...and it apparently opened up a big can of worms.
Kind of understandable, I suppose. Make a couple exclusive items for myself, while being a site artist, that certainly looks pretty selfish. But I want to clear the air, because I've had two posts specifically about me on Subeta Confessions and quite frankly it makes me sad.
It also REALLY annoys me, because everybody is pretty much anonymous and I can't talk to either of those submitters directly. I mean, I reblogged and told my side, but how many people are gonna check back there? I don't like making people feel sucky, and I especially don't like people feeling sucky because of misconceptions, so I dunno, I want to talk it out here.
For clarity, this is what we're talking about:
And a quick rundown: 1. I made these customs instead of official items because I didn't want to have to worry about appealing to a majority of people. This is what I wanted just for me. 2. They were not automatically accepted just because I'm staff. Two of them were rejected initially, and I had to justify the wig by saying it would not be possible to achieve that specific look with two separate items. 3. I paid for them myself, on my own time. The site did not compensate me for them. 4. I gave out the copies I didn't need. I didn't charge anyone for them and made no profit off of them. 5. I planned, even before creating them, on making more versatile knock-offs for official release. I still plan on doing this at least for the jackets.
I know Custom Wearables are kind of a volatile thing right now, and everybody is kind of frustrated. I understand why that is, and I sympathize. I'm just complaining because I don't like people getting the wrong idea.
If you're somebody who did have an issue with these items, please don't be afraid to post here. I'm not looking for a fight. I just want you to know I'm not trying to screw you or other users over, and I want to hear more of why you feel the way you do.
:c dude this really isnt fair on you. its your artwork and you're being given the chance to draw something that appeals to you rather then a general populous of subeta. esp if you gave all the spares away too o_o;.
people are just jealous and bitter :c. you could open a shop and charge 20403903240 for official style site art but you're not, so people need to shut up and stop complaining for nothing.

I don't get why people can be so upset about seeing a staff artist making custom wearables but then again I don't see the Wardrobe as serious business either so maybe that's why...?
Anyway, I don' think you should feel bad, instead be happy and enjoy your custom wearables because they rock. Oh and your Bottled Ship is the prettiest background ever just had to say that @ bean. :']
I'm not one of the folks that have complained, because really you didn't do anything wrong and you're using the system as it is meant to be used.
My theory on why people are upset is because the items are absolutely beautiful. I know I'm a fan of most everything you've drawn for the site, and I would have loved to have the background especially (because that cloud lighting is phenomenal!). I think others feel this way too. Plus the whole set is so deliciously steam punk, maybe a lot of folks could have seen them being released around masquerade time (either in the steamwork shop for trinkets or as a bag-set like the fashion bags were this summer?). I don't understand personally why the wig couldn't have been separated from the hat and not achieved the same look, but again, I'm not an artist lol
I do think people have been unfairly mean about the whole thing though, but I don't think it's out of hate if that makes sense? More disappointment in not being able to get them since you're also a staff artist? IDK :(
I don't understand why people are making a big deal about the fact that you want to have your own item for yourself. If you were another user, there would be absolutely no problem with it. BUT just because you happen to be a Subeta Artist, that should make a difference :P
People need to stop whining.
Jfc, people shouldn't be bitching about you making custom wearables for yourself. That's in no way selfish; everyone is allowed to make custom wearables. Why should you or any other member of the staff not be allowed? THAT'S not fair.
I don't understand why this is any different than anyone else on site making a set for themselves. You may be on staff, but you're also a user just like everyone else and you should be able to use the same features that we are able to use. I don't think being on staff should somehow make you exempt from enjoying custom wearables. Especially if you're paying for it. There's no reason at all that you shouldn't be allowed to use this.
Previously known as Scrambled.
I find it hideously ironic that you did with the CW system what it seemed to be originally intended for; you made yourself your own unique CWs that only you (okay, and a few others, friends perhaps) could ever have. That is the point of the system, I thought?
What the CW has actually turned into has made everyone take it for granted that everyone should be entitled to everything and SLOTS and claimclaimclaim and RECOLOURS and profiiiiiiit! :/
You did nothing wrong in this. I'm so sorry you're getting flak for this. I particularly love the background, but I know I'm not entitled to getting it just because it's on-site...it's yours. It's your unique CW that you made for you.
I really can't say much more than what these lovely people above me have said - you didn't do anything wrong and the people who are jealous need to really re-evaluate their morals and themselves because you're the innocent party here :( hugs

I haven't been vocal here or anywhere else about the matter, but I am among the people who are sad I will never own that background.
But I figure that was kind of the point of CWs in the first place is that they are meant to be especially for the person who made/commissioned it. People need to stop feeling so entitled to everything.
yep. this ownership thing is driving me crazy ;;;
wow I didnt even realize there was a hubbub over the items you created o_o

