After reading all the posts, I'm seriously laughing at all the hate on it. I was expecting a lot of, "I really liked it" or whatever.

I'm currently reading it right now and I agree, it's pretty lame. I really, really dislike all the characters. Christian is just the worst. I really want to punch him in the face. I don't care how hot he is supposed to be. I'd tell him to get lost. And Ana. It's like, "really you dumb bitch? You're going to let a man treat you like this?" And this is coming from someone who was in an abusive relationship. So yeah, I'll probably keep reading it just to see what happens. I don't even know if I'll read the rest of the books to be honest.

[edit] After I posted my first message, I went and read another chapter. I started thinking, "I don't think I can read another 200+ pages of this crap." So I gave into temptation and wikied the summaries of all the books. Glad I did because what a huge pile of crap. I'm glad I didn't waste too much time of these books. So I stopped reading it half way through and returned it to the library.

Well, I'm a bit torn when it comes to this series. They're definitely not books I would recommend to anyone because they are VERY badly written. I read the first half of the first book and decided not to continue, until a couple of weeks later. I picked it up again and finished it. Then read the other two. The story is ok and some of the sex scenes are very very hot, however by the third book I was just skipping them because there are SO many of them lol. As previously mentioned, she does refer to her inner goddess way too much. And she also flushes all the time, which drove me INSANE in the beginning.

I don't think they are horrible, but they're not great either. I will admit that I did fall for Christian Grey a little.... lol...

This is one terrible series. I just can't understand why so many people love it.

I read all 3 books because I was intrigued by the concept and wanted to see what everyone was talking about. During all 3 books I cringed at the incredibly poor writing. They are, however, a quick read. Especially since I started skipping the sex scenes as they became horribly repetitive and boring.

I borrowed the first book from a friend of mine and read it. Ummm no, I don't really like it. If they had ended at the first book and wrote no more I'd be happy :) Anyway, I've read Ann Rice's Sleeping Beauty Chronicles many years ago and enjoyed them far more then whatever this smut was haha. There will be a movie and I probably won't be going to see it.

I have only read a few parts of it and then gave up. It really wasn't worth it.

Now, as someone who writes fanfiction herself, I find the idea of turning a fanfiction into an actual novel ridiculous. Fanfiction is written in a slightly different format, which makes it hard to turn it into a proper story. Also, I think that turning a fanfiction into a real book ruins its originality; the story is based on characters from another existing series, meaning that you are actually using someone else's characters. You can try to change the characters a bit, but certain personality traits won't go away.

As for the smut...well, let's say I know tons of younger people - even under the age of 18 - who can write better smut than that. I don't get how the book became so popular, because I thought it was poorly written.

The books are fun in that they are just bad (I've only read the first two books). But I don't get why they would be so popular since the sex is poorly written and it promotes abusive relationships. Never mind it just confirms people's beliefs that all fanfics are like the Fifty Shades Trilogy (and I write fanfics myself).

I hated carrying the books around since sometimes people would notice and would say the books were so awesome. I had to pretend to agree with them since I didn't want to cause problems.

Here are my reviews of the first two books (Fifty Shades Grey AND Fifty Shades Darker).

This book was very terrible. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I do like a bit of BDSM too. I was excited to see where the book was going. But I was bitterly disappointed. It was very vanilla, and very tame. And it was so poorly written. I reckon that it sold so well because it was the 'first' of its nature to be published. Also, because she self-published. Thats why the writing is so poor. Awful book. I wish I could un-do reading it

I read all three books and not it's like me proud... This book is crap.

At first it was fun because I did not know the plot, so much so that for a moment I thought Grey was a vampire ... yeah. Anyway, when sex parts and stuff began was very annoying. Not it like "omg this makes me feel horny" it was more like "well, it's coming... ok... ok... finish? not yet? ok... Ana fainted so let's continue."

In short... It is an erotic novel written so that children 6 years old can read it without any problems. characters = Twilight. plot = sex, Ana is constantly insecure and jealous and Grey is rotten in money and shades yey.

The synopsis alone disgusts me and is enough to keep me the heck away from these books. Honestly speaking, the whole BDSM "community"/the whole concept creeps me out.

It was so terribad it took me 6 months of reading a couple of pages at a time to get through it. It just hurt me. Also, as someone who is into the BDSM scene and has extensive knowledge and experience, I can't believe how fucking disgustingly inaccurate and incorrect the author's portrayal of BDSM is. Dom =/= disrespectful, abusive, self-absorbed prick. At no one time does he ever take Ana's wants into consideration, it's just all "you're gonna do this to please ME and if you don't like it well don't sign the contract, I'll reject you and you'll cry over me and come crawling back when you're ready." It's just twisted. It's trash like this book that gives everyone who is into BDSM in any way a bad name, and it makes me want to scream.

The read the series just to see what all the fuss was about. While I didn't hate it, I didn't love it either.
