk shouldn't be a punishable crime.
If it's some random item: don't buy it If it's a collectable? Screw them over and ask a staff member for a rerelease if it's really a pressing issue.

Rereleasing is always necessary. Stop it. If you think 5 all in one /two shops is enough not to rerelease, well, I guess it's safe to say I hope they never rerelease the Aemis in the Token Shop, by your logic. :) (screw you batttttlersssss)
Buying low, selling high = no prob. That's how you profit. Buy items here and there and sell them higher. But like... Monopolizing = mostly illegal in RL. It's actually a felony in the US. You don't control the entire stock. That's not okay.
Omfg why am I trying to clarify this topic it's not even mineeee. I also buy up cheap things for fragging/recycling. That gets them out of the system, more people will start buying the cheaper items (usually Main Shops) and that helps get sP and useless junk out of the way. That's /normal/. What I'm referring to (and assuming W_S is also, maybe, idk, I'll speak for myself) is buying up retired items from all shops and putting them in your shop for a ridic price ... ie monopoly.
Okay I'll give you an example: THERE IS A PARTICULAR MINION I HOARD. Actually, me mentioning that I hoard them once resulted in them /all/ being cleared from the market. About 20 given to me from friends, and idk the rest bought up by some dbag to spite me. Now, what if I always bought every one of them when they end up in the shop search? There were around 500 I think released. What if I decided I wanted to own all or damn near all of them? I could price them in my shop for 100mil when I bought them for anywhere from 10k-20mil. Oh, and if someone undercuts me, I'll just buy it from them, and put it in my shop until I literally own all of them. I could screw over every Minion Collector that joins the site from here on out.
Is that /fair/?
Okay I'm done posting on this topic. I just want some rereleases of items, that is all. [edit] ^^ omfg I'm trying to do that why won't staff listen to me ;-;
I thought this topic was about all items in general not retired items only. I meant no disrespect at all. The opening post didn't say anything about it being about retired items only. I understand what everyone is trying to say. Many apologies to you crawls under a rock and stays quiet ^_^.
A friend is someone who knows all about you and loves you just the same ❤.
If you have the funds to buy all 500 then idk I think that's fair, it's called you wanting them more than everyone else xD!
However, I would expect that when staff did a run through all of that type of item and realized that all 500 sat with one user/none for sale that it would definitely be rereleased. Which it, and any item in those circumstances, should be. Same for anything hyper inflated (like a token shop minion only being buyable for 75m, or basically anything in the BHH).
I support an open market, and I support value, however no one should support LONGTERM (keyword) false inflation. If staff released 500 of an item and you bought them all of them, then a year later they released 500 more and you bought all those too BUT then offered to sell two for 500m because they're the only two getting sold 5ever? That's a problem and I'd expect a board to be made and staff to give them away as a free gift.
Which is why I don't own, run, or operate a site because I'd do that xD
i would like to say if you dont want to buy an over inflated item or someone is hoarding an item i guess thats to bad for you if you dont like it dont buy it or dont play the game after all it is a game that you are playing and there are achievements for hoarding items ... if you find some that are lower priced and can buy them all up cuz you have the sp then more power to you eventually they will come back down in price ... So stop crying about it and move on

