I'm still having a difficult time deciding if I want to move into my parents' house for a couple of years. Both my brother and his GF told me that I would save a lot of money by doing that, which will allow me to get a better apartment in the future. She said I have to sacrifice things like my freedom, walking around naked, my peace and whatever else to be able to achieve what I need to. And it's only temporary.

Yet, I still sit here and go "Should I? I still don't like this apartment." "The cigarette smoke is really bad" "I see strange people at her apartment all the time and I'm starting to feel uncomfortable". My landlord said he's working on it, but he needs a lawyer now because she's refusing to leave and the apartment was signed by her daughter, because she's vouching for her and now there's a bunch of problems.

If anyone does tarot, please feel free to pull cards! I just don't want to be around my dad and my mom nitpicks and she'll be on my case all the time, but I can't go into another place because the funds are not there.

YOU have to live with changes in the future, not them.. Whichever path you choose, remember it can only get better and it It's up to you to get as much positive as possible from what is available to you..🍀

Thank you. I don't sublet. This building is non smoking and the units are non smoking. The lady in the basement has been smoking inside the apartment for over a year and we have shared forced air. So it comes through the vents. At times it's so bad, I can't breathe and it's hazy from cigarettes in ny apartment.i live on the second floor. If someone makes tuna something, I smell it coming through my vents 🤢

My parents are OK with me coming back, I just don't want to be controlled by them. It's only temporary. Rent is so expensive now, I just don't have the funds to move to a new apartment. My dad charged my brother $500 a month when my brother came back to live at home for a year. I'm a school bus driver. I barely make money, but it's a job and I like it.

- sorry to hear you are still struggling with this. How is your health? Are you still recovering from surgery? capper09 - had some great advice, "to follow what your gut is telling you". I can tell you are really torn about possibly moving back, maybe that's your gut telling you that's not the best solution for you.

It isn't, but this apartment isn't the solution for me either. My brother blocked all the vents and come winter, I'll have to remove them and the smell of heavy smoke will come wafting through. I also saw two men and a large dog at the basement apartment. I'm feeling a little unsafe because weird people keep going over.

I went to the clinic today.

I have inflammation of my stomach lining, which is why I'm so sore. It's from everything that happened to my body. The swelling from surgery is normal, and unfortunately, it'll take time to heal. and my pee showed an infection of some sort. So I'm on antibiotics for 5 days, and he's sending the urine to the lab to see what bacteria grows, if anything

it's a shame there is not a third option for you. The biggest thing is, you need to allow your body to heal. That needs to be your biggest priority right now.

Are the vents working correctly? I'm from Europe, so I don't know how stuff is supposed to work in the US. But here all the vents that I've seen are connected to a pump which pumps air to the outside, thereby creating an underpressure situation in the appartments themselves, causing fresh air from outside to more easily come in, thereby ventilating the appartment building. There should never be air coming out of them. Unless the building is super new and they have separate vents for in and out. But then it should pump fresh air from outside through one set of vents, and pump air away in another set of vents. To me it just sounds like the ventilation system is broken and is not pumping hard enough, thereby allowing air from other appartments to enter your appartment. Can do landlord do something about that?

I feel your pain. Before I bought the house I live in now, I had been living in the attic of a house for 7 years, where every floor was rented to somebody else. The house was advertised as non-smoking, but the guy below me did smoke. And since all hot air goes up, I'd come through my door at the stairs. It was horrible, everything stinks. Drying your laundry? Well, now everything stinks of cigarette smoke. Ofcourse I complained, but the dude said "I only smoke through the open window". The hell he did. Smokers think they're so stealthy, but we non-smokers can smell them from miles away.

I don't know anything about ventilation systems. The apartment was built in 1950. It was a house and then converted to apartments. I have two vents in the living room, two in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. The vent next to me (living room) is broken. Nothing comes out of it (cigarette smoke does) and the vent by the living room window, blows in air from outside. The one in the kitchen blows in heat so does the one in my bedroom and the other blows air from outside. However the ones that blow in heat and the vent that doesn't do anything, air comes out of them all the time. There's an old couple that live on the main floor (super sweet people) and she said they've been here 34 years and the vents have NEVER been cleaned. I complain to the landlord all the time. They were harassing me, saying the cigarette smoke is coming from outside, from the bar and if I don't like it, I should move (I live beside a bar. It's not attached to this house). They we're stupid. Then the slumlord finally goes into the apartment downstairs and now there's a problem. He said it reeks. Well.. can't say I didn't tell them.

All of my clothing smells like I'm a heavy smoker. My CPAP reeks of it as well. I'm actually embarrassed when I go out because not only does my clothing (and other items) smell like heavy cigarette smoke, but they also smell like the filth in her unit. My dad told me "You smell. You need to wash your clothes" and I said "In case you didn't notice, I come over every Saturday to wash my clothes. I can wash them daily and I'll still smell". My dad is an ahole.

P.S. The whole wing of this apartment (I'm on the second floor) is built on bricks, so the bricks are shifting and so are the stairs. Even the deck is build on bricks and the stairs are possibly open tile asbestos (according to the people on the main floor) and there's tons of it in the attic as well. They drilled into my apartment from the attic, so I wasn't happy about that.

I know. Whatever I decide, I know I'll survive. I've been through worse (I think you know some of my story).
