Maybe not all of us, but I for one often get asked about subeta when I bring it up in a conversation. Then it becomes my duty to describe this magnificent world we play in to them, in a way that glorifies it, doesn't ridicule it and leaves them curious to know more.
I've come to only one ultimate brief thing I could use to answer, "What is subeta?" both interestingly and concisely. (And excuse me if this is a little offensive or against the rules, it honestly is what I say) I say, "It's a petsite. Like a mix between neopets and gaia online, but for adults."
I just used nearly exactly that sentence to somebody, and thought to myself that it sounded so rehearsed, like I was reading a script out of subeta's book of How to Attract Outsiders.
And now I wonder, what does everyone else say? :D How do you get your friends to join subeta, or what did your friend say to get you to play?

I don't. XD
None of my rl friends really play virtual pet sites any longer. As for my parents, I used to tell them I just worked on the site, neither of my parents are really that computer literate to began with.
Sam as Medici pretty much, I guess xD Because how would you describe it to someone who has no idea what Gaia or Neopets are?
...actually. I started on Neopets but to this day I have no idea what Gaia is? XDXD
HAHA true! I suppose I usually do get asked by other gamers, even if part-time gamers. As far as the internet goes though, at first glance subeta does seem like a mix between neopets and gaia. But that "for adults" at the end.. makes a big difference!! If someone is just computer illiterate though, I guess there's no point trying to explain anyways, because they won't play anyway! haha

I keep it to myself. I have no friends and therefore no one I know would understand what it is, let alone be curious. I keep it a secret from my family because they'll think it's a bad site just because it has games.
"A stupid cartoon kids game that you can deorate a person and sell things but not real sell them fake sell them for internet fake money and it has cute pictures, you can have cute pets, but not real pets its just cartoon ones".
Haha.
Very rarely do I talk about it, but if I do, I say it is a pet site like Neopets because everyone (at least where I am from) has at least heard of it if not played it when they were younger. I never did, now that I think about it, but almost everyone else did. xD
I actually keep it to myself (most of my rl friends would probably laugh that I'm still on a petsite), but if I had to explain, I'd call it a really rad community of petsite-loving people. Or maybe a Neopets that's gone through puberty.

I've only described it to a few people, haha.
I'd say that it was a bit like Neopets, except more user-friendly -- and while it has fewer people, it's also far more mature. I think I'd emphasize that the community is friendlier (at least, in my experiences). And there are more names available. And you get to dress up pretty dollies. o.o
And the art. The art here is x1000 better than the art on Neo, oh god.
My parents know what Subeta is and I tell them about many things like Events and so on, especially my mother gets all the news from me lol. :D
"Like Neopets but more awesome"
"what nothing I'm just on tumblr" "we're friends from.... camp." "I'm writing a short story.. I dunno, just for practice"

I usually just say it's an online community that I'm a part of that has it's own holidays and events, which each user has a profile on that include their avatar, pets, and achievements. Then, depending on what the person I'm talking to is into (Facebook, WoW, Kong, etc.), I describe other features they might like such as cults, battling, games, battling, etc.
If the person is familiar with Neopets, I'll say, like Neopets but with a human avatar as well and less money-grubbing. If they're familiar with Gaia, I'll say it's like a cross between Neopets and Gaia but more fun with a better community than Gaia and the game's economy's better...and less money-grubbing.
Otherwise I just say it's an online community and leave it at that. Since it's pretty arguable whether or not it's "for adults" - it seems more like, it's for whoever can enjoy it, twelve or twenty-two. Or twenty-three in a few days =P
If someone was interested, I might say it's an online community with both pets and a human avatar. The staff are really nice and seem to honestly care about the users, and there are a lot of events that are a lot of fun, like holidays, sometimes with plots. But most my peeps aren't interested/are already on here/were on Subeta and aren't anymore.
Rii can draw! Check out her chibi art shop or her insta!
How about a webcomic about villains stumbling around redemption arcs? Drop by:

If it's people in real life, I either DON'T or say it's like neopets but less dumb and a good timewaster. And then change the subject ahahah
"It's like Neopets for adults" is the most common answer for me. My mom knows Subeta as 'that site like neon pets" haha.
I don't talk about Subeta with people in RL. Except for a few very close friends and one of my siblings. My brother knows it as "like Neopets, but much better" and my close friends are aware that I'm a part of "an online community that has forums and holiday events".
Only my really close friends/family know about it because they're on here too xD My parents just think of Subeta as "that game site" since they always see me playing subeku or matlal's jewels lol. Otherwise, I don't talk about it.

Hmm. Well, I recently mentioned it to a friend on Gaia, and she said she'd check it out because of my activity on here, so if she asks for more info regarding why I'm on here I'll have to say something that doesn't involve zombies. my beloved zombies
I don't think she'd like that part of it. XD She'd definitely like the pretty stuff though.
But maybe I'll tell her all about the fun of making pet characters/overlays, and all the art opportunities in general since she loves drawing. Oh, and I'd tell her about the amazing avatars that have much better quality than gaia's. 8D
And of course I'd mention the slightly anime art style. You see, she originally started on TinierMe before that shut down, and was a little disappointed in the 'downgrade' of avatars that Gaia has for their users.
Maybe she'll like it here? if she decides to join
So overall, I guess I'd describe Subeta as "It's a more mature virtual pet site with amazing art, plots, holidays, intricate human avatars, and casual ways to earn currency".
A user-friendly community could be a good term also?
