The following posts are 's original guide split into a few posts whilst we wait for the dissappearing OP issue to be resolved Hope this helps in the meantime.

All content below is by only, I am just helping repost it whilst it's not visible.

Welcome to the Battle Community! [Last Updated 12.25.16]

I’m your host, and this is the revised edition of A Guide to the World of Battling.

Whether you’re new to the site or simply looking for a new hobby, look no further! Battling is a fun and rewarding experience, bound to net you some nifty high scores and exclusive loot items, and in this guide, I will provide the basics of Subeta’s battle system and helpful advice for those looking to raise a battle pet.

We now have an official in-depth guide to battling, accessible in the Battle Coliseum link headings. However, I will still maintain the forum version of the guide, and I can even go more in-depth than what the official guide has. ;)

] 12/25/16 edits: I'm not sure why my post's content is disappearing at times. Everything is still technically here when I go to edit the post, but why it doesn't stay, I've yet to figure out. I'm going to be away for a few days, but when I get back, I'll get to the bottom of the problem.

For now, if it disappears, I apologize for the inconvenience; it is really annoying for me too.

Section 1: Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? Here's a list of some Q&A's regarding the BC! -----------------------------------------------

I haven't battled in a long time, but I'm getting back into it now. What's changed?

So far, the best compilation of what has occurred in the BC over the last 4 years can be found HERE

Where is the healer? Yeah, this is still a pretty common re-occurrence for users. The Healer can be found in the Sacred Lands, right outside the Sacred Lands Souk.

Apparently she’s Waldo’s cousin…or a troll.

How do I know if an item is a weapon? Two ways; you can hover over the item and if you see "Tier:" listed, then that is a weapon! Alternatively, when clicking on items in your inventory, the options "Move to Armory" or "Equip to PETNAME" are available if it is a weapon.

Were do I mod my weapons? When you're in the armory, you should see the "Click here to modify your weapons." link above Your Weapons.

How do I know what tier my pet is? Two ways; you can add up your pet's Strength, Defense, Health, and Speed numbers, and check the list of tiers I have posted down in section 2 of this guide, to see which range your pet's total stats currently fall. ...or you can simply view all of your pets and their tier will be listed below their Intelligence stat. :p

Currently, the system has 13 tiers, T1 as your starting point and T13 (including capped pets) being the highest.

How do I advance my pet's tier? Train. This is the simplest, most effective means of advancing your pet's tier. There are other ways to increase your pet's stats, and as you read on, you'll begin to understand why training is easily the best method.

How far is my pet from reaching the next tier? Here is the ASAP breakdown from T1 all the way to T13:

Tier 1: 40 minimum (min.) Total Stats Tier 2: 300 min. Total Stats Tier 3: 600 min. Total Stats
Tier 4: 1,200 min. Total Stats
Tier 5: 1,800 min. Total Stats Tier 6: 2,600 min. Total Stats Tier 7: 3,400 min. Total Stats

Tier 8: 4,400 min. Total Stats Tier 9: 5,400 min. Total Stats Tier 10: 6,400 min. Total Stats Tier 11: 8,000 min. Total Stats Tier 12: 12,000 min. Total Stats Tier 13: 22,000 min. Total Stats

Simply subtract your pet's totaled stats from the minimum required amount for the next tier. For a more in-depth breakdown, scroll down to section 2 of this guide. :D

Hey, I did all of my quests earlier/doing my quests right now, but all of a sudden they've been reset/my quests still haven't been reset! What's going on? Most likely the cron is out-of-sync and anything that resets at midnight (quests, dailies, vending) will simply not happen.

What's a cron? Think of the cron like a cog in a clock. When everything is functioning normal, the cog runs smoothly along the others, and at midnight, all of your dailies and quests reset for the next day to be completed.

Occasionally, though, something may get caught in the cog or it gets out of rhythm with the other cogs, so when midnight hits, the reset doesn't happen. The clock is "stuck" on the day before and can't reset.

Fortunately, our admins can kick the clock to unstuck it for a while, and everything gets reset at a weird hour, like 9am. The unfortunate part is making sure the cron cog doesn't get stuck again, so the programmers make certain that the cron is functioning as it should, so occasionally multiple resets will be made throughout the day.

For battlers, all this really means is more BQs, thus more EXP to earn. More GY quests, more chances of getting mage amulets. And more Shinwa for more chances of getting her stat boosters. Reap the benefits!

