As someone who hoards random items on a whim, I'd be rather upset if this where to happen. I tend to enjoy being able to sell a small portion of my collections in order to fund the mass buying of more junk, otherwise all my sp goes in to battling and no awesome junk collections :(. The extra sp from inflated items is great, and besides which it comes with a big risk for any item since staff has a habit of re-releasing items especially if they're being hoarded. Also retired items just tend to go up in price with time, supply and demand and all that. Nothing wrong with anyone profiting on it either.

No support. Seriously, the majority of "monopolizing" I've seen on the shop search isn't priced at obscene prices. Something goes from 700 to 5k sp. BIG WOOP. It's not the end of the world. Not everyone has talent or real money to donate to the site. What's wrong with trying to earn your sp via restocking/reselling? It's not MY fault if people choose to undercut or sell things for something like 1k only to see it sold later for 10k. You wanted sp right away, you got what you wanted. If I choose to invest and wait weeks for the recycle beast to ask for x item, that's my prerogative. Sp is inflated now anyway. We don't need things going for 250 sp.

It's not about RSables. It's about retired items, esp CS items. Just thought I'd clarify that. :)

Still doesn't change my mind. The majority of what I've seen doesn't include super expensive retired items, but even those shouldn't be messed with imo.

...Wouldn't the choice be then to just not buy the super inflated item?

I absolutely thought the OP was talking about every single item on site, not just the CS items. Maybe that could be clarified if we're talking about a certain type of item.

I wouldn't mind if a closer eye were kept on the market to discourage this, but realistically, how could it even work? The Hustler's been improved and is getting better as a pressure valve for this, and the time it would take the staff to track down individual item prices and buying history to see and counteract monopolizing...I can't even imagine how it could reasonably work.

TL;DR - no support.

The thing about monopolies is they aren't majorities. They're singular entities setting the prices of the items since they own /all/ of them. In Subeta's case, it comes down to a user owning all of what's left in the buyable market. Others are locked in collections, locked in inactive account galleries and vaults, or no longer existent (in the case of foods and books).

I can think of two shops/users off the hop of my head with super expensive retired items who do this on regular basis.

While I don't think it's possible/feasible to monitor/prohibit, I /do/ think item staff needs to look into such items that are being artificially inflated and do a rerelease (but dear god no more TS/Crystal Shop)

[edit] In the case of collection items, it's a bit hard to just say "nah I'm going to pass on this" when you need it for the achievements. But when it goes from multiples at 15mil to multiples in one shop 50mil, I think rereleasing is the best option (everyone wins minus the monopolizer, and I love pissing people off)

I feel like a lot of the "monopolizing" being mentioned here isn't so much a monopoly problem as it is rarity verses luck.

Like the CS stickers or the CS gamble things such as chance bags or the Bento Box... I sincerely doubt someone went and bought all the Bento items just in a feeble hope they made billions. It's more like everything "chancey" on subeta sucks and is either ridic common or impossible to obtain so it's just that somethings are dirt cheap and others are unbuyable.

Personally, on the note of CS related things, I'd love to see the sticker packs and bento box returned for 125 csc a pop and let you pick what you want (I say 125 because the box gives you two randoms for 250). Or even 250 byt just let me pick the thing I want, I never waste money on chance things unless my existence pretty much depends on it/its half off.

Dude I would much rather sink my RL money or even sP into buying from the Site itself than a user who does this. ngl.

I see your point but I don't view achievements as a need. Some do, we all play the game differently, but I absolutely don't see the need to start hyper-regulating our economy based on who really really wants which achievements.

If someone wastes all their money buying up rares and then nobody buys them for the inflated price, who loses? That buyer.

I also think Subeta's been better at using the crystal shop/token shop/hustler/free shop to take care of some of these issues, I feel that they're more aware and responsive to this issue than they've been in the past.

Still no support.

Edit: I think Andrea's got some awesome points. Maybe if we figure out ways to get more of these items back in circulation, I think that's a better way than trying to regulate people's buying and selling habits.

Well technically we could get into how nothing on this site is a need. But it /is/ required for a complete collection.

Again, I have no support for this either, since it wouldn't actually work. BUT I still would like to see more items being reentered into the system (mostly as a FUU to these kinds of users. Is this what they call justice? I hope so.)

Naw. Being punished for something like that seems so... petty. That would be like people pricing stuff at 1sp getting in trouble because of autopricers. Naw.

Honestly, I like the idea of a free market. If I need something, I usually wait until it drops to a reasonable level. Some people may find that unfair, but the people selling have more resources and why should we punish them for that?

Absolutely no support from me. What would you want staff to do? Give verbal or official warnings? How could staff tell if someone is doing this maliciously or for other reasons?

I sometimes go on spending sprees buying up the "cheap" items for the Recycle Beast and for fragging FOR MY OWN USES... but how could the staff know I'm not doing it to resell? Sure my shop would be empty but what if it all sold quickly? Would the staff know if the warning was warranted?

This seems like a lot of unnecessary work for the staff for something that so minor to try and enforce.

I remember when all of the Asymmetrical Heathered Zip-Up's for the genetech were released... EVERY item used to make these sky rocketed to millions and the quantity was minuscule. But now there's more than enough to go around and practically at restock prices.

If the inflated item isn't worth the inflated price it will go down!

As long as some are available for sale, I don't think re-releasing is necessary. If someone anticipates an increase in demand and buys up a bunch of items and sells them at a higher price, they're taking a risk, and if you're not willing to pay that price, just wait it out. If everyone waits the price comes down, but likely people are going to buy the item because they don't have arbitrarily defined values of items stuck in their mind. That's called merchanting and any game with with an economy has it, and it exists all over real life (think:stock market, buy low sell high, it applies to so much more too). If subeta had a much larger player base I would even say it would be positively necessary to a large extent. But even without, it's a way to make profit and it's playing the game.

I buy items in bulk for recycle beast and crystal fragmentizer purposes. I also buy items just to help out another user who wouldn't normally get a shop sale. I never keep the items I buy in bulk on the shop search at low prices. I often buy from user shops to help other people out just for the sake of doing so. Items I buy get used and out of the system. If game prizes could be given to recycle beast, used in the crystal shop fragmentizer and asked for in quests a lot more items would be removed from the site. I was saving up to purchase the most expensive battle weapon in the recycle beast. If buying items in bulk is a problem then I will gladly give up the recycle beast and the crystal fragmentizer so there will be more items to go around for the site to enjoy ^_^.