You could keep buying the minions under 100m but you're going to be taking a ridiculously large risk that simply isn't going to pay off. That's how it works. Anyone buying literally every instance of an item that's on shop search is certainly buying the ones that are overpriced, and presumably selling them for even higher, they're either not going to sell, or someone is going to put more on the market which may be bought by other people or they're going to be bought up by the monopolizer and if someone buys from the monopolizer, well then clearly the price was right for them. Literally monopolizing the market almost never pays off and almost always back fires, and again, the items are clearly still for sale in the end, so there is supply available, and that means a re-release is totally unnecessary since re-releases are generally to keep a supply of items not to regulate prices.
Oh no no no you're completely fine. Don't worry. :) I was in the SB for the convo and I /personally/ believe the issue is with retired items. So that's why I'm clarifying, on my own behalf. You're fine, don't apologize. Sorry I'm like super blunt and straight-forward. You're seriously okay. Go frag, girl!
THEY SHOULD NEVER BE RERELEASED. I AM EXTREMELY BITTER AND NO ONE ELSE GETS THEM. cries 5eva in corner
I will never sell them, ever. They shall be my army and we will take over the site, one day. Besides my example was just of a monopoly, not why things need rereleased. The instance that caused this board to pop up is based on the buying up of items where there are <5 total for sale, and now sold by one person.
Can we just like, fast-foward to this firing-back/not paying off and rerelease some stickers.
Well if there's an item with a lot of demand and such a ridiculously small supply (though if the person has 5 for sale and 300 more in the vault I'd consider that 305 for sale and not so few), I agree that a re-release is probably due :). I think the criteria for re-releasing things need to be heavily scrutinized though, and the factors of how many and at what cost need to be considered in relation to demand availability and current market value. If everythings properly assessed and there needs to be more than 5 of that sticker everyone wants, by all means re-release it even if I'm the one who has those 5 I'm trying to make a profit on.
Note to staff: Don't look in my vault and and don't re-release any of those items EVER, thanks :D.
NOTE TO STAFF: MIKE IS A MONOPOLIZER. BAN HIM 4LYFE.
I feel like collection items should always be considered for rerelease (plushies, beanbags, trading cards, etcetc as well as books and foods). These things get locked away/deleted when "used" and like, ain't nobody got time for that. Give us more. They have an entire achievement + forum title dedicated to completing all the collections, but at this current point in time, is it really possible to complete collections without the rereleases of multiple items? If there are only 5 of a beanbag for sale, and the rest are locked in collections or in the gallery of someone who hasn't been on for years (I've seen this happen, it is heartbreaking), basically only 5 people at that time are able to get one step closer (lol but is it really?) to completing that collection. What about the other however many people attempting it? So it comes down to not only how many are on site, but how many are for sale, how many could possible be for sale (in the accounts of active users not "used") and ... well that's it I guess. Idk I'm getting bored with this.
I'm about to just make a suggestion topic for a running list of all items that we need more of in the system.
I don't want this for all of the reasons and logic listed already. I do want a "Punch User in the face" button for the people who instead of haggling or being polite about your request for them to match the lowest price when they have bulk stock - they go and buy all the lower priced ones so you have no choice but to pay the higher price.
Those people are dicks. Clever little dicks who taught me to buy first then request discounts. Fucking dicks.

I'd be in favour of some way to stop people from cornering the market on non-RSable items, but I don't really know how it would work s:
Also: this thread:
I have my opinions about the free market in real life, but this is a website where everybody literally DOES have equal opportunity and there aren't really any consequences. So I don't mind letting the 'free market' just do its thing. I can't stand when people suggest making rules against hoarding or monopolizing because everyone is pretty much given the same chance to do it. Yeah sometimes it gets annoying if someone buys up all of an item just to drive up the price, but most items are freely available and it's really just that...a minor annoyance. Plus collecting stuff is a totally valid thing to do on a site like this.
Policing economic choices on a petsite is both impossible and pointless. Just because it's an annoyance or doesn't benefit you doesn't mean it should be against the rules.
e: I should add, most of the times I've bought up an item to raise the price it has completely backfired and I lose money in the end, if I can even sell the stupid things. Durrrr. So in my experience when someone tries to corner the market it tends to revert to the old price anyway. Waiting it out is honestly a better strategy than making some rule about it.
As much as I dislike people who do this, free market. They should be free to be douchebags if they have the money to do so.
I usually just buy from the person underneath unless it's significantly more expensive, that's my lil protest haha.
Edit: I agree with rereleasing certain items if they become way overinflated for what they are or there are literally none in the market and no other way of getting them.
best suggestion of 2015 pls implement immediately
cw ping group vesperwear for cw releases
I don't support this idea at all... Its not like I am biased or anything..
SPOILER (click to toggle)
But see, I don't see you as monopolizing. I see as having a heck of a lot more patience than I do, especially to hold on to Quentin's crappy items on the chance the price will rise ;)
eyes all the balloons in your shop Then again... ;)
If the supply is plentiful enough, it'll come down eventually.

I'm with on this. I think it would be stupid to make monopolizing against the rules.
especially since a lot of the 'fair' priced items are actually devalued items. I'll buy an item in NPC shops and it has like a 92 rarity or something high and it will be worth like 10k .... Rare things are usually more valuable... or at least they should be. Maybe I'm wrong and everything should be cheap and everyone can get whatever item they want easily.
It drives me nuts when people undercut to the point of devaluing an item and next thing you know an item goes from being with 50k to 220sp ~
Jealous! If i had known that the ornaments were used in quests from time to time I would have done the same thing... I debated it around christmas time but didnt for some reason hahaha
As a person who often buys up items and overprices them, I am completely against this. Monopolizing ain't easy folks...
