I had my first swimming lesson when I was 5. I know how to swim and I know how to dive. I cannot dive though, one of my ears cannot manage with the pressure underwater.

Yes. 5 of my summers were spent in hard-core swimming camp. 4 hours of swimming a day (plus additional hiking, running, et cetera). 2 hours, half an hour break, 2 hours. I was merely 6 when I started. :]

[wait, but I knew how to swim before that too; started at 4.]

I learned swimming when I was really young, I can hardly even remember when I started. All kids over here in the Netherlands get swimming lessons at school the first two years or so because we live in a watery country; there are rivers, ponds and all everywhere so it's safer to teach it to them young.

Sadly I haven't swum in a couple of years due to health issues, don't like the pools over here anyway and natural resources are polluted, but I still have all my papers as I also took lifeguard classes for four years. I was a natural talent.

I can doggy paddle :).

I had lessons when I was younger but I forgot what they taught me. I could probably re-teach myself if I really have to, but I don't swim that often. I'm just to lazy to teach myself again if it isn't a life threatening situation. If I'm on holiday and meet friends there that like swimming I usually just get a piggy back from one of them if I want to go somewhere in the pool :P.

I learned when I was 6. My best friend abandoned me when we went for lessons every day though, so I hid in the locker room and cried and stayed there for 2 WEEKS while they were learning how to swim and no one noticed. D:

So now, because of that, I don't know how to swim.

I took swimming lessons when I was like... four o.O So since then I guess. Personally, I think everyone should learn how to at least tread water in case of emergency.

I can swim c: I can't honestly say when I started swimming. We've always had a pool at home, and our parents wanted us (me and my siblings) to be safe so they stuck us in swimming lessons. Guess we all really loved being in the water. As all of us now teach swimming lessons. When I first started teaching I never knew that there were people that couldn't swim, especially adults. Also, there are some people that just can't grasp the concept of swimming.

I -LOVE- swimming. I learned when I was 16... I swallowed -so- much water and practiced like 2-3 hours a day :s XD It got to the point where the bottom of my feet were bleeding from doing so many kickoffs from the side of the wall :s

xD I can do freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and breast stroke c: I can also dive, but preferably not from a diving board XD

I&;m just curious really, since I&;m going to a pool party tomorrow.(Today, whatever)
If it's at someone's house, you don't actually need to learn how to swim.. Since pools at people's houses aren't that deep and your feet can touch the bottom. Usually at those sort of things, you just need to hold your breath and be able to go underwater (e.g. to retrieve toys that sink to the bottom) :s Usually people toss a ball around, float on inflatable toys, get on each others' shoulders and push other teams into the water.. xD If you're going to an actual pool, just stay away from deep water :p

I love to swim. I learned when I was 6 years old, and since then I spend most of the time when we're at the seaside in water of course. I also like to dive, but I'm not very good at it. My ears start to hurt very quickly.

It kinda surprised me too, but not everybody has/had a chance to learn how to swim. But in our school every kid has swimming lessons (at the age of 8) that are a must.

I taught myself, and I can swim enough to not drown. I get tired easy and can't go under for long though. I fail

[edit] I've been able to swim since I was like 6 basically, but I learned how to really float and go under water when I was 11ish.

I can swim, just not very quickly 😊 I learnt when I was pretty young. About 6? Used to swim quite often, but now I never do, lol. I hate how I look in a swim suit.

I learned how to swim when I was about 7. I had to learn to get certified in diving. (scuba diving) :)

I grew up at the seaside and can't swim. It just seems a bit pointless to me. Oh and I'm 23... I doubt I'll bother to learn now.

I never had official lessons, but I learned when I was about 5. I think everyone should be able to swim just well enough to save themselves or someone else in fairly calm water.