What does INSERT STAT HERE do? Section 2 of this guide delves in deeper, but essentially, here's the breakdown.

Health: Your pet's endurance. If knocked down from 100 Hit Points (HPs) to 0 in a battle, your pet lost. Strength: Your attack power. Larger attack = more damage Defense: The opposite of attack. Larger defense = less damage dealt to your pet Speed: Corresponds with the critical hit system, and how quickly blessings/curses are activated. The least important of the main 4. Intelligence: Read lots of books to your pet, they'll get smarter. Smart enough to use another type of weapon, called Scrolls (more on that in section 3). Level: Even more useless than Speed. Only useful for determining which stats you can train at the center, and how much the training session will cost.

Where can I find a list of good weapons for my pet's tier? My friends , and I worked very hard to compile a list of the site's best weapons, and you can find it here: The Weapon Guide

What's a stat cap? As of May 2015, the current stat cap is a 35k total stats. Level and Intel DO NOT count towards the cap.

How can I find out what rank my pet is? It is that floating number to the far right of your pet's name. It will not have the word "rank", it'll simply be a random number. That number tells you where your pet's overall stats (includes intel and level) ranks compared to the total number of pets existing on the site.

My 100% healer did not work! There are three possible reasons for this:

1.) The opponent you're fighting has healing disabled (this is discussed further in section 4.1). 2.) Your opponent did more damage than your 100% healer covered. (if your pet has 450 total HPs healed back, and your opponent does 990 damage, that means 540 damage still got through and killed your pet despite using the 100% heal) 3.) You simply forgot to or didn't click to use it that turn. Check to the left of the battle text to see which weapons you've used that turn, as well as your damage and healing output.

My pet is not showing up in the dropdown list when I go to the challenge page. First, make sure the pet you want to battle with is fed, happy and not at 0 HPs. For conveniences sake, simply put your battle pet(s) in the resort to keep them fed for 21 days, give them a minion to keep them happy all the time, and use the healer as mentioned above.

If your pet is healthy, well-fed and happy, then check to see if they're already in a battle. It's very easy to walk away from a battle and forget it. I've done it before. You can check here, under the Statistic's Page.

Finally, if you just received your pet from a friend, there is a 30-day waiting period before you can battle with it. It's a preventive measure to keep people from transferring/abandoning pets nonstop, aka lending out, for events. (However, lending and borrowing weapons is allowed!)

Another penalty to be aware of is the 10% stat-reduction. However, it is believed to only affect T11 and T12 pets.

Occasionally, if you've just lost in a fight and quickly heal your pet, your pet may not appear on the Choose Weapons page when you go to fight the opponent again. Clear your cache and do a hard refresh (ctrl+F5). Sometimes the site lags, and it may take up to a minute for the site to catch up.

If your pet is healthy, full, and not in a battle, then File a Ticket. The UA's are super nice, and can figure out why your pet is stuck.

Special notice: If you use Malerias Clawed Glove in battle, it has a chance of making your other pets (the ones not in battle) hungry/depressed or knock them down to 0hp.

I have more questions, but I don't see it listed here. You can always ask around the battle forum if you're still confused, or you can check the in-depth guide's larger FAQ.

]
Section 2: Training Stats

2.1 - Training Your Pet How to get a strong pet -----------------------------------------------

The best and most efficient method in raising a battle pet is training. Consistent training pays off; it is possible to get a Tier 4 or 5 in a few months, and a Tier 8 or 9 in less than a year! Even if you don’t plan on being a full time battler, it doesn’t hurt to just invest a little time; considering the amount of events Subeta has per year, usually including baddies for battlers to beat up, having a trained pet can net you some unique, exclusive wearables, minions and other various rewards. ;)

There are several ways to train your stats, but the best and most reliable way is the Training Center in Riverside, as seen here...

Click for bigger image...and beware Pete’s unhealthy but tasty hamburgers.

The center’s instructor, Jim, will train any pet for a small fee. After all, physical fitness is important!

Jim can train your pet’s Level, Strength, Defense, Health, and Speed. He can only train the last four stats to 2.5 times your level. Only the stats you can train at your current level appear in the drop down list, so more than likely, if you’re just starting with an untrained pet, you’re probably not going to see anything except Level at first. Training costs 45sP x level. So if you're level 10, for example, it'll cost 450sP.

