At first it was just a few little things, like the Ice Fields and the Tanning Salon, that refused to work on Internet Explorer. Ok, I can live with that. But then pages stopped updating; I had to refresh the page to see every new Wizard Quest, fourmpost and news update, and it quickly got annoying. And now, the new 'updated' hover codes refuse to pop up on IE. I had to go and download Firefox in order to get the damn things working! :P

I know that Staff has alot on their minds, but would it really be too much to ask to make Subeta compatible with the default internet browser that comes with almost every computer in the universe? Some of us are trying to keep our computers clean, and its frustrating that you have to download another browser if you want to get the full Subeta experience.

IE is only so popular because Microsoft shoved it into every version of Windows without asking any questions, like you've said.

I think that the main problem here is that IE has it's own messed up way of interpreting coding. So, something that looks perfectly normal in Firefox will be completely messed up in IE. Why? Ask Microsoft.

It'd take nice chunk of work to get the site IE compatible, while it works perfectly fine on other browsers. You do the math. IE versus Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and others. It's a losing battle.

And, to be honest, I'd rather have Keith and the rest of the programmers working on new features for the site rather than taking their time and making it so that a failing, dying browser can display it properly. :(

What isn't wrong with IE?

IE is seriously the most craptacular browser out there. I'm suprised people still use it.

Best way to keep your computer clean is to get rid of IE, set it on fire and don't ever consider using it. Ever.

This thing still has...so many loops that can be abused. And, coding for IE is...a major pain in the rear. said that a bunch of times, and I know programmers, and they all agree than IE coding is awful.

So really, we tell people to use Firefox, because it's faster, and safer.

Actually, I've found IE is faster and more reliable than Firefox. I'm not saying that it doesn't have its share of problems, but it still runs better than Firefox, atleast on my computers.

And plenty of people still use it-hell, walk into any business or school and take a look at what browser's icon is sitting on the desktop. I'm just saying that we shouldn't have to download something to make the site work properly. It's not like Subeta has a non-internet portion like, say, Gopets. It shouldn't require anything but the default to run.

For all the CSS that firefox ignores (BLUH) I'd rather deal with that than have to take the time to code around IE. Coding already takes a lot of time, to code something and then go back and make sure it works in IE? Why bother when there is a browser that's compatible?

My high-school uses Firefox

People only use it because they don't know any better or they don't want to know any better. :( It's like playing with a poorly made plastic toy and not knowing (or not wanting to hear) that you can get a nice, well-made plushie for the same money.

IE is only the 'default' because Microsoft never gave it's customers a choice of different browsers in the Windows package. It just kept monopolizing and shoving a poor product at the masses with the OS, which the masses swallowed up like starved kids because there were little to no alternatives (anyone remember Netscape?) and they trusted that Microsoft would take really good care of their customers. Big joke, that.

I'M bringing my college to use Firefox, actually. I'm begging my department to switch this semester, as the Internet Intro. teacher is retiring. :)

IE is a complete and utter pain in the ass to anyone who codes anything. I'm in school right now for web design, and every single site I have ever made, I had to include special code just for IE because it never ever looked right in that damn browser. IE interprets code in its own incomprehensible way, because Microsoft wants to be special and set its browser apart from the rest, and it does, by making it shitty and giving designers and developers migraines from trying to figure out how to work around IE.

So clearly, I'm biased against IE :P But seriously, if you're trying to keep your computer clean, your best bet is switching to Firefox. It is much more secure than IE, and every site will look and work right. I can't think of anyone or anything that would recommend IE over Firefox (except, of course, Microsoft, because it's their product, not because it's the best product).

God, I wish I could douse IE in gasoline and set it aflame. Almost every single thing I've ever coded has had SOME kind of wobbly in that useless piece of crap, and as I'm on a mac it makes checking for flaws in IE even more of a pain in the ass.

Hell, it's not like you have to use Firefox. You can use Opera or Safari or K-Meleon or any other damned browser under the sun, and it will display webpages better than IE.

IE is simply broken. It's been broken from the start, and reads coding rules incorrectly, and only very, very recently (with IE7) has Microsoft tried fixing ANY of the issues with the browser when it comes to interpreting the code -- because Firefox, Opera, Safari and friends were coming up fast and getting on their tail.

It's also completely full of holes. Those ActiveX controls? They're just massive welcome signs to viruses, spyware and trojans. Just a few months ago a major flaw in the browser that would allow massive damage to be done was discovered. The adblocker is a joke and the interface is completely unintuitive (just like the rest of Microsoft's new products, might I add).

