It wouldn't let me make a wish yesterday or today and I tried shortly after the cron had flipped. I tried viewing other's wishes first, etc… and it won't let me.
This is exactly how it works.
So is it basically, if a wish is granted, there is room for your wish. But do you need to grant a wish for you to be able to make a wish? That's really the question, or is it basically when there is a space available, you can add your wish no matter who freed it up.
I tried both hours before and shortly after a friend was able to post -- no problem. Like I said, I tried shortly after the cron had reset. She did it hours later & had no problem. I tried it within minutes of her and I was refused. And that was just a little while ago.
yes. but if you granted a wish you get to bypass the "maximum" number of wishes in the system. the reason it frees up a spot rather than specifically opening it for the person who granted the wish is for a couple of reasons.
both of those cases could potentially, over the course of the day, cause the number of ungranted wishes in the system to just decrease rather than staying full if the spot wasn't just freed up for anyone to use.
as a general rule of thumb, you're going to need to grant a wish before you can make one. unless you get lucky and happen to try at just the right time (which is explained in my previous post).
Okay, makes sense. So it pretty much is what I assumed at first that you can add your wish when there is space to add a wish.
Good to know.
So it's throughout the day and not just right after the con resets? In other words, I can stalk the shrub night & day and hope I get lucky enough to post or see something I can afford, or I can sell my firstborn and hope it will cover the cost of an ether?
When the day resets all the items currently in there reset, so we're all hoping that people will wise up and not put as many of these ridiculously expensive demands in there because they're least likely to be granted.
And yes if you constantly refresh you're bound to find one or two more affordable items.
the idea is that you're supposed to grant a wish before you can make a wish. but having it work that way for 100% of the wishes would be impossible because there wouldn't be any wishes in the system to grant in the first place if some people didn't get to bypass that simply to fill it up.
the expectation is not "get lucky and manage to grab an empty spot after someone else granted a wish"
the expectation is "grant a wish yourself so you can make one"
I feel like I got really lucky to get my Taco.
But I guess it is luck and if you make a wish when a spot opened up then bam!
You're in luck.
I still can't make a wish without having to grant one ...
EDIT: never mind, I know why now
Will do. Can I borrow 50 million so I can grant one? I've checked several times and have yet to see anything that isn't millions and millions…
I have no problem granting people's wishes if they didn't ask for items that are obscene. I do have a problem with how poorly this was thought out. Even a "suggested" price cap I think would help a great deal.
Edit: (2 hours later)
It's very gratifying to know that our concerns get taken seriously. I am really encouraged to see steps have been taken to try and make this site feature available to everyone. I think the new time option will help a lot. Even if it doesn't work, I'm really happy that you all are trying. I'm also impressed with how quickly our concerns were responded to. standing ovation
Thanks! :)
If I had to make a guess, I would guess that there were a certain number of wishes that could be made right away to get the ball rolling. After the original quota was met, the required grant went into play. I wondered how anyone could make wishes in the first place if they had to grant wishes first. Chicken and Egg problem, basically, haha. I&;m not actually sure what happened, but this is my guess.
This is exactly how it works.
WOW, I GUESSED RIGHT? MIND = BLOWN.
Also, I agree with Bonita that a suggested price cap on wishes would be tremendously helpful. Some people have wished for some pretty outrageously priced things, haha. When I made my first wish, I wished for a White Grand Piano and it got granted almost instantly, so apparently items in the 4 - 5mil range is not totally unreasonable. (Thank you, person who granted my wish!)
