Just putting in my two cents, I don't like this idea for a couple of reasons, mostly ones that have been mentioned before (ie privates are meant to be for people that you trust because they are obviously of some personal significance--although this gets abused a lot probably just so people can say yay we have privates) Anyway, my other point is built on the trade back to creator thing, sometimes when an item is traded back to the creator they then trade it on to another person that wants it, I have personally bought a no sell/trade item off a user with the permission of the creator to abide by the same rules. Essentially, if you create an item that you don't want getting around then give it to people who you trust and if it does get sold then appreciate that it is going to someone who really wants it. And how hard is it to keep track of a couple of items?

Nope I don't like this idea; if you want something to be truly private, pay for it yourself. Or give/sell copies only to people that you actually trust- true friends will respect your wishes.

Also I like that private items often have at least one public copy floating around, so there aren't many items that are completely unobtainable. If this is implemented and there will be completely unobtainable items, I don't think that they should clutter up the wardrobe when searching for "all items on subeta".

I'm not sure about having a permanent no trade/sell policy. Would it be possible instead to have a submitter admin page where you can assign the item to x users for a price? I only ask because sometimes I sell things to friends who later can't use them but have a friend I know and trust that would like to buy it. It just seems a shame to lock "private" into one user where at the moment we can move things around groups of friends. Especially as these groups change and it's a shame for people who make friends later to miss out on things.

here is my opinion on it...

this is just asking for more headaches and drama and people getting all butt hurt. If someone wants it to truly be private, like many others have said....only sell to people you trust or just pay for it all yourself.

So if this were to be implemented, would Subeta be limiting how many batches of these official/non-official private items were released? Because frankly, I could release a new CW and mark it as private but have unlimited batches. No one could resell it (or presumably pawn it) and I could just keep making csc hand over fist on my item that really is not private but no one else can resell.

Honestly I'm not for this at all. I know people want privates but they usually have a set of people in mind when they release it and they usually trust those puerile. Ultimately some sellers decide that even if it is a private that people can trade it with their permission or something. So raising the price doesn't do much but raise the worth of the item. Even if after the fact it becomes a not tradeable item.

I mean I guess I agree with everyone about the private thing, it shouldn't be used as a label to boost their items worth, but I still don't know if I agree with locking an item down to the account for an extra cost.

I don't think it's a good idea. I totally agree with what others are saying about privates, if you want it truly to be private then give it out to people you trust/just your friends. And I don't think there is really anything we can do about the people selling a private as a public because yes most of the times it is a rouse to get more CSC out of an item. If you really don't like the idea of it then don't invest in it, but I doubt this will stop it.

but that's why they have the rule that you can't lie about how many batches are available, and even so, when slotting and you get the ping for said item they see it's unlimited so they could just drop the slot. I would also assume they would implement a batch limit for these privates like no more than 6-10 batches our something.

Has it really come to such an issue that staff have to step in on the idea of private items?

that's an interesting idea. I would actually support it. some items are made private for sentimental reasons so it hurts to see them sold for really high prices later... :(

I'm normally all for giving people more options, but I think I'll have to go with the "no" for this one :c

I can agree with the people who said it would have been an interesting option if it had been there from the get go, but right now, considering how people may choose to deal their privates*, I don't think it's worth the coding trouble...

*The downsides to this, already mentioned by other people:

  • Can't cycle items between friends (when a friend can't use it anymore and another one wants);

  • If items can't be returned, people are left with a sunk cost there. I know many people don't mind, I wouldn't mind if I was the one paying, but, as the distributor, I'd rather it not happen;

  • Potential issues when privates aren't submitted the regular way, namely if I am footing the whole bill and using them as gifts OR if I am commissioning an item (which I'll submit myself) and gifting all copies to a person so the item is effectively their private / for their friends.

The fact that I wouldn't use it doesn't mean other people wouldn't, which is why I was considering the good aspects of this until another downside hit me...

Quote by Jessi
Keith and I have been talking about it for a while and he said this feature is possible with the new wardrobe

...but but but ;-; JESSI HOW ABOUT THE PET PEOPLE -cry- On the few occasions I've privately distributed items (or commissioned privates) there has always been a fair chunk of my friends who wanted them for TCs D:

If Keith thought about making these items account-bound like the "shared" items (within forum groups) in the new wardrobe, then it's a definitive no for me, because my friends need to put those pretty icons on their pets' TCs :c

*Downside:

- Save the pet people ;-; !!

It would have to be something like the battle eggs / loyalty boxes (actually I don't even think we can TC those?!), which makes me think it would take FAR too much coding for FAR too many items... on a feature not everyone would use, given the other negative implications.

I personally think it would be good if, through assigned slots, there was a rule upon payment that if not given permission from the user submitting said item "such and such warning" will happen to you. Kinda like how the slotting items and limiting batches work I guess? Have the warning upon payment and if the user sells and claims they didn't read ect then in the end it's on them.

I don't like the idea for a lot of the reasons mentioned. What about instead of locking to an account, the creator gets a ping when the item leaves the buyer's account?

Ahhh! At the same time, no one really knows what happens behind the scenes - im going to assume that for you / subeta to consider the idea, it means you've had to break much more fights between users than we can think of lol

I personally believe that, even if the no sell/trade remained an option, it would create discord in the sense that the user utilizing it could get criticized by their friends for 'not trusting them and thus using the feature'. Then again, I think most people do not understand that whenever a copy is 'publicly auctioned', it means atleast one copy is -free for all-. The true definition of 'private' is something a lot of users disregard nowadays, and may be the reason why such feature would be interesting.

(once again, this is an ethic / trust issue I see here!)

Hello! I fully support this idea, given some alterations to the initial concept. I think that in order for this to be viable and accepted (not to mention appreciated) there would have to be some differences between a private CW and a totem/loyalty box. With the loyalty box there is no way to sell/trade it ever, and this seems too extreme for a work of art. If there was a way to code the private CWs so that the creator could grant temporary access to trade/gift I believe this could work amazingly! This would allow private CW owners to request a sellback to the creator, or (as I know sometimes happens) the ability to sell it someone else, etc. etc. If there was a way to password protect the account transfer options (trading, gifting, etc.), similar to the custom wearable shop passwords, that might work?

Wouldn't alerting the creator only cause more discord? If they know who sold their private, and when, it would cause increased tension between the two users.

I see no reason why not -- if staff creating a privatizing system will cut down on the reselling drama, that's almost incentive enough ;) Unless items are locked in your wardrobe. I have a (public, thankfully!) CW in one of my pet's treasure chests, and I'd hate to lose that ability!