If you’re willing to pay 25 CSC extra, you can enroll your pet into auto-training, in which your pet will receive X amount of sessions in a 24-hour period. This is useful in that your pet will automatically be put into the next session after completing one. When the time period is up, you’ll receive a notification:

(!) Be careful when auto-training Level. As your pet’s level increases, the cost of training starts to rise. At certain intervals, higher-leveled pets require more time to complete a session. This in turn affects the amount of sessions you’ll receive in auto-training.

If you have an active Gold Account, there’s a 15% reduction in training time. (To calculate, just multiply the listed minutes by .85)

Other ways to increase stats:
Battling an opponent rewards your pet with EXP for every win, even after the 10th win.

The cost of EXP for each stat will increase as your pet achieves higher tiers.

Stat Boosters AKA steroids for your pet to consume. A comprehensive list can be found HERE. (for an even more in-depth guide, check out MrCool’s blog post HERE)
Others Job Agency: occasionally grants your pet a bonus stat boost.

Scratchcards, Coin Machine: may win or receive a stat boost to your active pet. Make sure you keep your battle pet as your active pet!!

Oracle: She’ll pop up randomly and ask you for an item. Get it for her, and she’ll reward you by increasing one of your active pet’s stats! It’s highly recommended to have the Oracle Widget active, so you don’t miss her.

Complete Shinwa’s daily quest and she may just grant you 1 or even 2 stat boosters! (if she doesn’t, feel free to call her “seacow”)

Quentin may reward you with a Mage Amulet when you complete his quests… …which the Mage may or may not turn that amulet into a tome!

2.2 - What Stats Do the quick rundown -----------------------------------------------

If you’ll notice, there are several stats on your pet. Here’s what they do.

Level- Does nothing in terms of battling. It just determines how high you can train your other stats, how much your training will cost, and how long.

Health/HP- Pretty basic. How much damage you can take before you die. Very important stat. Your health stat affects how much you’ll gain back when healing during a battle. The higher your health, the more HP you’ll heal back.

Strength- Strength determines how much damage your pet will do. More icons will obviously do more damage, particularly if your opponent does not block a certain element (more on that later).

Defense- Defense is the exact opposite of Strength. The higher your defense, the more icons your pet will block.

Speed- Speed determines critical hits. Pets with low speed receive more critical hits and deal less crits. On the contraire, pets with higher speed can dish out more criticals and receive less crits. However, on June 18, 2014, unevenly built pets with neglected speed can now get a chance to crit. The opponent crit rate is capped at 90%, which leaves you with a meager (but existing) chance of 10%. Higher speed also contributes to the activation rate of blessings and curses.

Intelligence- The only stat you can’t train. Reading books to your pet, playing Mystic Spindles, or stat boosts can raise Intel. There are an odd few weapons that depend on intelligence, but they’re pretty few and far between (and really not worth buying). Intel’s main use is for equipping Scrolls. Scrolls require Alchemy Points in order to be equipped. This will be discussed further in the Advanced Battling section. ;)

But we're not quite done with pet stats yet! The next section (literally) sums up the main 4 stats into what we call tiers.

2.3 - Figuring out Tiers The only thing keeping your pet from world domination -----------------------------------------------

The battle system was a bit different than what it is today. Previously, any pet could use any weapon, so an undertrained pet could maim impossible opponents with overpowered weapons. If you couldn’t shell out billions of sP for the best weapons, you weren’t going to get far. Fortunately, staff found a solution.

In June 2012, Tiers were introduced and implemented straight away, which meant those undertrained pets could no longer use weapons above their tier. While this initially caused uproar in the community, the tiers system has proven to be an effective and integral part to battling.

So what is the Tier system, and how do you figure out how to advance in it?

The tier your pet is in depends on the total of your pet’s stats, so all you need to do is add your stats up. Health, Strength, Defense, and Speed count towards your tier placement. Level and Intelligence do not. To raise your tier, train your stats.