I'm really glad you addressed this (although you shouldn't have had to) to clear up the people who are fussing about it on Subeta Confessions. I get that because you are a site artist- obviously your CWs are going to be heavily sought after since the art is absolutely beautiful and top-notch. So perhaps people are upset that they won't get the opportunities to get these items like they would if you had put these in a trunk or something? Which is something silly to be upset about.
But I agree, as well as an artist you are a member of this site and imo should get the same priviledges. It's not like you sold them in mass quantities or charged ridiculous prices for them just because you are a site artist. And honestly, you could have easily jacked up the prices and made an insane profit since your art is wonderful- but it says a lot about you that you didn't take that route. I've seen CWs go for 3000 CSC before and honestly- it makes me a little queasy feeling. So good for you for making the wearables YOU wanted and standing up for yourself (:
Hopefully the Anons that made those posts will read this and be more understanding.
I just thought I'd edit and add that I'm sure part of the problem is people are forgetting that you are a human and not some sort of art-machine. I mean, how dare you draw something for the hell of it instead of drawing only for your job geez.... jk obviously v____v unfortunately I think that might be what certain users are thinking.
Wow. Firstly, I'm super glad to finally know who drew those beautiful CW's that I (and tons of other people) have been drooling over. Kudos for making a lovely set.
Secondly, boo on anyone who is giving you flak about that. If I could draw I would absolutely be taking advantage of the CW system. I have a few character's with hair/shoes/clothes that aren't on Subeta currently (or similar to any subeta items whatsoever) and I would absolutely love to have my own CW for them. Sadly even my stick figures aren't recognizable, but that's a my problem sort of thing. LOL.
Personally I think it's just intense jealousy that they don't have what you made. You spent your hard-earned money (and talent) on those items, they should be yours to do with as you please. Isn't that what the whole CW system is about? I personally find it admirable that you gave away your other copies.
you shouldn't have to justify items you make for yourself. as others have said, you're using a system that was made for the exact reason you used it; a CUSTOM item for you! you had to take the time out of your day to draw them, you had to pay, and you had to wait and be rejected just like everyone else who has made items.
[tot=ravenclaw] 🎃
The problem is, people on Subeta have some of the godam worst entitlement issues of any site I've ever been a member of. I love this community to death but some people are honestly just brats. They think because an item is out there, and they have the money to pay for it, that they're entitled too it and something is hideously unjust if they can't get it.
Like everyone else, I don't think anything wrong has been done here, if anything it was more right than the way most people use the CW system! And that's coming from someone who would die to get their hands on that wig haha, but I know I can't have everything, whereas a lot of people here don't seem to realise that! Sorry you're having to deal with so much flak , like others have said, this fuss is only because you're a staff artist, which shouldn't be any problem at all but some people just like to cause problems I guess!
I would just like to state, that I would give all my subeta love for subeta knock-offs of both the jacket and the ship in the bottle ___
Ngl when I was looking up subeta's for a pet's TC I saw your ship and was like..... holy shit that's the first custom wearable that I'd actually have no problem buying. It's just.... so effing awesome. And the jacket, man. All my love for a bad ass aviator jacket ;;
... also the fact that you had to justify yourself is ridiculous /: I mean geeze, even if you did make a selling board and sold the items for the same price as everyone else.... that just means you're like everyone else? (I feel some self-entitlement is blooming...) -50 points subeta, srsly.
While on the topic of this; It annoys me when people complain when artists or people who PAY for their own comishies give their friends auto-slots on the things they pay/make themselves. I've seen it happen a lot. Even to people I'm friends with. I know it sucks missing slots for items you want but it happens to everyone.
I don't think it's selfish at all. If someone spends their time and energy making or making the money to PAY for the items. People need to suck it up and wait for slots. If you miss out, you miss out. Better luck next time. Or comish your own items and pay and see how much of a bitch it is dealing with people who complain about it. I'm not trying to be an asshole but if people are going to pay or create these items it's up to THEM on how they want to distribute them.
I haven't see the issue at hand but I can understand where those people may be coming from. I mean, being a site artist most users on the site are going to expect the site artist creations to be for everyone. However, I don't think there's anything wrong in you having your own stuff too.
-is selfish and wants the ship- D:
Working on ...
I was bummed because they were BEAUTIFUL wearables, made by a talented artist, and I want them XD I would never dream of bitching at you for making them (though, before I understood the rule of having to justify items, I thought it was bs you could make what looked like 2 items as one. I get that it's different though).
I think a lot of the drama is/was that you're a site artist :( And I personally didn't think about site artists creating things for themselves, though it's perfectly fair. Where w/ regular CW artists, we know we couldn't possibly all have them. With a site artist, I think we see it as that we could have had them if they'd been made as public items.
Again, I get how silly it sounds, but I know it's what it felt like for me. A LOT of the site items aren't "versatile" but we still love them. I'm unendingly jealous of these three items, hahaha.
