I do think overly restrictive rules cause people to have a negative experience with forums and deter them from using forums in the future. Users, especially newer ones, may not know all of the forum specific rules and they happen to accidentally necro a thread or something, get told they did something wrong, then have anxiety about posting in the future. I donβt think this is what we want if weβre trying to promote activity in the forums.
With the recent revamps to the forums will be coming re-evaluations of forum rules, so sit tight! But, in the meantime, please do follow site rules (and that includes no bumping, please)!
Revisiting the rules would be good, I'm glad to hear that is on the timeline. Like Kevin said a new user could easily be scared off entirely by a bad experience which we probably want to avoid.

[/font]re: commerce threads, I like how Toyhouse does it - you get a bump button you can click every little bit (I think it's a half hour minimum limit?) and it doesn't require you to post. that would be very lovely because selling threads I've made in the past, people will mail or comment me instead of posting on the thread, which is worse for me because then my thread fades into the void without any activity.
and Toyhouse's bump also has a necroing limit but I can't remember the deets. if it were to be put on Subeta, I think it should be a time limit based on the last post instead of original post -- so if a thread is 2 years old, but the last reply was 4 months, then it should still be able to get bumped. but if the last reply is also 2 years old, it's too old to bump now and requires being remade. I hope that makes sense?
as for any casual chat sections, I think the bumping isn't as necessary nor is necroing, but I think a button like Toyhouse's bump wouldn't be too bad there anyways.
good to know the rules are being reconsidered though! :3
I like the idea of a 'bump' button.

oh man i'm glad to know forum rules are being revaluated!! def crossing my fingers for some positive changes in the future hehe
can't relate lol we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. i don't really see why it matters if the other posters are inactive? that could happen on literally any thread regardless of age, someone posting and then the op logging out and not logging back in for years
i just don't understand what that disaster could possibly be tho ;; worst case scenario someone bumps their thread a bunch of times...... and then what? if they're spamming they're gonna be warned because spam is against the rules, spam wouldn't suddenly be allowed because bumping threads (something just about every forum allows) would be possible
i actually almost wanted to suggest a bump button in the op but then thought it was too much to ask SDFGHJKL since that would require additional coding while changing some rules doesn't. i like the idea a lot tho!!
I support removing or easing the necro rules! Often "old" forum posts can still be on the first page of a forum listing, so it is really easy to accidentally post in an old thread if one isn't careful. I realize that this is my problem of just not looking at the thread age, but I can't be the only one!
I just want to add that I think the forums overall are very confusing on what's allowed where and just general navigation. It's especially odd considering how small the actual community is and feels very micro-managed. Makes me not want to post.
The idea of forum threads with entire pages of nothing but the word "Bump" like you see so often on Neopets, makes me faintly nauseous. (I tend to avoid "claim" threads during events for that very reason). A bit more leeway on necro'd topics could be nice though.
i actually made a thread about this exact same thing (namely the art market issues) and while its now locked figured i'd post it as support and so people can see what others said. staff seemed interested in revisiting the rules then, but so far no updates on that

the necroing and no more than one thread rule i think could go for sure
totally agree! I think a bump a day is not that bad. Especially when you are trying to sell something and want users to know that there's been an update or that it's still available. I'm glad the rules for these things are going to get looked at for Kumos.
I definitely support being able to post twice in a row. As a person who has made guides here, it's really annoying to create and maintain any kind of forum thread like that and not be able to post twice in a row. You can't even post again for updates, it's gotta be a whole new person. Ridiculous.
Look at Flight Rising's forums, you can post as many times as you'd like in a row. You can also delete your own posts. Lots of active talking and it's not all spam. I can make guides, I can make creative projects that are based ON THE FLIGHT RISING FORUM without making another person post in between each of mine! Imagine if it was EASY on subeta to do that.
We can hypothesize all we want, why not look at a site that's doing is successfully and see what's working well for them? It's actually fun and easy to be on forums over there, and it's not a spam nightmare even in sales/commerce forums. Plus if one person is annoying, just block them. Why hobble the entire forum system because a few people might be obnoxious?
Subeta's forums aren't nearly as busy as they used to be. For some sections, I can see usefulness in not allowing bumping or necro-ing, but so few people post here that it isn't a big deal. I wonder if there's some once-bitten-twice-shy from the longcat debacle that happened years back, but that's verrrrry unlikely to happen again.
I love the idea of a button that lets you bump a thread once a day or so. That seems to solve the problem of a long line of posts that say nothing but "bump." I also like the idea that double posts should include new, relevant info--whether it's a clarification, a reference to how the OP was edited, etc.--so it can't be abused to get more than one bump in a set time period.
i like the idea of a bump button that doesn't necessarily mean a bump post! i think that would be really helpful for art threads, etc. that way there wouldnt be loads of extra comments everywhere, but relevant posts would move to the top of threads.
i also love the idea of being able to double post, but maybe with a time restriction (5 minutes?).
i dream of a more active subeta because of how much i used to love to forums and but i know with how much i used to post it would probably blow up to servers now