Here is the breakdown from T1 all the way to T13 (again):

Tier 1: 40-299 Total Stats (approx. Levels 1-30 and 10-74 in each stat) Tier 2: 300-599 Total Stats (approx. Levels 30-60 and 75-149 in each stat) Tier 3: 600-1199 Total Stats (approx. Levels 60-120 and 150-299 in each stat)
Tier 4: 1200-1799 Total Stats (approx. Levels 120-180 and 300-449 in each stat)
Tier 5: 1800-2599 Total Stats (approx. Levels 180-260 and 450-649 in each stat) Tier 6: 2600-3399 Total Stats (approx. Levels 260-340 and 650-849 in each stat) Tier 7: 3400-4399 Total Stats (approx. Levels 340-440 and 850-1099 in each stat)

Tier 8: 4400-5399 Total Stats (approx. Levels 440-540 and 1100-1349 in each stat) Tier 9: 5400-6399 Total Stats (approx. Levels 540-640 and 1350-1599 in each stat) Tier 10: 6400-7999 Total Stats (approx. Levels 640-800 and 1600-1999 in each stat) Tier 11: 8000-11999 Total Stats (approx. Levels 800-1200 and 2000-2999 in each stat) Tier 12: 12000-21999 Total Stats (approx. Levels 1200-2200 and 3000-5499 in each stat) Tier 13: 22000+ Total Stats (approx. Levels 2200-3500 and 5500-8750 in each stat)

Keep in mind that the examples in parentheses assumes your pet’s stats are evenly trained. If you train one stat, and ignore others, it's going to fall a little differently. Regardless of how evenly-kept your stats are (or not), the total defines your pet’s tier.

Evenly-Trained versus Unevenly-Trained Let’s say I owned a T10 with relatively even stats (+/-5 point difference):

Health: 1630 Str: 1624 Def: 1627 Spd: 1625 Total: 6506

Keeping an even build is a good way to keep track of how far your pet is from reaching the next tier. However, remember how I mentioned earlier the importance of Health in the stats debrief? You may want to consider putting a greater emphasis in boosting it higher than your other 3 stats.

Let’s look at Elfric, my previously-T10 Kumos:

Health: 1900 Str: 1740 Def: 1739 Spd: 1730 Total: 7109

Notice how much higher I’ve trained his Health stat? I’ve kept his other 3 stats in close approximation to each other. I tend to favor Strength and Defense over Speed, as he can generally outspeed opponents appropriate for his tier.

So which build is better?

Short answer: None.

Long-winded answer: When starting out, train evenly. Challengers in the Easy to Hard difficulty range all have fairly even stats. It’s much easier doing this until you reach Tier 6 or 7.

In later tiers, most battlers prefer putting greater emphasis on Strength and Health, and typically train Speed to 3667 so Prodigy will no longer be able to crithit. But ultimately, there is no right or wrong way to train.

No two builds have to be alike, and having a variety of builds can put a whole new spin on the challenges of battling.

However, keep the stat cap in mind; it is, as of May 2015, 35k total stats. Once again, only the main 4 are counted. Level and Intelligence do not put you any closer to the cap.

2.4 - Weapon Basics What do I do with them?! -----------------------------------------------

This isn’t a weapons guide. There’s already one of those. If you’re looking for what weapon to buy, check out The Weapon Guide. This guide just points out what the weapons do and how to read them.

To start off with, there are nine elements on Subeta.

:dmg:dark: Dark :dmg:earth: Earth :dmg🔥 Fire :dmg🧊 Ice :dmg:light: Light :dmg:magma: Magma :dmg:physical: Physical :dmg:water: Water :dmg:wind: Wind

Each weapon will either attack or block with these elements. If it's attack, it'll appear like a plain icon (:dmg:physical:). If it's defense, it'll have a red X through it (:block:physical:).

It’s really important to pay attention to what elements your opponent specializes in. If they block a lot of Earth icons, for example, it’s not going to do you any good to bring in a weapon that does a lot of Earth, as they’ll just block a lot of your damage. On the flip side, if your opponent does a lot of Ice icons, it can really help to bring in a heavy ice blocker.

Weapons do more than just attacking or blocking icons, though. Some weapons freeze, heal, and/or have curses or blessings that have a chance of activating. Some will boost your defense/strength/speed, and others will scale with your pet’s tier. Check’em all out!

In order to use your weapons in battle, you need to first put them into your Armory. You can do this by clicking on the weapon in your inventory and choosing ‘Move to Armory’, or by quickstocking it in there.

Your armory is where you’re going to manage your weapon arsenal. You can hover over them to see what the stats are, and what mods you have attached to them. There’s also an option to add weapons to your Default Weapon Set. You can bring up to eight weapons into battle. Some weapons have a Healer, Stealer, or Freezer label, meaning you can only have one of each in your set at a time.

