I saw him post that he thinks that the cash shop weapons should be more interesting, and it seems that by interesting he means a more complex custom code thing, I just don't think it ends up being that interesting in practice, its just a second set of tiers really.

Most of the cash shop weapons suck until they reach the final tier (RV MSOB CWS), or they are like trident where they are the most secondary healer in many tiers. But thats more of a historical artifact than purposeful game design.

I know a lot of people use Malignant Rift Staff in tier 11, but unless the stats are wrong on the weapon guide page it looks like it sucks for tier 9 and 10 (I could be wrong depending on how often that blessing activates.). So why not just make it a tier 11 weapon and make it easier to hover over to see stats at a glance, and reduce some complexity from the game

Trusty Blades seem pretty mediocre until pretty late.

Featherweight axe seems pretty mediocre even if you had a tier 7 with 2500 speed, but if it boosted speed by 500 every turn that would be something that would potentially be interesting, so that you could go from the really mediocre base stats and upgrade it over the course of 10 turns or something like that.

Bombs/Pure attackers like Core, Captured Eternal Flame, Hard Earth Battle Hammer are all hard to judge because they are some of the weapons that I would argue are already chronically underpowered even before you add some kind of secondary effect. Most of them are things you can't get without a lot of speed, but nothing that would make me go OMG I need speed in my build.

If I were designing speed based weapons, I think you need to look at them as an entire almost alternate set of weapons that are going to make up for the eventual cost of lower more traditionally stronger stats, because the alternative is a set of weapons that don't really encourage you to do anything different, its just an alternative tier system.

I'm pretty certain the rift staff hasn't had anything changed, but if you have any T9s and 10s, lemme know and I'll send over my rift staff if you want to test. =)

In all honesty, I think if the speed stat were changed to actually being more useful and a determinant in the likelihood of getting frozen or hit with a curse, then I'd be more interested in the speed-based scaling weapons.

And yeah, how come our opponents use weapons that boost their stats by 500-1000, and yet we have almost no weapons that boost stats by that same amount (except the Volatile OPB bomb)?

Having more weapons like that would be great for those trying to get a 10th win on the Impossible guys.

I have a rift staff, just no pets to use it :P

It really shouldn't be a function of is speed useful though. Because if speed is useful, everyone will likely have similar levels of speed, and if everyone has similar levels of speed why not just make the weapon vanilla, and let me hover over to see its stats. Otherwise I wouldn't say that something that is interesting, I would say that it is just complicated.

The concept of Tainted Keeper Skull Staff is something that I think is actually interesting, I would maybe tweak the numbers to be a little more relevant, but the concept is interesting. All 3 modes are good, but to optimize it you need to change the way you train.

Originally it seemed like the purpose of stat based weapons were to convince people to train evenly, and to discourage small pets from using the weapons. Now we have the tier system that is a hard counter to small pets using high end weapons. Now to make stat based weapons interesting, they should be used to encourage different builds, or else they could probably be left as vanilla.

767 stats till tier 12 for Lhyven. Slowly but surely we're getting there and I couldn't be happier. He just reached under the 300 rank as well.

I've always kind of liked just the traditional type of weapon over the scaling ones. Probably cause it's less of a bitch to test for everything it can do.

I don't like a lot of the scaling weapons because you have to screw up your build in order to get the best results!

I could not agree more. Everyone likes to build their pet the way they want to. This almost seems we are being geared to a a certain build.

plus, the weapons don't actually do near enough for it to be worth getting one of those terrible builds

It does seem like we are being pushed into a certain build. At times I wish they would just tell up what final build they want us to have so we can all look alike. That would save a lot of bad feelings when we are not so gently pushed into a different direction with our stats!

Isn't the only scaling weapon that would actually push you one way or the other the Tainted Keeper Skull Staff? And even that is still solid no matter what stats you have.

Otherwise they have all worked out to be more = better, and none of them push you to do something stupid like 15K STR/DEF or 10K speed.

That was the main thing I was trying to say. If a scaling weapon doesn't do something actually interesting, its just more annoying to test, and remember what it does, so it would be better as a vanilla weapon.
