I mean, there's also always the option of just...not engaging with aspects of the site that make you uncomfortable. I have a few of those myself, and I just skip those bits of the site. Sometimes the simplest, most obvious option is the way to go.
I think Charity's dialogue is fine. I get wanting to change things that are offensive or cruel, but "makes one user uncomfortable" seems excessive to me. There are plenty of gross food items on here that make me gag, the "jumpscare" during Pete Says means I can't play that, other things as well. Those things aren't independently problematic or troublesome.
And I'll be weirdly sad if you also get rid of the Tempest bear hug text. She's perfect the way she is.
A couple folks have offered potential solutions; I was one of them, and I saw another user mention using adblock as well.
I didn't link those tools, but I'll do so here so folks can have them as an option. These are just for Firefox, not sure if Chrome offers the same given Google's war on adblock and similar tools:
FoxReplace - lets you define situations/phrases/etc. to replace to whatever you want. Perfect for this specific issue and others; I imagine it could also be used to replace the word "kiss" during Survival if someone wanted to.
uBlock Origin - blocks ads, but you can also customize it to block certain fields or images on a site. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I'm pretty sure this is what I use to block Cynthia's image, as well as a couple others so I don't have to scroll as much.
Thank you! I didn't want to add even more to my wall of text but I should definitely have pointed out and thanked the people who made actual contributions. And I doubly thank you for coming back and posting links, because I didn't realize you'd mentioned a couple different options in your first post and I had been trying to google things like "ublock change text string" and my initial searches hadn't come up with the right results. FoxReplace seems super useful for the internet in general.
No problem - I would've added the links in my first post, but was using a mobile device lol. FoxReplace is particularly good for avoiding all sorts of nastiness, indeed! I think something like it should come standard on browsers tbh.
is still belittling those with differing opinions:
I will be blocking them, & I wasn’t originally gonna say anything til they made that more recent remark. But I feel the continued passive aggressive targeting & purposeful misinterpretation of people’s words makes this an unwelcoming thread to post in.
I hope nobody is put off from expressing their opinions here; every contribution is valid even if it’s not the popular one <3
That said, just so there’s no ambiguity, I wasn’t accusing people of “having meltdowns” over this or not having emotional regulation skills or anything else that was said, and from what I saw nobody else used language like that either. Everyone who discussed emotional processing did so respectfully (as far as I saw) & many of us shared our own feelings from a place of vulnerability.
We all have things that we’re sensitive to, and I can guarantee we all have things on this website that make us uncomfortable, but that many others love. If we got rid of all of those things as a default solution, it would be a terribly dull game. It’s not condescension to point out that these things aren’t happening in the real world; it’s an objective statement that is helpful in so many situations, including the current discussion.
Charity hugs people because she loves them, same reason she feeds the people of Subeta. Tempest wraps you up like a warm rain on a summer day. Kissing during Survival is relevant to the history of the holiday as a sign of trust. These are all caring and loving gestures that add depth to the lore of the website. Not the same as a slur in a description, or an outdated depiction of a sensationalized disorder, or a racial stereotype in a plushie. I absolutely support the changing of things along those lines.
It’s not just you, I feel very unwelcomed simply for having a different opinion on the matter. Good that you let Angelina know cause I agree the passive aggressiveness is absolutely unnecessary. 🙄

I agree with this.
Its okay to personally dislike a certain NPC's dialogue, but that doesn't necessarily make the Subeta team obligated to change it.
I'm personally against over-sanitizing the site. If these were things that were actually hurtful or offensive, it would be a different story.
For example, I agree with the change to Nori and Mori's quests being renamed to "Duality" because "Cursed" kind of put people with DID in a negative light. I just don't think that mention of physical contact/affection warrants that kind of treatment.
I'm in no way trying to invalidate anyone's feelings though. Personally I get a bit uncomfortable with the sheer number of items that reference alcohol/drinking as a recovered alcoholic, but I've always been of the view that my triggers are my own responsibility.
Again not trying to make anyone feel bad or anything, those are just my thoughts on the subject.
Admin: "Stay on the original topic and don't target other users for varying opinions." Legit members on this thread: "Yeah, I'm gonna pretend I didn't see that."

I don’t think it would make sense to change the red rreign or survival kissing but I’m glad that is looking into rewording Charity, because it does make a lot more sense that she wouldn’t have time for all those hugs.
Since there are still some who are addressing posters and not keeping discussion on the topic at hand, I will be locking this thread. Please also keep in mind that if you see issues on the forums, please fill out a support ticket to notify staff of issues instead of pinging individual staff members so staff can take care of issues sooner.