(click for bigger image)

You may notice some weapons have mod slots. Those allow you to add mods to them, which can add damage or defense, protect you from freezing or stealing, increase your chances at critical hits, or add blessings and curses, among other things. You can find a sub-section dedicated to mods in the aforementioned Weapons Guide.

]
Section 3: Advanced Battling

3.1 - Alchemy Points and Scrolls -insert your own Fullmetal Alchemist reference here- -----------------------------------------------

Now let’s get a little more advanced in weaponry by focusing on scrolls. With the extra damage, healing, freezing, and stealing scrolls can provide, they can really make a huge difference in a tight battle.

Scrolls equip differently than weapons, however, in that your pet needs to have enough Alchemy Points. Alchemy Points (AP) are earned through your pet's intelligence stat; as your pet becomes more intelligent, they'll earn more AP, thus able to use more powerful scrolls.

So how do you train a pet's intel to get these alchemy points? You don't necessarily train your pet's intel, by instead giving them books to read.

Granted, the info provided in this book is severely outdated... -Elfric
You get 1 AP for every 16 Intel points. Currently, it’s a little bugged so that the Alchemy Point is only awarded if the 16th intel point is gained through a book. If you missed it (boosted intel through a stat booster or some other means), no worries. Next time you gain an Alchemy Point by reading a book, you’ll retroactively get all the ones you missed.

Scrolls are actually rather important, and any serious battler will want to invest in them. Each scroll requires a certain number of Alchemy Points (AP) to equip. You can equip as many scrolls as you want at any tier, as long as you have the Alchemy Points to do so. For example, let’s say your pet has 8 AP. You could equip one scroll that costs 8AP, or a combo of a scroll that needs 5 AP and 3 AP. You can never lose Alchemy Points, it’s just a number that shows how much power your pet can handle.

As for scrolls, you can either buy them from user shops, or create them at the Secluded Shine, found here...

There are five levels of scrolls you can see to make. Every 5 AP your pet has allows you to see another level, and the pet needs to be your active pet in order for it to register. So once you have 20 AP (320 Intel), you can see and make everything in the shrine. If you see a scroll that you want, but your pet doesn’t have enough Intel for you to make it, don’t despair. Simply ask someone here on the battle forum, and as long as you’re willing to provide/compensate for the ingredients, usually somebody is more than willing to make one for you.

Finally, some scrolls cannot be brewed. These unique scrolls can be won through plot-/event-/seasonal-opponent battles. To see a list of all the scrolls and where you can find them, you can always check out the Complete Scroll List.

Scroll Library Not too long ago, you had to teach scrolls to your pet. This wasn't necessarily a complicated thing to do if you only had one battle pet. However, it's common practice to own multiple battle pets, and if you wanted to move one scroll from one pet to another, you had to do a lot of steps to do so.

And heaven forbid you wanted two pets to have the same scroll. This meant buying multiples of the same scroll, to keep from having to constantly move a single scroll through multiple pets.

Fortunately, this is no longer the case, thanks to our lovely new Scroll Library!

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MAH LIFE?

Now you can send scrolls straight from your inventory to the library with just a simple click, and create unique sets you may need for different pets.

Multiples of a single scroll are no longer needed either. A single scroll can be put into multiple sets, so all you have to do is select the set you want to use in a particular battle.

...but nothing's stopping you from owning 8 Psycho Smashers either. :p pretend you see 8 dammit

So let's make a new scrolls set!

Once you've arrived at the Coliseum, you should see a hyperlink called 'Scrolls' listed at the top, right between 'Armory' and 'Beginner's Guide'. Click it, and you should end up on the Scroll Library page.

yeah it's a bit lackluster in design.

Non-Gold Account users can have a total of THREE (3) unique scroll sets, while GA users can have FIVE (5).

I only have one set currently made for my main battle pet, Elfric, but I have smaller pets that I like to battle with too. So I need to make a second scroll set with a much lower total amount of AP, which I have done in the image down below.

There is no limit to the amount of scrolls a set can have. Just make sure your pet(s) has enough AP.

Because my four smaller pets have low intelligence, therefore low AP amounts, I can only equip one scroll for this set. So I've chosen a Once per Battle (OPB) blocking scroll that they all can use. When I get their AP higher, I'll be able to add more scrolls to their set later.

