Today 10 years ago, we had a bad flood. Cars were floating. Thankfully my house is on a hill, and we suffered no damage, others were so fortunate.

Flash floods are scary...I'm on a hill too...we are 8 miles from the river and also 250 feet higher than the river itself.Even if there was a flood it would never reach here,not even an ice berg in the river could do it.

You choice your property wisely. Hubby told me, we had to find a house on a good size hill. Well we live on the top of a mesa ( a hill that has a flat top and steep sides and that is found in the southwestern U.S.) that use to be here, before the area was used for housing.

Good choice for you too...i only need to do one more thing to the house outside and that is to put up better rain gutters.I already have down spouts in place.So one in the backyard needs to be hooked up to a barrel to catch some rain water and i will have water even if it is drought...i only need one good rain to fill it.I may need to go find one more and then pile them up on top of each other vertically.I also am playing with an idea to put a large plastic container under the deck to hold more water.I would have to drain some off during the winter months so it wouldn't freeze and break...i'm still playing with that idea and how it could work.....

Your house is going to be so self sufficient, I like your ideas. More people need to think like you do.

Storm Honey Yall were wise to get your home on top of a hill., Ours is also on a a hill and would have to flood the whole town and more to ever reach us. Now when hubby talks about moving one day Iam like nope if its not on a hill like ours is now :)