I don't care what you use, man, just don't use IE! What you're probably experiencing is Firefox's notorious memory hogging. This was fixed dramatically in Firefox 3, but if you're still having trouble with it I really think you should try downloading Opera or Safari and seeing if one of those is easier on your computer.

IE makes me really sad. It eats all of my pet profiles for some inconceivable reason. ;__;

I actually know your pain, though, I had a hard time convincing myself to switch to FF at first. Firefox takes a really long time to start up when I first turn on my computer, as it does with many other people, and I have no idea why. Once it gets going, though, it's much faster for me.

I had a lot of problems running it on my old computer because a lot of IE's updates and add-ons seemed to mess with it and slow it down. Don't ask me why that was. I was running Windows98, so it wasn't a great system anyway.

Once you really get used to FF, though, you never look back. Everything just displays and functions so much better with it.

IE isn't the default for everyone. I'm on a mac, I don't have IE. If Subeta only worked in properly in IE, I'd be out of here. I wouldn't put IE on my computer even if you paid me. :P

I know what you're thinking... you're thinking that because IE is the default browser on your computer (and every other Windows computer), it's the best one out there. You say you're trying to keep your computer clean? First thing you need to do is get rid of IE.

I agree with everyone here in that Firefox is the better browser, or any other browser BESIDES IE. IE is seriously hell, and like Corgi said, it's most definitely broken. The damn browser lets in everything, and i'm speaking from personal experience. I used to get viruses non-stop, and i had no clue why. It would piss me off to no end, and i didn't no what to do. D: A friend told me I should download firefox because it was safer, and fast to boot. So I did, and i haven't had a virus since. knocks on wood

In the long run, any browser is better than IE, and on the plus side, firefox is fun! X3

Personally I like using firefox with subeta, it just seems to run faster with less errors. IE... you can't do much with it... it's like it has a vendetta out on Subeta =/ or... something.

Actually, my uni seems to use Firefox. Thank goodness. There are still IE icons to use, but most of the campus computers I've run across use FF as the default. I think the Internet security also suggests using FF.

And as someone mentioned before, if you want to keep your computer clean, you should get rid of IE. xD Seriously, FF is SO much more user-friendly. Version 3 is amazing.

Subeta is just being like your parents. They know what's good for you, so they're forcing your hand because...they know better. ;)

Every single other browser in the marketplace is lightyears ahead of IE in everything.

here are a few benchmarks for you and you can google "browser benchmarks" to or "browser comparisions" to get other data.

Every single other browser is more secure, and better for your internet experience, than IE.

It's hell writing for IE, because unlike the other browsers, it doesn't conform to standards. You might say that because IE is the default browser on computers (which is isn't anymore, btw. They aren't allowed to do that in europe and it won't be long before they aren't allowed here) but firefox is quickly catching up. On most heavy internet sites, firefox makes up of at least 30% of the share of browsers. On Subeta, it's over 60%. Of course, that's because we don't cater to IE, but I'm not going to write an extra 300 lines of javascript (ie: hacking) to make things function in IE, at the expense of speed for everyone else who chose a competent browser.

So true.

When it comes down to it people don't trust anything new, and put way to much trust in the crap that they're given.

I myself adore FF, ok it may take a while to load, put after that it's a hell load better then IE, everything is. I once tried to convince my grandparents to switch, eventually they gave in aslong as I left IE as default so they could still use, even though had experienced numerous problems involving spyware and trojans. During that next week the computer became riddled with virus as a younger cousin clicked something that they shouldn't have[while using IE mind], two guesses who got the blame, FF, and it got swiftly deleted, purely for the fact that it was new and they refused to understand it.

THIS.

I had to actually DOWNLOAD a program that would let me use IE6 on my Mac because of all the problems it has, and in my Interactive Design class our prof forces us to make everything that we code work in IE6 (even though it sucks in every possible way). :(

Why NOT use Firefox? It has KICK-ASS add-ons by the hundreds! :) Yay for AdBlock, Colourful Tabs, custom Skins and Themes, etc. :D

This is exactly what I came here to post. XD

Firefox is faster and much more secure than Internet Explorer. Yes, it takes up a lot more memory, but that's likely due to the many neat features it has.

I've read that FF opens slower than IE because it isn't packed with the operating system like IE...or something like that...don't take my word for it.

USE FF. OMFG YES.

I use to contract about 4 trillion viruses a day but after switching I don't think I've got a single virus.