Now click that edit button, and wa-la! I have another scroll set made. Let's go back to the library's main page by clicking the back button underneath the edit button.

Since I don't use my smaller pets often, I keep Elfric's set as the default.

Because I have two sets, I can define one set as a default set. This means when I go into battle, my default set--Elfric's Scrolls, in this case--will be automatically selected when I choose to Battle with Defaults and when I'm on the Choose Weapons page.

When I do use my smaller guys, however, I usually make their scroll set the default so I don't forget to select their set on the Choose Weapons page. Otherwise, they'll go in without their scroll set since they cannot use Elfric's set, due to their low AP learned.

As always, before entering any battle, make sure you're bringing in the weapons you want to use as well as selecting the scroll set you're going to need for it. =)

3.2 - Multi-Weapon Sets longest-running suggestion ever IS FINALLY HERE -----------------------------------------------

OHMYGOD THEY EXIST NOW

(Actual written section coming this weekend 5/21-5/22)

3.3 - Potions & Shards the shortest section yet -----------------------------------------------

Potions aren’t as widely used as scrolls, simply because they’re one use items, meaning it will break forever when you use it. However, these one use items can make a difference between a win and a loss.

Potions and shards are equipped directly to your pet, not your armory. You can mix and match each type of potion, they don't conflict with each other. Most of them are limit one of each potion at a time. But the Fireside and Dark Elemental Potions are an exception, and you can equip as many of them as you like.

Years later, we finally have Ice and Wind shards, which come from turning in Ice and Wind Mage Amulets respectively to the Elemental Mage!

Potions and pylonics can be bought in Apocalyptic Apothecary (shop 36, for shorthand), and shards are frequent byproducts from turning in mage amulets to the Mage. You can see different potions and what they do ">here.

If you have ever accidentally clicked on a potion or scroll that you don't want to use during battle, just refresh the page, and it should unselect it.

3.4 - Opponents Disabling Things Because they're jerks. -----------------------------------------------

So let’s say you decided to take on a new opponent. You whip out your faithful, shiny weapons and charge right in. Suddenly, with horror, you realize any of the following scenarios:

Ack! My new T7 healer isn’t healing! What! This is supposed to be a 100% freezer, but it’s not freezing! Grr! Why aren’t my blessings/curses appearing?!

Don’t worry. Your weapons didn’t break. Sometimes or feel like being extra sneaky, and make it so that certain opponents are immune to certain things.

When you fight Mechalag, you can’t activate any curses or blessings. When you fight Saggi, only blessings are deactivated, curses work just fine. You can’t freeze Tide, and healing is disabled for enemies like Eclipse or Daemon.

These definitely require a different strategy then your usual one, and forces users to think outside the box. ’ has a compiled list of opponents and whether or not they disable anything.

And even though the staff may think they’re being sneaky, you can outsmart them. While the healing disabled scenario may seem annoying, there are certain weapons and scrolls that are a little more powerful, but usually hurt you when you use them to balance things out. If you’re fighting opponents that have healing disabled, the negative healing gets disabled as well, allowing you to reap all the weapon’s perks with none of its usual self-inflicted pain.

3.5 - A Step by Step Guide to Battling a basic explanation on how to hit things until they die. -----------------------------------------------

Okay, now that you have some shiny weapons, you’re probably itching to test’em out! Elfric and I will personally guide you through what a typical battle is like. =)

First thing you need to do is head over to the Battle Coliseum in Sacred Lands.

Click on ‘Challenge an Opponent’ on top of the page, which will take you to a page that looks like this....

There are unlockable opponents, so you might not see everybody that you see in my list at first. The dropdown list is where you choose the pet that you want to fight. ‘Choose Weapons’ allows you to change your weapon lineup before entering battle, or you can ‘Battle with Default Weapons’ So now your pet is in battle, and it’s going to look a little something like this...

Time to start the battle! You can choose up to two Weapons, one potion, and/or one scroll to attack with every turn. Select what you want to use, and ‘Make your Turn’.

On the left is Elfric’s attack. He did well over 1k damage, and because the gauntlet has a 9% heal, El recovered 170 HP. On the right is the opponent’s attack, in this case Buttwing. The puny 26 damage did nothing to El, and none of Buttwings’ weapons provided healing.

