- Report time! How did everyone do with writing last week? I wrote a lot and then deleted the majority of it. So in the end, I pretty much failed at my goal. I think I'll stick to the same amount of words this week (1.5k) and see what happens. Hopefully you've all been doing much better with your own goals =)
Thanksgiving weekend, going to visit family, I doubt I'll get any writing done, but let's just go with 1k anyway, it might happen!
I failed my measly goal of 500 this week.
lol, that's happens to me all the time. I fill out a sheet and then I start writing and all of the sudden my character isn't how I planned them at all. It's like "Where the heck did you even come from." lol
I have characters do that too, pop up out of nowhere but then I become so fascinated by them that I make sheets for them in case I want to tell their story later in the future. I totally get what you mean about a new shelf. I just moved and downsized a lot so all of my books are still in boxes cause my only tiny bookcase has all my research materials, journals, and DVDs. XD
I also didn't make my goal this week but it's because I had the best week since moving here! I've been job hunting and literally giving up hope on ever being hired when out of no where I got a call from a shop 2 neighbors over for a managing position I didn't even apply for but someone I did apply for was so impressed by me and my resume that she passed it on to her. My interview went great and Thursday is my birthday so even my writing failure can not get me down!
- Yeah! ... wait, we shouldn't be celebrating. lol.
- Congrats on the interview/job (you didn't post if you got it or not)! It's so hard to find one these days, nice to know you can still catch a lucky break!
I haven't got it yet I have to be interviewed by the DM first but when the manger called her to try and set one up she asked her "Do you have to interview her? Can't I just hire her and start her training?" I'm taking that as a really good sign. I will know in a week when the DM comes back from her business trip. :D
Congrats on the interview =) I know how tough it is to look for employment. I've also been doing my fair share of job hunting these days. It hasn't been very fruitful though.
- That does sound good! I hope you get it!! Maybe I should get you to help me with my resume, it's pretty craptastic.
Thanks. I know what you mean, I didn't realize how hard it was to get a job because when all this economy stuff happened I had already had a very steady job, two in fact. So I thought it wouldn't be that hard to find more work when I quit my job and moved 3000 miles away. I've been at it for months, keep your head up it'll happen.
I know I'm super excited and can't wait for my second interview! Here's hoping, I'm crossing my fingers and toes, lol. I could help but to be honest my sister, whom I'm living with at the moment, who also makes up resumes and that type of stuff for a living put mine together with me. The only thing I learned from her, because it was the only thing that was interesting, is how important the type of paper you use is. Which is true because my interviewer commented on my "pretty blue cloud paper." lol!
Yeah I know what you mean. I also had a pretty steady job back then and it never really occurred to me that I'd want to leave it someday. It's a good thing I don't have many expenses at the moment or I'd be totally broke. I'm still pretty hopeful I'll find something, I never stay out of a job very long :)
- Well, this potential employer wants me to email it, so the type of paper isn't gonna make much of an impact, but that's a good hint for if I have to paper apply again! My resume is pretty lack lustre, I don't have any actual work experience in the optometry field other than my externships I have to do for school. I dunno how to go about making my resume more interesting for that. I wish I could say stuff like I've participated in research projects, or gone to conferences, or joined associations, but I haven't done any of that. I can't believe that the other people in my class have time to do those sorts of things. I don't look very good on paper >.<
I'm the same way, because I'm living with my sister I only have to cover food at the moment, which is nice. I thought I'd be able to slip right into a new job no problem because I had great references and had been working at the same job for years and had been promoted a few times at said job but when I got here fast food didn't even want me. I'm glad this interview came along and out of no where. I'll send you massive positive job thoughts. :)
lol, email. That puts a damper on paper. If you want I can ask my sister what would be the best approach to your situation. You'd be surprised, I thought I looked awful on paper too but once she was done with my resume I looked amazing.
I love when stuff just happens out of nowhere lol that's really how I got hired at my two previous jobs. I'm really just applying for anything remotely interesting and hoping for the best. Thanks for the positive vibes! I'll be sending some your way as well. Hopefully you'll get that job =3
lol, I know, I thanked karma for finally rewarding me for not freaking out on everyone that questioned, rather rudely, as to why I would ever move away from the promised land, but it's not really, that is California. lol. I knew people at my old jobs cause the town I came from was really small. I applied for anything but the job I interviewed for I didn't apply for someone passed my resume on to them, which was the nicest surprise I could get my birthday week.
Hmm, warm positive vibes, lol.
Your positive thinking must've worked :o I got an interview lined up for tomorrow! =D I sent them my resume yesterday morning and they called me only hours later. I'm pretty amazed. Can't say I'm sure I'll get the job, but I'll still take that as a good sign. It's really sweet how that happened for you. That's how I got my first job, really. I applied in a store but they couldn't hire me so they passed on my resume to another location, which then hired me without interview. I love when stuff like that happens, it's like life hands you a lucky penny =)
Oh good! I'm so excited for you! I'll keep the positive vibes coming! lol, that's pretty sweet, wish I wish they would have hired me without interview, that's my weakness I shoot myself in the foot all the time but this one did go really well they didn't ask any open ended questions that I have such a hard time with and hopefully the DM won't either. It seemed they had it down to a science.
Here's hoping your interview is beyond amazing and you get the job! positive good luck vibes
Thanks =) The interview went okay, but I wasn't on my best day. My hair would just not cooperate and I kept forgetting my things on the way there (I left the binder where I keep my resume and references on a bench at the bust station, and then left my purse in a washroom) so I was running around a lot right beforehand. And then all of the extra activity made me kinda sweaty, which didn't look very good at all once I actually got there. I'm kinda hoping I did well enough to get the 2nd interview, but I'm not banking all my hopes on it.