Clearly this wasn’t a fair fight. Ah well, click the ‘Game Over’ button and steal all his moneyz! [URL=htt

4.1 - Battle Quests Because they finally need their own section. -----------------------------------------------

Alright, so you've trained your pet, gave it some weapons, and even ran through a quick battle. This is easy, neh? How 'bout raising the stakes and test your skills in a quest?

A BATTLE QUEST!

Located in the Sacred Lands--next to the Coliseum--is where you can put your skills to the test, and be better than all the rest. There, you will meet Reischen, a retired warrior who will challenge your pet to take on the nastiest, ugliest, and most-vicious beasts known to Subeta.

Reischen used to run Battle Quests (BQs) a little differently back then: Any time you accepted his challenge, he would randomly choose one opponent out of the default list of the Coliseum (unlocked ones are not included). This meant you could accept the first challenge and end up with Prodigy as your first opponent, to which you would either fight or decline, then move onto the next challenge.

Because it was randomized, you could end up completing only 10 out of 20 quests one day because General Error and Prodigy kept popping up. Another day, you might luck out and be able to complete all 20! This was the case with EXP too. Some days you could earn up to 30k EXP, whereas other days you might only get 12k.

So to cut down on the randomness factor, BQs were revamped into a more stable structure, starting with the easiest of opponents and ending with the most difficult baddies ever.

For every 5th battle, you will face a Boss of the difficulty level you are currently on. If you succeed, you'll earn a lot of EXP and move onto the next difficulty until quest 30, which is the final boss of BQs.

As you can see, the variety of possible opponents requires you to go in with a strategy, based on whoever you end up getting per quest.

Don't be disheartened if you can't complete all 30 quests. A T4 shouldn't be able to complete all 30, and that's alright cause you and your pet still have room to grow! Sometimes, though, you'll face an opponent who is a lot tougher than you realized...and even when you get your challenger in the red, your pet just can't hold on any longer.

GAHH SO CLOSE WHY

Thankfully, Rei is kind enough to provide you the opportunity to 'skip' the opponent you're currently struggling with, and try to get an easier one to replace it. Unfortunately Rei is not so kind in whoever he chooses instead. So if you skipped Daemon and tried for a new opponent, you could very well still get stuck with Daemon anyways.

You can run but you can't hide from this salty seadog!

Non-Gold Account players are only allowed to skip one opponent, whereas Gold Account players are provided two skips. Conserve your skip(s) for as long as possible, and only use'em if you really cannot put a dent in the challenger chosen.

For each quest you complete, your pet will earn EXP and occasionally a battle token, and Rei will give you a random item (which you can sell or frag into a humming power crystal).

The EXP you earn really adds up when you do your BQs every day.

(!IMPORTANT NOTICE!) At this time of writing, there's a strange mistake when you retry a BQ after failing to beat a challenger. After healing, do not click the 'fight this opponent again' button; it will not take you back to fight the BQ-version opponent you're currently facing in BQs.

As can be seen here. Pretend you see my mouse hovering over the 'Fight Again' button.

BQ-version opponents? Wha...? Remember, BQ-version opponents always retain their base stats. Wins, losses and ties in BQs do not count towards your records. So you can lose a bunch of times to Slavam in BQs and keep 0 losses on your record until you're ready to face him outside BQs.

Your URL for the BQ-version of the fight should read as follows:

If you do not see this string of text in your URL when you re-attempt the current BQ you're on, then you will be fighting the real thing instead, which will count towards your pet's record. The opponent's stats may also be a lot higher if you already have recorded wins against them.

I've asked our BAs to let the programmers know about this mistake, but I've yet to see the link be fixed. In the meantime, to get back to the BQ-version of the opponent, simply go back to the BQ page and click the opponent's image or the button leading to the fight.

I recommend opening a BQ battle in a new tab, then closing it out if you lose or tie. It's very easy to forget and end up with a lot of unnecessary losses on your record otherwise. And even if and when you do manage a win, it will not complete the quest you're currently on.

The horrific result of not remembering to check the URL address before battling.

4.2 - API and BPI formulas originally known as the DPI formulas, aka nerdy technical side of battling -----------------------------------------------

Strength and Defense do way more than what meets the eye. This is where it gets more technical and nerdy, so if you're not into math, you can skip this section.

However, if you've played enough Pokemon, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of Subeta's battle system. Besides, it doesn't hurt to know a little bit more than the average user. ;)

So pull out your calculators, it's time for some quick Subeta Battle Formulas 101!

And that's it. Simple, neh? If not, no worries, I'll divulge a bit further.

[b API Formula Application] "Say I own a weapon that does 10 icons, and my pet has 200 STR. How much damage will my pet do?"

1.) SQ RT (200) / 4.2 = 3.4 API <-- (remember this number for a later example) 2.) 10 x 3.4 API = approximately 34 damage Crit-hit: approx. 67-68 damage

Answer: A pet with 200 STR has an API of 3.4 (when rounded). Wielding a 10-icon weapon will deal approximately 34 damage to an opponent. A critical hit will double that damage to approx. 67-68.

(!)Remember that API of 3.4 for this next example, which will showcase the difference between a pet with 200 STR and a much, much stronger pet.

"Same weapon as above is used (10 icons), but my friend's pet has 2000 STR. How much damage will that pet do?"

1.) SQ RT (2000) / 4.2 = 10.65 API 2.) 10 x 10.65 API = approx. 106 damage Crit-hit: approx. 212 damage

Answer: A pet with 2000 STR has an API of 10.65 (when rounded). Wielding a 10-icon weapon will deal approximately 106 damage to an opponent. A critical hit will double that damage to approx. 212.

While a pet with 2000 STR to its name most likely wouldn't use a 10-icon weapon, the difference in API between both pets is staggering. The higher your pet's STR, means larger API, thus more damage output.

The good news is we're done with the more complicated formula of the two. The Block Per Icon (BPI) is directly tied to the Defense stat (DEF). So let's begin!

[b BPI Formula Application]

"I now have a weapon which blocks 10 icons, and my pet has 300 DEF. How much damage will my pet shield against?"

1.) SQ RT (300) / 4 = 4.33 BPI 2.) 10 x 4.33 = approx. blocks 43 damage

Answer: A pet with 300 DEF will have an approx. BPI of 4.33 (when rounded). Shielding with a weapon that blocks 10 icons, will in turn block approximately 43 damage. (!) There are no critical hits to calculate for BPI.

As performed in the API application, let's compare the 300 DEF pet to a pet with 3000 in DEF.

"Same weapon as above is used (10), but my friend's pet has 3000 DEF. How much damage will their pet block against?"

1.) SQ RT (3000) / 4 = 13.69 BPI 2.) 10 x 13.69 = approx. blocks 136 damage

Answer: A pet with 3000 DEF has an approx. BPI of 13.69 (when rounded). Using that same shield--which blocks 10 icons--the amount of damage blocked is approximately 136.

Again, it may not appear to be a huge difference, but comparing the API and BPI of each respective pet, you can see why training STR is more important DEF.

You do not have to know these formulas by heart to battle opponents. Just know that you don't need to train Defense as much as you need to with Strength.

Man, even after the new font type was pushed, the first post glitch is still ongoing. Bugger. Wonder if it'd almost be better to lock this thread and re-create a fresher one to circumvent the glitch?

In any case, thank you for re-posting the guide til the problem gets resolved! Yeah, I've got tons of updating to do on the guide, hence why I'm tempted to revise it entirely into a new thread. I'd love to be able to put each section into its own post instead of having it all in one post. It gets lengthy and overwhelming to search for mistakes in one giant post. xD

, I think that wouldn't be a bad idea to make a new thread? I think the newer posts don't disappear like your OP does.

If you want to split it into multiple posts, I can help you split your posts, and I can help delete my inbetween posts, so that you can have all the OP for yourself :)

Hi, I'm only a few weeks new & very interested in battling as I had a battle pet on Neo and I'm training Poukie now.

Thanks for reposting the guide.

From a newcomer perspective, I thought I was the one having issues. I kept looking for a link to the guide, spent a lot of time confused since people in 2nd onward posts kept saying the guide was great and I was asking myself what I was doing wrong. Luckily, I thought of going to the later posts and discovered there was an issue. If possible, it might be good to have a new thread to help clarify the issue although I realize it would be a lot of work. Appreciate the guide though. Thanks

Alright guys, since the missing post glitch is still prevalent on this thread, I'm going to most likely have this closed and will create an updated thread to replace this one.

Do you think can help me with splitting up the guide into multiple posts? I need about 3 after the main post.
